I forgot to bring a basket.

I think it was supposed to rain all afternoon but so far I think the worst we’ve had is some light drizzling πŸ™‚ Well the weekend is young so there’s plenty of time for that rain to start falling. I just took a look at those weather sites and they’ve decided that the rain most likely won’t arrive until tomorrow night and it will continue in to Sunday morning. We’re having the election for a new parliament on Sunday so I wouldn’t be surprised if the rain will pour down then πŸ™‚

Doris the badger.

It looks like it will be a very even result again. Last time the right won with the support of our fascist party (the right side has two more totes in the parliament than the left side has), this time it does look like the other side might win. If the right side win the fascists will become part of the government and I really don’t like that but they aren’t cooperating especially well at the moment. The left side isn’t cooperating at all so it will be pretty tricky to form a government if they do win. We’ll all know better on late Sunday or early Monday who got the most votes.

The dogs and I walked down to the creek today. Not many flies hanging around, the ones that were seems to have stayed by the road when an animal had crossed it. I didn’t see anything but the dogs were excited at a few places, I guess they could smell that an animal just has passed, and that was also where the few flies flew around. I could see lots of mushrooms though, some edible but others most certainly were not πŸ™‚

The puffball are showing up now as well. I always laugh a little when I see them because one could say much about my mother but she wasn’t an especially good cook πŸ™‚ She did however like to fry puffballs, they are edible as long as they are small and white. The odd thing is that she always said they tasted like bacon?! I could never feel it but then again she was a heavy smoker for a big part of her life so I guessed her taste buds had given up πŸ™‚ But then she claimed that lots of other things tasted just like bacon and some things just didn’t make sense, like fish for instance. Turned out that she always saved the fat when she fried bacon and then used it to anything else she wanted to fry πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Well it did at least make her eat things she never liked before πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I was supposed to bring a basket to pick mushrooms on our walk today but I didn’t remember it until I felt that it was too late to go back and fetch it. I hope I’ll remember it tomorrow instead. I also hope I can find the basket but I can bring something else like a cooler bag or something.

It is time for that last cup of tea for the day and I bought a packet with Digestives today and a Brie, that’s a nice combination πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

  1. Your red-topped mushrooms with the white speckles are interesting because they’re flat. The ones in my yard have domed tops. They look just like the mushroom emoji.

A big branch fell across my next door neighbor’s fence and landed mostly in my yard. May have been struck by lightning during a storm the other night, but it looked like it had been dead already because the leaves are all brown.

Around here, some people think if their tree falls in your yard, it’s your problem, not theirs. That may even be the law. So, I went next door and told them my yard guy just told me he’s retiring (just when my yard needs mowing) and I don’t have anybody to deal with the branch at the moment. But if they would cut it up, they could throw it on my leave pile right next to where it fell, so it doesn’t have to be hauled anywhere.

The guy called me a few hours later and told me he’d taken care of it! That was so nice of him. I had said no rush because it’s super-hot and steamy outside, but he said it was no big deal. I didn’t even hear his chainsaw.

I had to laugh at your mother cooking everything in bacon grease. If you cook eggs and bacon in the same pan, the eggs will taste like bacon. So, I guess bland things like fish and mushrooms would really soak up the bacon flavor.

    1. Hi catsworking!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen that when it comes to our toadstools but I guess we have the same species but one is a subspecies or perhaps both and then they can look a bit different. I’ll see if I can find anything about that πŸ™‚

Not so here unless we both agree I can fix the problem myself. The neighbours I have however would try and fix things before I even noticed it πŸ™‚ But if his trees fall on my cottage it will be my home insurance that would have to deal with it. It is great that Your neighbour took care of it and so quickly as well!

My mother hated cooking and usually really didn’t care about how things tasted, that’s why I learned to cook when I was around 11 πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I realised that food actually could taste really good even outside my grandmothers home πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I was a bit surprised though that she didn’t have a clue to why everything she ate tasted like bacon πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

      1. If the big branch had fallen on my house and damaged it, it would have been my home insurance to pay for the fix. But if it’s just a tree that falls and no real damage is done, then it seems the person where it lands has to deal with it, not the person who owned the tree.

I have this problem with the neighbor on my
other side, who only rents the house. There’s a tree that’s been dead between our houses (on his side) that could fall and take out my car. It would be my insurance to cover the damage even though the homeowner (slum lord I call him) is the one at fault for failing to take down his dead tree. I suppose I could sue him, but the only ones to come out ahead in that would be the lawyers. Sometimes the law stinks.

      2. I suppose the person who ends up with the tree and has to pay to have it removed could sue the tree’s owner in small claims court, but I don’t know if they would win.
