Finally rain :-)

We didn’t get especially much rain during last night but what difference it made to the vegetation! Everything looked alive and that wasn’t the case yesterday. I must admit that I still felt a bit disappointed but it is what it is. We woke up around 3 am today and normally I would just have stayed up after the dogs had been outside but today I went back to bed and slept for two more hours.

The sun was shining when we went out on our morning walk, it wasn’t as cool as I had hoped for but still cool enough to make the walk pretty nice. We didn’t see a single animal besides a few birds but I could see that the Monster was a bit unhappy at a few places so I guess we walked close to wild hogs. I think she thought it was way too warm and she had trouble keeping up with us, so for the first time I was allowed to carry her for short distances.

We had barely come back inside the cottage when the thunder arrived. I hadn’t heard a single sound from it before so I was rather surprise when the lightning hit just outside the village. I was looking at the radar images on how big the showers would be but the worst ones never reached us. I’ve learned that bogs as big as the one I live beside makes their own high pressure areas when there’s a heat wave so as soon as heavy showers came close they suddenly changed direction and instead of passing over the bog they went to either side of it instead.

Perhaps best because instead we’ve had gentle showers that had the chance of sinking down in the ground instead of just running down to the bog that starts behind my garage. It is actually raining right now and this time it’s pouring down 🙂 I hope it will fill up my water barrels and also sink down in to the ground so much that I won’t have to think about watering anything for a while 🙂

We haven’t done much besides the morning walk today, mostly we have been sleeping. The heat had taken so much energy from us that sleep was the only thing we managed to do. So I was sleeping in the recliner, the dogs in one of the sofas and the Monster in the other 🙂 🙂 The village was very quiet this week, it was so hot that no one was outside at all. Today however, between showers I finally could hear children playing again 🙂 It only went quiet again when thunder closed in on us again 🙂

It is time for that last cup of tea for the day. Normally I would most likely have had something to eat as well but the heatwave managed to stop making me hungry or even peckish 🙂 Tomorrow it’ll be 13C (55,4F) as warmest they say and since it’ll be only for one day I think I’ll enjoy it 🙂

Have a great day!

A storm came yesterday afternoon while I was at the memory care. The wind whipped the trees and it poured. I stayed until it passed, which it did pretty quickly.

Out in the parking lot, I phoned for Chinese takeout from a little place about a mile from my house for an easy dinner. As I drove toward home, I saw lightning ahead.

When I got to China Taste, the storm had been there and they’d lost power. They were still cooking, but their computer was down and they couldn’t take credit cards, so several people were standing around trying to figure out how to pay. Luckily, I had cash in my wallet that’s been there so long, I didn’t know how much I had, but it was enough. I usually pay by credit card for everything myself.

As I drove that last mile home, I got more worried and hoped the storm hadn’t freaked out the cats home alone. The first street I turned into near my house was a mess, absolutely covered with leaves and branches. I expected to have no electricity, but by some miracle, everything was running and my trees hadn’t even made a mess in the yard, and the cats didn’t seem fazed.

The good thing is that the rain did wash away the Canada smoke, but now they say it will probably keep coming back until the fall. We’re supposed to get similar storms today, too, and we need them. The governor just asked everybody to conserve water because we’re in a drought.

If the smoke is ever bad enough that I can finally smell it, I would wear a COVID mask to go outside. Good idea!
