Snowy day.

It has been snowing here all day but it barely shows on the ground. I’m not happy about it but I feel I really can’t complain about it since there are places in the US that will have it so much worse. According to the weather sites the temperatures will stay as they are now for at least ten days and sometimes we’ll get snow and sometimes sunshine. Almost no wind here now but it’ll come back next Wednesday till Friday they’re guessing.

Today was nice though, despite the snow falling. Almost no wind but I chose to walk in the forest and out to the bog anyway. We could hear animals moving away from us but I never saw any. I wouldn’t say that Malkolm is especially bothered by the cone but I can see the difference in mood when we go out for a walk and he doesn’t need to wear it. I’ve had to calm both him and Alma down because they play a bit rough in the garden and I can see they think I’m sooo boring πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Nothing much has happened here, the only thing I’ve done is to put some pork chops in the oven, boil a few potatoes and made a mushroom sauce, I have to say the sauce was the best of it all πŸ™‚ :-)I had bought a big pack of chops so I’ll need to put some of them back in the freezer. Β A neighbour, well his mother is still a neighbour even though he has moved away, texted me yesterday evening and gave me 3-4 cubic meters of fire wood if I wanted. His mother doesn’t use firewood any more and he had more than enough where he lives now, so it’s time to make some space in the wood shed. No panic though because I can bring it home when I want. The space making can start now but I can bring home the fire wood when it gets warmer again. I’ll use my big wheel barrow (two wheeled) when it is time.

I think I’ll start with the sowing of Tamarillo seeds tomorrow. I really like that fruit and used to grow it when I lived in an apartment in Gothenburg. The plant itself smells like come and help me to die (Swedish expression πŸ™‚ ) but the fruits are delicious. I’ll also need to see what tomato seeds I’ll sow, I think I mostly will skip the vines varieties and instead go for the ones growing like a bush and perhaps have a few in the ground instead of in the green house but I will of course have a few vines too in the green house. I do hope we’ll have an early and warm spring this year otherwise I’ll be in trouble πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It is time for that last cup of tea and after that falling asleep in the recliner πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

  1. The Monster looks very fine in the snow. The weather here is finally starting to be cold, as winter should be! I took Monty for a walk in the little park bybthe grade school. It is usually pretty muddy, but today everything was frozen hard and the frost on the grass never melted.

We mmay get snow this next precipitation spell!

I bbrought home a bin of bags to cover apples ( we have a lot of coddling worm) from the community garden. I’m supposed to wash them for reuse. My reward will be free apples, first pick, so that’s a good trade.

    Cheers

    1. Hi Carol!

She does but she’s not too happy about the snow and cold weather, she stays outside for short moments and that’s it πŸ™‚

That’s one of the very few things that’s good about cold weather, very little dirt indoors after being outside walking πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
We’ve had snow falling for two days but that’s hard to see when looking around, we might have gotten 2/5ths of snow on the ground.

Free apples is never wrong πŸ™‚ We have a worm that usually goes on Rowan berries but if we have few of those they turn to apples instead. We’ve had very few rowan berries these last two years so I thought we would have loads of apples being eaten by them but this year we also had a bad apple year and those apples we did get were worm free!

  2. Live report of the blizzard they have been terrifying Virginia with all week.

We got maybe 1″, 2″ tops, of snow. They say it’s because of low humidity, the snowflakes are more like pellets and pack down to nothing.

The lack of snow ruins my plan to bury the contents of my freezer and fridge in snow if the power goes out.

It is only about 20F, so very cold, and I guess I could just put the food outside and it would be even colder than the freezer.

Sleet is coming down now. They expect freezing rain to start in about 2 hours around noon and last until midnight. That will be what knocks out the electricity, if it happens.

But no snow stuck to the trees and power lines, which they say is good, because rain freezing on top of that would have gotten heavier and brought trees down sooner. Now we just have to see how the trees hold up under freezing rain.

I filled the bathtub with water, just in case pipes freeze. The cats didn’t know what to make of the new swimming pool, because I always take showers. I don’t think they’ve ever seen the tub full before. But it has doors I can close so nobody falls in. The last thing I need is a cold wet cat screaming through the house.

    I don’t think there’s any wind.

I know this is like every day in winter Sweden, but in the South, it’s considered a catastrophic event.

    1. Hi catsworking!

So solar not too bad then and I do hope it stays that way. We thankfully rarely have freezing rain, happens perhaps once a year as most but usually not at all. Nasty when it does happen though!
Let’s hope the sleet isn’t that bad!
I have a friend who has big problems with freezing pipes every winter but I’ve been lucky because they insulated all water pipes even indoors when they renovated this place many years ago. I do hope Your pipes doesn’t freeze because if they also burst the problem becomes huge.
I’m pretty sure that if anyone here would fall in to a bathtub full of water it would be the monster, the dogs avoids bodies of water as much as they can!

I do hope everything goes well for You!
