Almost as nice today :-)

The weather has been nice today but not as nice as yesterday. Mostly because the clouds stayed for much longer this morning than they did yesterday morning and we’ve had some wind and three drops of rain. All in all though it has been one of the nicer days this summer 🙂

We walked out to the bog on our morning walk and even out there not a single fly annoyed us 🙂 I was prepared that we might encounter her moose flies but if there were any they never flew to us. The hunters had trimmed away most of the grass on the paths so even the risk of ticks attaching to us was minimal. Still a few did but they were easily removed. I couldn’t see any bigger or, besides a few birds, animals but I did hear a squirrel smack with discontent when we passed the pine it was hiding at.

The villager that has the filter for my drinking water called yesterday telling me that he would clean a filter and that I shouldn’t try to turn on the tap water for half an hour. So the first thing I did was to try and rinse my tea cup 🙂 🙂 🙂 Nothing happened at either end but still I do wonder what’s going on in my brain 🙂 🙂 🙂 My water pipe is really long but when ever that filter is cleaned and the water flows with more strength it then also brings what ever more is in that pipe (usually very fine silt. Silt is finer than sand but slightly bigger than clay). So today I watered everything in the garden so most of that silt is washed out. Still there will be periods when more comes but soon it’ll be just as fine as before.

I was supposed to mow the lawn both yesterday and today but yesterday I drove my neighbour to the wedding instead and today I just didn’t have the energy. Instead I did two loads of laundry, baked bread and that watering in the garden. I’ve also repotted some pelargoniums with fragrant leafs and some of my citrus trees. Mostly however I’ve just relaxed, drinking lots of tea and also had some digestives with blue cheese 🙂 The nice weather dried up the laundry really quick 🙂 The coming week will be warmer again they say, up to 25C (77F) and we’ll have very few clouds. On Friday and through the weekend we’ll have lots of rain but weather forecasts change every minute so it might just be the other way round 🙂

It is time for that last cup of tea and I think I might have an ice cream as well, the ice cream lorry stopped here on Friday 🙂

Have a great day!

  1. The filter thing is annoying. Our town periodically flushes the water lines. They tell us ahead of time when they’re doing our section because rust can come out of the faucets. They say it’s rust anyway

It has been cloudy and cool for a couple of days. I think many of us are tired of sunny, dry, and warm. It did rain today for about a half hour. It was a medium weight rain, too. Not hard enough to run off fast but enough to do some good work. Then the sun came out for a few hours.

I learned a couple of things I did not know this week. There are large patches of Common Ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) growing all around my neighborhood. While walking Piki Monday morning I noticed many native bees working the patches. I always thought the green bumpy things on the stalks were unripe seeds so I wondered why the bees were even there. Turns out the green bumpy things are the male flowers. The bees were gathering pollen because ragweed has a lot of it and there isn’t much else this late in the season. The second thing I learned was that I have American Burnweed (Erechtites hieraciifolius) in my yard. I told someone I had never seen that plant before. But I checked my Audubon Guide to Wildflowers and saw that I had noted it twice in my yard. I even had photos. What I had never seen was American Burnweed that was 6 feet tall and covered in white fluff. I have no excuse for missing it because it was growing right behind my jeep. I must have been too worried about passing vehicle inspection to notice.:D The jeep passed. Yay.

    1. Hi Caryn!

Yes they always say it’s rust 🙂 🙂 Here however I know it isn’t since I have some kind of plastic tube all the way.

Summer is back but it’ll be cooler again during the weekend. Some forecasts say loads of rain the entire weekend some say less. I hope it will be loads because the little rain we had didn’t help much.

We’ve found ragweed here as well. Comes with the seeds we feed the birds and it is said it is one of the worts pollens there is for allergic people. Still all that pollen do help the bees so it’s good in that way.
We have something looking similar to Your Burned, it shows up in places where they’ve just cut down the forest and vanishes after a couple of years. Ours are much smaller though

Congratulations for the car passing the inspection 🙂

  2. Hi Christer,

I am always glad to read your blog posts, though WordPress has not been working well for me on your blog. I can read your blog entries successfully, but WordPress does not register my LIKES when I like yours readers’ posts and today it wouldn’t let me LIKE your latest blog posts unless i logged into WordPress. At least after successfully logging in to WordPress I could successfully LIKE your blog posts but still WordPress won’t let me LIKE your readers’ posted comments.

I do read your BlueSky posts and seem able to LIKE your latest blog posts there and successfully LIKE your readers’ comments there too. 🙂

    1. Hi Denali Sam!

The odd thing is that I can see Your likes here in the dashboard 🙂

Yes they are cranky about that, must be logged in but I really can’t understand why. It’s the same when I want to like someone else’s post. I’m not logged in on my phone so I can’t do it there and I never remember to do it when I come home but like You I like the Bluesky post 🙂
It was so much simpler before!
