A nasty biting wind.

The day started rather nice even though it was -6C (21,2F) but there was no wind so it didn’t feel that bad when I let the dogs out after we’d woken up. The sun rose and it felt even better until the wind started to blow. A bitter cold wind that made its way in to the bones in my body.

Today the wind blew from north-east and it’s the only time it actually reach my cottage and garden (well it reaches from east as well). We were mostly in the forest while having our walks so in there it was quite a lot better. Still not an animal moved and not birds made any sound, not even the Jays.

So we’ve done very little today just because of the wind. The most exiting thing I did was to make pancakes πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Also I ate the last of the christmas food and that’s always a relief to be honest. Holiday food is always great the first two days but after that it’s just annoying to have to continue eating it πŸ™‚

No mice in the box trap today so perhaps I’ve now thinned most of them out πŸ™‚ I will not shout hi before I crossed the creek though (old Swedish saying). It might just be that they now learned that no matter how tasty coconut flakes are it still isn’t worth trying to reach them πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It is time for that last cup of tea for the day. I think I’ll read a book or perhaps surf the net. To be honest, how often do You get out on the internet without having something already planned? I rarely do because no matter how much info there is about frogs in Africa or monkeys in Asia or what ever I rarely just go out and search for anything unless I really need to know about something special. I could do like that back in the days we had dictionaries, just open a book and read the first subject on a random page and then just keep on following references in that text πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ It was actually quite fun and I did learn a lot by doing so πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

  1. Hi Christer, I hope that you had a nice Yule and in looking at some of your photos from last week it seems you also had a white Christmas. That snow disappeared quickly it seems in reading the posts from this week. We also had snow on the ground from a light snowfall a few days before Christmas in Nashua, NH. Yesterday was an all day rain so now there is less snow for New Year’s.

Like yourself, we were also at home for both holidays since we had an extended family visit in November for Thanksgiving. We have invited a few neighbors to our apt later today to celebrate with wine, cheese and conversation. It is nice that the neighbors live here in the mill apts, so no one has to drive. Patrick and myself send you our good wishes for a Happy 2026.

    1. Hi Beatrice!

I found Your comment in the spam, good thing I look there some times πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
Yes we did have a white christmas and for me that was enough, unfortunately the new year will start white because we’ll get plenty of it if they’ve guessed it right.

I wish You both a good ending of this year and a good new year!

  2. Funny you mention Christmas leftovers getting tiresome.

Christmas Day I made a store-bought Stouffer’s lasagna, family-size, which turned out to be as tasty as lasagna I would make myself, if a bit soupy with too much sauce.

Boxing Day, I ordered in a large pizza because I had a friend over for lunch.

Since then, I have been alternating lasagna and pizza for dinner every night. Tonight (New Year’s Eve), I’ll finally finish the pizza. New Year’s Day, I’ll finish the lasagna.

Then I’ll have to start thinking about what to fix for dinner again. Leftovers are a double-edged sword that way. They are easy, but they can get monotonous.

    1. Hi catsworking!

πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ You are so right πŸ™‚ It is kind of nice not having to think about what having for dinner but it’s easy to get bored of the same food all the time as well πŸ™‚
