I would have loved to sleep a little bit longer today but I woke up at 4 am and since the dogs noticed I had very little choice than to get up, go outside and check if Doris the badger was in the or not before I could let the dogs outside. Also, the Monster is now used to me opening the door in the very early morning so as soon as I do so she runs indoors to eat her breakfast 🙂

There’s really nothing much one can do at those hours, especially since I only have the free tv channels and they don’t start until just after 5 am, so I started to bake some French rolls and the cottage smelled rather wonderful when they were done 🙂 So I had one as breakfast and after that we had our morning walk. We walked down to the creek and followed it up stream for a while before we turned towards home again.

I could hear both geese and cranes when they flew southwards when we walked in the forest but I couldn’t see them. Otherwise it was rather quiet this morning. No bird sings, just some tweeting from birds that will stay here over winter. The long drought has made it hard for the birds to find food already now, I even have really shy birds eating the rowan berries in my garden already now. I was going to either make some rowanberry jam or rowan ade but since the birds already are here eating them I better leave the berries to them. They will most likely have eaten them all long before the berries are ready to be picked anyway, the berries need two times with frost so they just becomes tart and not be super tart 🙂 🙂

Normally we have the first night with frost around September sixth but so far we haven’t even been close to that, and that I like 🙂 As soon as we had come home from our morning walk I picked almost all ripe tomatoes and tossed them in the slow cooker to make tomato sauce. I have a few small ones left so I can have them for dinner or sliced on a French roll for breakfast. After that I was supposed to do some laundry but since the sun shone, which it shouldn’t according to all the weather sites, we instead went out for another walk to pick mushrooms.

I remembered that the basket is long gone, I think it was Malkolm who decided it would be a good chew toy 🙂 Instead I had this cooling bag I got from the coffin factory last summer. Unfortunately it’s big so it allowed me to pick so many more mushrooms than I really needed 🙂 🙂 🙂 I mean it is fun to find loads of fine mushrooms, most were untouched by different larvae like they usually are, so the bag was so heavy that my shoulder, from where the bag was hanging, ached when we came back home 🙂 🙂 It is however not fun to clean it all and after that fry away all the water so I can put it in plastic bags in the freezer. I saved the liquid that still was in a bag as well, works great when wanting to make a sauce but don’t want a lot of mushrooms in the food 🙂

It is time for that last cup of tea for the day. I’m so tired now that I’m pretty sure that not even an entire pot with tea would keep me awake 🙂

Have a great day!
