Nothing much has happened this week, well one thing but I tell You about that next week. The weather is a bit cooler and we’ve had some rain falling as well π It poured down in the village with the pool and in FalkΓΆping and I thought my water barrels would be filled with new water. Turns out we had almost no rain here. The gravel road was dry and no more water in the barrels.

Well I have to look at the positive side, the slugs and snails have problems this year π It has been too dry for them so we’ve had barely any at all. Rain now would most likely just help them enough to get a good new start next spring π Also almost no mosquitoes is nice. So now I’m hoping this drought have killed lots of moose flies as well π

Lots and lots of tomatoes are just about to be ripe so now I better find a recipe for tomato sauce. I guess it is enough with tomatoes, basil and salt/ pepper to be honest because that works for anything. I had red that beefsteak tomatoes needed a long time to ripen but to be honest they are much quicker to do so than any of the smaller ones I have π π I have loads of small ones that seems to refuse to turn red and I know these should be red. I think it is a Polish variety and it is supposed to become dark red. Well there’s still time since they grow in the greenhouse, I do have another growing outside the greenhouse, a small one, that gives ripe tomatoes almost every day though.

It is time for that last cup of tea for the day. I think I’ll have a couple of hard breads at the same time. I’m thinking blue cheese, tomato slices, perhaps a meatball or two and a hard cheese on the top π

Have a great day!
High temperatures suppress anthocyanines and allow the dominant yellow color to predominate. Sort of like the reverse of autumn when the chlorophyll goes away and the reds, yellows, and oranges come out. Also, if the plants are open pollinated in fields, the other colors and fun shapes can be lost to the dominant yellow. i don’t know how commercial growers manage that.
Same lack of serious rain here. I got my jeep inspected today which meant pulling all the cushioning Piki has so he won’t fall in the well behind the front seats out of the back seat so they could inspect the rear seat belts. I left all that stuff in driveway until I felt like rearranging itl. I went out right before it started to rain and got it all back together. And the rain stopped. 5 minutes of not very enthusiastic dripping.

Hi Caryn!
I didn’t know that, Tricky to keep them cool long enough and still have them growing though π
The commercial companies must have big distance between the varieties I guess but mostly I think they only use cuttings now days. Getting new varieties is more tricky but I guess they’ll just hand pollinate them and keep a paper bag over the flowers so pollinators doesn’t stand a chance.I always have to vacuum the back seat in my car before the inspection π
Alma sometimes have a serious case of shedding and her fur sticks like needles in a cushion π π π We’ve had a little more rain but not really noticeable in the water barrels π

When I make tomato sauce from scratch, I put in basil, chopped garlic (or just garlic powder), chopped onions, oregano, and salt and pepper. If I have some bell peppers, I’ll throw those in as well, chopped fine like the onions. It makes for a slightly chunky sauce with the extra vegetables. I’m half Italian, and that’s how all the women in my family made it. I like it a bit spicy.

Hi catsworking!
That sounds like I would like it. No garlic in the vegetable garden though, well there might be but everything is covered by the spaghetti pumpkin vines and squash vines π I do have lots of leek though, I think I’ll put some of that in it. Lots of small purple bell peppers now so I’ll use those as well π I’ll start with making a small batch and see how it goes π
Yes chunky sauce is the best π

Garlic is optional because itβs strong. Leeks would work fine, and any kind of pepper, depending on how spicy you like it.

I really like garlic but I rarely buy any.
Spiciness depends on if I’ll have it for work dinners or I’ll use it on weekends π I do tend to be gassy when I make it really strong π π π

Another way to spice it up if you want is to add some red pepper flakes right before you eat a meal so the whole batch isnβt spicy.
I have a huge jar of them and canβt remember what I was ever doing with them that I thought I needed so many. I think I must have been sprinkling them on popcorn!

Yes I like the one that we can buy here, just enough hot π
Never thought of having them on popcorn though π
