I think this must be one of our most beautiful beetle but it wasn’t until I reduced the size of this photo that I noticed there actually were two beetles.

Yesterday after I had come home from work and the walk with the dogs I started baking a bread, I sat down in the recliner and woke up by the timer alarming that it was time to put the bread in the oven. I was so confused when the alarm started that I had no idea where I were, if it meant I was going to work and why in that case did the sun shine so bright πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ After that the entire evening was sort of strange πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The bread was really good though πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Today has been rather nice, mostly cloudy but with some sunshine every now and again and even a few drops of rain have been falling now in the afternoon. Pollen is hitting me hard now but I’ve still mostly been outside. I had to mow the lawn, well have to isn’t right because no one would care since no one can see it through my hedge anyway but the longer the grass is the more ticks will living here. I do like that wildlife likes my garden but I don’t like the ticks.

After that I dug up the last chunk of Kankakee mallows and replanted them in pots until I know where to place them. I already have three of them in the ground but now I have nine bigger or small plants in pots waiting to get a space somewhere. I know that it is endangered since it only grows on an island in the wild and it has struggled to survive for years, so if they ever need some help to save it I have plenty of plants (and perhaps seeds) to share πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

A few of the Kankakee mallows.

I also replanted some of the seedlings I had in the kitchen and also then last of the trees I had in the cool cellar during winter. Two of the four giant Sequoias have survived winter and is now growing again despite the fact that mice tried to eat them during winter. Now I have to find out what kind of soil they like so I can fix that and repot them as well. They will not spend next winter in the cool clear, that’s for sure so I better think about how I can have them outdoors instead. The Pawpaw trees and slowly getting new leafs but it looks like the Persimmon has lost all of the twigs and branches this winter but the stem is good so lets hope it will grow new ones.

It is time to get something to eat, first the dogs and the monster kitten and after that me. Have no idea though what I’ll make to myself but if I can’t figure out something I can always have corn flakes again πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

  1. I have a pot of exotic-colored daisies that someone gave me some weeks ago, and I’ve been very carefully moving them on and off my deck so they don’t get flattened in a storm, trimming off the dead flowers, watering and fertilizing, and it feels like a lot of work. I can’t imagine doing all the digging, weeding and planting that you do in your garden. Is there ever a time during your summer where you can just sit back and enjoy it, or is it only work?

Also, do you need to knead the bread you make and let it rise before you bake it, or is it simpler? I’ve made Irish soda bread a few times that takes no kneading and doesn’t need to rise first, but the loaf comes out very hard and I don’t find it very tasty.

  2. Hi catsworking!

By the way while I remember it, is the blue flowets You have in the garden possibly Synthyris missurica, Tailed kittentails?

To be honest now days I’m pretty lazy when it comes to the garden, it’s a bit buzy now in spring but later on I do very little except for the mowing part and that I do only once a week 😁

Yes it needs to be kneeded but not by hand because it is way to sticky, so I bought a standing mixer to do the 5 minute job and before thar I used to use an electric whisk. It is very tasty and last a week without going stale or crumbly.

Have You tried toasting the soda bread? It becomes so much better after that.

  3. I enjoy reading about your plant rescues, and the thought you put into their care. Sarah’s markings are getting prettier all the time! We have ticks in the Spring, but we lose them once we have a series of very hot days.

    1. Hi Goodport!

Well I really can’t just let them die πŸ™‚ Plus since I read they are, I thought that the more there are outside their habitat there’s always a chance to save them if something bad happens where they live.

She is pretty! and still quite small, so is her copy up the farm and if I remember it right and her mother is the cat I think it is it’s probably a family thing to be small πŸ™‚

I think our situation with the ticks had been much worse if we had gotten rain instead of warm and dry weather. They dry out themselves rather easily so most of them have probably dug themselves down in to the ground to try and survive for as long as possible.
