Frost tonight?

I have been a little bit stressed today, suddenly the entire internet connection died. I called my phone and internet company and the AI voice said I needed to identify myself with my bank Id, well can’t do that when the internet is gone ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway I was told someone would call me when it was my turn and there were a lot of people before me. Well everything suddenly started to work again so I guess that all those before me in line had the same problem. The Russians? have targeted our telephone/internet companies quite often lately so I guess it was the same again.

It was rather chilly last night, 4C (39,2F) when we woke up. But it might have been even colder in the garden because some plants looked rather sad today. Good thing though is that not even the moose flies fly around in those temperatures ๐Ÿ™‚ As soon as we had come home again I drove to the grocery store in the village I used to work. After all I’ve been shopping there since the day I moved to this region and only because I moved elsewhere and don’t work there any more doesn’t mean I never would go there again ๐Ÿ™‚ They are like old friends at that place and that’s more important than going somewhere closer or cheaper ๐Ÿ™‚

I came back so early that we managed to squeeze in a second morning walk ๐Ÿ™‚ This time out to the bog and I kept my eyes open for mushrooms and found plenty so we’ll head out there tomorrow morning again ๐Ÿ™‚ It was still chilly enough to keep the moose flies calm ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m not sure if there are especially many of them out there to be honest but one moose fly is way too many anyway. The wild hogs had dug up big parts of the path to the bog, it seems it doesn’t matter how many they hunt because it just takes a few days and then they’re back again. Well as long as they stay calm I’m happy.

I had planned to wait to bring in the last potted plants to the cool cellar, they can usually manage the first frost night really well and even more after being outside all summer (totally different in spring when they are brought out again, then they can’t take any frost, that’s why mu citrus trees are rather small this year ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ) but I noticed that some have new shoots and they looked a bit sad after tonight so I brought in almost everything I still have out there. I can’t however not bring in my tomato plants. So I’ve just been outside covering them. I want at least one ripe tomato before frost can take the rest ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

I made rice porridge yesterday and today I think it is time for rose-hip soup, perfect a chilly day or evening when it is a bit too chilly outside. So I think I’ll skip that last cup of tea and have rose-hip soup and some ice cream instead ๐Ÿ™‚

I found this and the next one for sale at the grocery store, less than US 3$ each, so I bought them ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great day!

      1. Alma! What a beauty. I enjoyed thinking about what her life must be like surrounded by such natural beauty…so different from where I live…and so appreciated in your photos. Peace

      2. She is and most people believe she’s a German Shepherd but she’s not. She’s half doberman and half white Swiss shepherd dog ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m not so sure she likes nature at all ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ It has taken over four years to get her calm enough to not trying to rip off my shoulders. The only place she’s really calm is when we’re at home and she can be in the garden or my neighbours garden playing with their kids.

  1. Seeing your daisies, I have a daisy question for you. In the spring, a friend gave me a pot of blooming daisies that were bright (almost neon) yellow, pink and orange. The plants put out a second batch of flowers, but then there were none all summer. I kept the plant mostly outside in the pot unless it rained.

I watered and fertilized it all summer, and recently tied it up in a bunch because the leaves would get big and commit suicide by hanging over the side the pot, which bent the stems so water couldn’t reach the foliage.

For the past week or so, it’s been dropping these tiny black balls, which at first I thought were bugs, but they don’t move so now I assume they are seeds, and they are making quite a mess. But where are they coming from? All there is, is foliage, not even buds. I’m tempted to set up a little pot and sow some of them, just to see if anything sprouts.

    1. Hi catsworking!

Well no daisy that I know of has such seeds, those are rather flat and longer than wider. I have absolutely no idea what it might be that You’ve found. Could be something that they’ve put in the soil so it won’t become too compact when watered.Sometimes those things move around when watering. They can also store some water that the plants can use until next time they get water, so that’s what I’m guessing it might be.

I guess they might have had it too good ๐Ÿ™‚ If a plant believe it has a too good life they can stop flowering, especially if a couple of flowers had managed to make a few seeds. So less fertiliser next summer and I think they’ll continue to flower for a longer period of time.

      1. I think you may be right about the daisy plant having too good a life. A friend who says she is really bad with plants also got one of these at the same time and she said hers flowered all summer. She probably barely watered and never fertilized it.

I don’t think the little black things are from the soil because they’re falling all around outside the pot. It really makes no sense to me that the leaves are generating them. I don’t know if you have them in Sweden, but here we have some bread rolls that come with tiny black seeds on them (that taste like nothing and just get stuck between your teeth), and that’s what these look like.

I’ve put the plant back outside now because it’s back in the 80sF here, but it’s not looking too good. I think these daisies may be annuals and they’re going to die soon.

      2. I do wonder what those little things are, You must try and sow them so we at least will know if they are seeds ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes those tiny poppy seeds (I think they are poppy seeds even though they are so small) that sort of just could have been skipped when baking ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ It might be a different poppy than those we are used to have on bread.

Lets hope they aren’t annuals so You can have them flowering next year again, Just forget about them for a while now and perhaps they’ll give some more flowers before it gets too cold.

  2. Poppy seeds! Yes, that’s what those little black seeds are called here. I could not remember the name at all.

It looks like we’re about to have a storm so I brought the plant in. Now the leaves look all chewed. Only a couple are still healthy. I really don’t think it will make it much longer. I’ll see if it’s still dropping seeds and save some to plant and see what happens. Now I’m thinking they might just be the poop of whatever bug is eating the plant.

    1. Hi catsworking!

Happens to me all the time but sometimes I remember what it’s called in English for some reason ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Too bad if it doesn’t survive but that’s nature I’m afraid.

Could be poop ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ but try and plant some anyway, if nothing happens we’ll know what it really was ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚
