Just as it dried up it started to rain again :-)

I have no idea why but today I slept until six thirty am. Just in time to see the sun rising. So the dogs had their breakfast and I a cup of coffee and out we went. Lots of birds tweeting, a few song swans flew by and we even saw a Roe deer. Alma behaved so good today that I was really surprised, we passed the new neighbours but soon to be moved away neighbours she actually didn’t scream or whine at all. Isn’t that nice, just as they will move she has become calm about them being here πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Despite all the rain we’ve had lately I still continue to water the more dry sensitive and newly planted plants in the garden. One can see that the water has started to sink down in to the ground but only perhaps 30 cm (12 inches) ad that’s not enough. The sun kept on shining so I placed my garden shoes, meaning old shoes that no longer can be used while being out walking, to dry in the sunshine. They are full with soil and sand and now days constantly wet so my feet are packed in with that mud as soon as I have worn them πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Suddenly we had two rather heavy showers passing by so now they’re more wet than before πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I’ve been looking at my aquarium for a while now, I emptied it to one third oaf how much water it can hold because I worked evenings one week a month and had to have the dogs in the cottage because they bark at anything moving when it is dark outside. So after some thinking I said to my self why not making it to a sort of aquaterrarium? A third of water and two thirds of open air where one can plant small plants and so on. No I won’t have any replies or frogs in it just a sort of land part. So I checked the water quality and most parts were ok but not the nitrate levels, that means there’s too much waist after the fish I had and decaying plants.

So I think I have around 35 litres of water in it at the moment. So I thought I have plenty of rainwater now so why not use that? The water I have to drink has a lot of lime and most fish and plants don’t like that. I think I’ve changed over 60 litres (15.9 gallons US) and finally I can see the water getting a bit better πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Β I really cleaned the sand while getting the water out but it is clear I have to do more πŸ™‚ Β So now I know what I’ll do tomorrow πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It is time for that last cup of tea for the day and today I’ll have an ice cream as well. the ice cream lorry drove down on our road Β for the first time this season, turns out the driver had been hit by a brick wall hitting one of his legs and had been on sick leave until now. The one replacing him never cared to come to us on my little gravel road. We are very pleased to see him again πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

  1. Hi Tracy!

The light in your photos is beautifulβ€”it adds such a peaceful mood. I’m new to blogging…is it okay to download your photos and put words to them. I’ll give you credit of course. It looks like bliss where you are.

    1. Hi Tracy!

Yes it is ok with me πŸ™‚ quite an honour actually πŸ™‚

I think the laws all over the world are quite similar, one isn’t allowed to download any photos and claim them as ones own, one isn’t allowed to download them to make money of them without the photographers approval. I actually think it isn’t allowed to use them at all without the approval from the photographer.

It is quite nice here if we forget the flies πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  2. Your third photo gave me a flashback to English class where we were nagged after reading this poem by William Carlos Williams to figure out “What does it MEAN?”

    so much depends

    upon

    a red wheel

    barrow

    glazed with rain

    water

    beside the white

    chickens

Your wheelbarrow isn’t red, and there were no chickens. And no, I still have no idea what that poem is supposed to mean.

Sarah is quite the little gangsta-kitty these days, skulking in the bushes with an attitude. And I’m finally getting used to thinking of the big brown dog (Alma) as a female, and the black one as the boy, after having them switched for so long.

    1. Hi catsworking!

I must admit that I’m one of those people who rarely understands poems πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ There is one thought that I like and laughed when I heard it on tv. Can’t for my life remember the name of it but I’m pretty sure it was written by Pam Ayres.
The chickens comes today instead πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

She is and it looks like she’s best friend with the badger because when I finally saw it She wasn’t especially far away πŸ™‚

  3. Christer, we have not had any significant rainfall in quite awhile, only showers so it would be great if you could send some of your rainfall to NH. And while you are doing that could you also please send the ice cream lorry this way as well. Glad the new driver found your gravel road and what type of ice cream did you enjoy?

Yes, we are looking forward to our Portugal trip. Thanks for letting me know about the friendly people there and we have heard the same. We attended a travel presentation this week about 2026 tours by the company we’re traveling with and are now considering Finland.

Hopefully, you will get another position that you enjoy. Sorry to read you just missed out on a recent one.

Sara is still as bewitching as ever.

    1. Hi Beatrice!

I’m afraid that our rain comes from You or at least from the US πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ We really need it though so You’ll have to wait a while before I can do anything about it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Well it is actually the old driver who is back. He had been on sick leave after getting a brick wall falling over his leg!

I’ve always wanted to go back to Portugal but life sort of always comes in the way somehow. You will not regretting going there.

Finland is a country I’ve never been to but lots of Finns live here in Sweden. Perhaps more quiet than we are when meeting new people but once they open up they’re all very nice. However they are known for being bad in English but if You travel in a group I think You’ll have a translator with You.
Here in Sweden it’s the opposite, everyone can speak English and some English speaking people say that it’s a problem because they never get the chance to learn Swedish properly since we all start to speak English when they talk to us πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

      She is πŸ™‚

      1. While I would like to visit Finland which has been called β€œthe happiest place” the trip is not there, but to Iceland, which I would also like to visit so that is the tour I may sign up to take in November 2026.
