Lots of rain but still not enough.

They day started nice enough and since I really want the rain I shouldn’t complain about all the rain that fell for the rest of the day 🙂 However cleaning a pool when it rains is a bit more tricky than one might think, the surface becomes impossible to see through so one really doesn’t know if the pool is clean or not 🙂 🙂 Only two more days before the summer vacation starts for the kids, after that the pool will be open for the public.

I thought the spider had dropped down in to the water barrel but it has no problems what so ever to climb up on the inside. One of our bigger spiders and harmless to humans.

I’ve never seen such a red beetle before.

The weather has stopped us from doing anything to be honest, the showers were so hard that it was difficult to see the road when I was out driving, it did feel like thunder showers but from what I could see or hear I don’t think thunder was even close to us. The rest of the week will also be rather rainy and I like that. Next week they’re guessing will be sunny and warm though.

This is called Litchie tomato, full od sharp needles.

There’s only one negative thing with this, so far it has been so dry that I’ve only seen one slug. That was a slug that eat other small slugs and their eggs so I like that one. However now the population with all kinds of slugs will most likely explode so I can only hope they won’t eat everything I’ve planted, like my broccoli, tomato plants and carrots. I do hope they don’t like garlic though but they do seem to like smelly plants so that might be a hope in vain.

Two jacaranda seedlings. They grow fast so by the end of summer they’ll be pretty big.

It is time for that last cup of tea for the day and after that I better go outside and close the greenhouse for the night. Tomorrow we’ll get the new robot for cleaning the pool floor. It will help a lot because then it doesn’t matter if I can see the bottom of the pool or not 🙂

Gooseberries, these will turn red when ripe.

Hi Christer! Everything that you have growing looks very happy.

The trick we use here for slugs in the garden is putting beer in a container, such as a flat pan or pie pan, and putting these all around the garden. The slugs are drawn to the yeast in the beer and drown while eating it. Here’s a website with good slug information and how to make beer traps. They also have a non-alcoholic slug bait recipe, in case you worry about the dogs slurping up the beer.

  We have those traps here too and from what I know they work pretty good, however the flu I fear most is the Spanish slug, or as we call it “The Murder Slug” 🙂 They have no predators here and become so many that those traps aren’t enough no matter how many one get in them. In some places it’s so bad that they kill over 500 a day and they still can’t see any difference!
  
  I think I saw a couple on the gravel road last year but I’m hoping that it just was the red slug that is so much easer to handle.
