Warm days and cold nights.

A little Robin was kind enough to sit still long enough in the sunshine for me to get a photo of it.

I must admit that I didn’t think it was as cold as it was when I followed the dogs outside when we had woken up, -6C (21,2F). I guess that there was no wind what so ever helped to fool me. But we had sunshine all day and got was pretty warm for this time of the year so I can’t complain too much, I do complain but it would have been worse if the wind had blown all day as well 🙂 🙂 🙂

I have only stayed outside for shorter period of times though, plenty of shorter periods because today the pollen has hit me hard. My nose has been running and I’ve sneezed more times than I care for 🙂 My eyes itch on and off as well and that’s really annoying. Normally I only react this bad when there’s lots of either Birch pollen or Pine pollen but none of them have started yet, I guess that lots of pollen has come with the winds from the continent and that’s why I have these problems at the moment.

There isn’t much one can do in the garden at the moment just because the nights still are so cold. I really would have liked to bring out the tomato and bell pepper plants now so I could have more space to sow new things 🙂 We’ll have one or two nights with above 0C (32F) temperatures and then we’ll have a couple of rather cold nights again. Ok we’ll have sunshine all the time though so I guess I can’t complain especially much about that either 🙂 🙂 🙂

Lots of deer out in the fields now and I noticed that three cranes must have been in the field just outside my cottage because they flew just above the cottage roof when they saw us. I hear them in the evenings now but still haven’t come close enough to get a photo of them. We had fewer cranes by the lake this time, lots died this winter from bird flu down in Europe. Not only cranes but loads of other birds as well. Here they nest and stays by themselves almost all summer but during winter they gather in much bigger groups and if one get the flu most of the others will get it as well. They noticed that lots more cranes danced this time, mostly because lots lost their partners this winter.

Tomorrow I’ll visit the town Vara, I’ll have to leave some blood before the x-ray I’ll take of my kidney on Monday. I always used to have a hamburger and fries every time I was in Vara before we realised I couldn’t eat gluten but I think I’ll ask if they have gluten free bread because I haven’t had anything unhealthy to eat in a long time now 🙂 I don’t know why but it’s just not the same without that bread, I mean it doesn’t taste anything to be honest but is a good filler I guess 🙂 🙂 🙂

It wasn’t happy when I brought it out in the rain two days ago 🙂

This male Yellowhammer was even more kind to sit still long enough in the rain to let me take a few photos 🙂

It is time for that last cup of tea for the day and I’ll also have a sandwich or two with that ham I bought plus a couple of slices of cheese, can’t have a sandwich without cheese 🙂

Have a great day!

The trees here are all filled out already because it’s been so hot in Virginia. One skinny tree off my deck kept a lot of its brown leaves all winter and I was afraid it was dying, but now those same branches are full of new leaves, so I guess it’s OK.

We are having a drought, though little sprinkles are predicted this afternoon and the next few days. I’ll watch those patches of crunchy blue-green stuff to see if it turns back into moss once it gets soaked. And I hope it’s enough rain to wash the pollen off the cars. They’re yellow. And now the oak trees are dropping long strings of seeds that make a huge mess and get into every crack. I’ll have to clean all the crevices around the car trunks and doors with a toothbrush when that’s done. Next, comes the sap to make the cars sticky. Then the trees FINALLY settle down so I can wash the cars. I really wish I had a garage!

The pollen’s so bad, I can’t walk to the mailbox without sneezing and runny eyes. I hadn’t had a runny nose, but I’m stuffy when I first wake up.

      Hi catsworking!

Some trees just do like that and doesn’t affect the tree at all, over here oaks usually do that when they are young but stops as they get older. I think it has something to do with protecting the new buds during winters.

Thankfully not that much pollen here but the birches and pines haven’t started yet. I do hope this will be a good year with less pollen 🙂 🙂 We are far behind You yet though but we’ll soon catch up with all those problems 🙂 🙂

Today was a good day, almost no sneezing , no runny nose but itching eyes instead 🙂 🙂

Spring is slow getting started here. Can’t do anything out in the yard except maybe rake things up and I don’t do that until the end of May anyway. I want fireflies and other insects and they are under all the leaves. So I leave the leaves where they are. There are bumble bees and carpenter bees flying around though there’s only chionadoxa and skunk cabbages flowering in my yard. At least the skunk cabbage flowers give them pollen and a warm spot to sleep. It’s been very cold and damp. The weather person said it is more like mid March than late April.

      Hi Caryn!

Spring does behave odd this year, very early here but with cold nights almost every night, my neighbour have had to scrape ice from the car every morning this week 🙂 🙂
I have plenty to do in the garden since they now decided that Rosa rugosa is an invasive species. It is still allowed in gardens but must be removed elsewhere. Those roots are tough to dig up.
Lots of bumblebees flying around and butterflies as well and I’ve had the first fly in my kitchen 🙂 🙂
Above average temperature here and they’re warning us of very low groundwater levels. No rain in sight though so they’ll be even lower as soon as the real warm weather arrives.

There is no Spring in NH, Christer, only more continued cool and now rainy weather. last week, we took a riverboat cruise on the Mississippi River and had delightful sunny days with temps in the mid to upper 70 degrees (F). I thought the yellowhammer head bird was very nice to pose for you and the raindrops on the branches were a perfect backdrop too.

      Hi Beatrice!

You can keep the cool weather but the rain would be welcome here 🙂 🙂 🙂 Spring behaves very odd this year, early here but late over at Yours and You do live so much further south than I do!
I’ve always wanted to river boat cruise on the Mississippi River! I bet it was really good!

The Yellowhammer is so beautiful and I saw lots of them this morning 🙂
