I can hear the storm roaring through the forest.

I woke up in the middle of night hearing strong winds blowing and heavy rain falling and wondered if the storm had arrived early but it calmed down pretty soon so I guess this was something else. I woke up a few hours later and the world was totally quiet, no wind or anything and since we all had woken up, I don’t know how they do it but both dogs and cats always know when we do wake up šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ So I let them outside for a while and it was quite nice outside.

The storm did arrive before noon and it came from a direction that made it touch my garden and cottage and the wind was pretty bad. My Chinese catalpa even bend to the wind and I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. The wind now comes from southwest and stays away from my home but I have a window open so I can hear the roar when it passes through the forest. I like that sound but I like it even better when it doesn’t reach my cottage šŸ™‚

We’ve had a few heavy showers today and I guess more will come because the winds will continue to blow all night and all day tomorrow and they bring showers with them. Thankfully we had our morning walk before it started but I doubt we’ll have one tomorrow, walking in the forest with winds like these can be rather dangerous. Trees might not fall but pines easily will have big branches break off and it isn’t nice to get one of those in the head šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚

So we have done very little today, I’ve done some laundry and picked some berries in the garden and put them in the freezer, I even watered my Himalayan Cedar because it stands on a mount of dirt that easily dries out when the wind blows and the sun shines which it actually has done a lot today, from next year it will have to survive without any help from me because by then it should have roots going deep enough or wide enough to manage it anyway.

The Leeks are coming fine despite that I sowed them too late, forgot about them so almost all dies and then they were covered by potato leafs šŸ™‚
This year the butterfly bush will flower before most butterflies die šŸ™‚ Last year it survived a frosty night and didn’t flower until October šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚

It is time for that last cup of tea and I’m thinking of frying a couple of sausages. I don’t have anything else to have with it so I might cut them and put them on a sandwich with a strong cheese šŸ™‚

Have a great day!

  1. In your second photo, are there several trees broken? I assume the wind would have done that.

I recently had the biggest branch that’s ever come down in my yard (in 38 years) fall next to the driveway, and it just glanced the driver’s door of the car I inherited from my mother. I think the paint is a bit scuffed, or maybe it’s just dirt. The branch was so long and heavy, I could barely move it down into the leave pile I keep on the side for all the yard debris. My backyard is such a steep hill, it’s easier to push everything to the sides than to try to bring it up to street level, where it has no place to go anyway.

And in the top photo, it looks like you’ve got a brown, black and white guinea pig sitting on the first step of that stool.

    1. Hi catsworking!

Yes but they were old and dead, it was the winds during the night that broke them. Couldn’t see any damages after this storm though.

Good thing the branch didn’t do any bigger damages! They are so much heavier than one would think so if it had gotten a direct hit on the car roof it most likely had totalled the car.
      No guinea pig thankfully šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ It’s just a chicken šŸ™‚
We have such a steep place behind the dog yard and lots of fallen trees and other vegetation has been pushed down there šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚

      1. You’re right. If that branch had landed just a few inches over and hit the roof, the car might not have survived it.

I never would have thought that ball off fluff on the stool was a chicken!

  2. Hopefully your weather continues to your liking! We have Douglas fir here that love to drop big branches and cut off our electricity. Sometimes a whole tree comes down and then no internet or light for many hours ! .:-(

But those storms are usually in winter, of course. Then we have to make sure we have enough blankets to keep warm. Dogs are good for warming too.

    1. Hi Carol!

Can’t complain too much about the weather to be honest, sunny early in the morning when we have our morning walk and after that quite iced with both sunshine, clods and some drizzle šŸ™‚

Isn’t always like that, they always comes when it becomes as difficult it can be for us humans šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚
Yes dogs are perfect for that šŸ™‚
