No walks in the forest today, hunters are still out there despite heavy showers (that arrived earlier than they had predicted) and of course because iff the rain. Alma’s paw is slightly better today and she is mostly leaving the bandage alone. It’s not really a cut but it looks like she sort of shaved off the outer layer on her pad. Turns out that the blood I found on the floor wasn’t from the paw, she’s in heat again. One never knows when that will start, could be any time between 5 and 8 months.

So I’m not working at the carpenter factory any more and I was quite surprised to hear that. They hired me via a staffing agency and hasn’t gotten any complaints about my job. They claimed that I hadn’t lived up to their expectations in how fast I would develop towards a wood spray painter. The thing is that three out of five weeks I worked with other things, like sand surfaces and help with moving materials from the robot painter line. I only started to paint the last two weeks. Also they had at least four different techniques on painting the surfaces and I painted two of those during that time. I wasn’t, of course, not allowed to start painting an order that still was missing some of the materials and those were the ones I could paint mostly π π I was talking to the responsible person when suddenly he said, do You know how much money it costs to hire someone from a staffing agency? So I guess that was the main reason. What I really liked to hear on my last day just before leaving was that the last things I painted was spotless π π

So no late shift this week π There is however another business that wants spray painters, and we aren’t that many hanging around, so they will suggest me as the new one for them. So hold Your thumbs and cross Your fingers for good luck π In that job I would only spray paint on metal which is what I’ve been doing for most of my working life. It’ll take a few days or perhaps longer before I get an answer if they are interested so now I’ll just relax, spend time with the dogs and wish for dryer and sunnier weather π

To be honest, all I’ve done today, besides one load of laundry, is to relax π The weather has stopped us from being outside for more than a few minutes at a time. I put a plastic bag around Alma’s paw and put two strips of duct tape (we call it silver tape because that’s the most common colour on them π )as a kind of sole and it holds together really well. So I think, if the weather permits, we’ll be able to have a short walk out to the bog tomorrow morning. I need to go to the grocery store tomorrow, I only have tea enough left for one more pot, so I’m sitting with the last cup of tea for the day right now. I made rice porridge this morning, the weather mad it feel very right to do that π I have some left and I’ll have that either before going to bed or as breakfast tomorrow morning π

Have a great day!
I’m sorry that you’re unemployed again, I hope the other job is going to be yours ! Fingers crossed !
For now, enjoy your free time and stay away from hunters.

Hi Poppy!
Thank You!
I was mostly surprised since no one complained about anything. So my guess is that they just can’t afford to hire me but won’t admit that’s the reason.
So Lets hope this other job comes to me π

I hope the new job doesn’t involve any shift work.
How is Sweden on hiring older workers? We have a huge credit card company that started in Virginia called Capital One. It was THE place to work. I had several friends there and thought it was wonderful, but as soon as they hit 50, out the door they went. One was just laid off with no reason except “reduction in staff,” but the other had a slow departure. After getting only great performance reviews her whole career, suddenly she wasn’t meeting expectations and having problems working with others, they said. Once they had built up enough reasons, they let her go.
I just wonder if your termination wasn’t a combination of the company not wanting to pay the staffing fee, coupled with your age and them thinking they wouldn’t get enough years of work out of you to justify the expense.
Capitol One had a class action (meaning many people joined in to sue) filed against it for age discrimination. It was settled but no one could talk about it afterward, so I don’t know the outcome. I guess Capitol One lost and had to pay a lot of money or they would be bragging about what a fair employer they are.
