So they said the sun would make an appearance in the afternoon today, it didn’t. They are saying we’ll have sunshine all day tomorrow and I’ll believe it if it happens 🙂 🙂 Still we had a really nice walk this morning, yes alma did pull the leash a lot but she didn’t whine! I’ve noticed that I’m much more patient with her when she doesn’t whine, that sound eats its way in to the brain and slices it into pieces and when she doesn’t whine I’m not that hard on her when she pulls the leash 🙂

The hunters were supposed to be here both yesterday and today but I don’t think anyone showed up, the weather hasn’t been with them at all. They were supposed to hunt for hares but I have barely seen even one since last summer. The hare plague comes and goes here so I guess it was here this summer and now it’ll take a few years until they’ve grown in numbers again. We humans can actually get the hare plague via mosquito bites and it can end badly as we also can get vole fever and that can also end badly. Vole fever thankfully only if one get rid of their droppings and don’t wear a face mask. Starts like a cold and after that it just goes down hill.

I made a shrimp and vegetable pie today. The pie crust was excellent and didn’t sink a bit but the filling never really got thicker. The taste however was really yummy so I had no problems eating it 🙂 🙂 🙂 I think I had an egg too little for the filling. I didn’t want a huge pie, after all it is only for me so I reduced the ingredients with a third, I shouldn’t have done that with the egg I think 🙂 🙂 but the taste is the only thing that matters to be honest, so I could actually say that today I had a soup pie 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’ve had a little setback with the flu today, I started to boil when we were out on our morning walk and the coughing has been worse. I also have a slight headache but I think that one comes from our walks and Almas’ pulling the leash, she is rather erratic and open never knows when she’ll try and run forward in high speed 🙂 🙂 🙂

It is time for that last cup of tea for the day and after that fixing the dishes awaits.
Have a great day!

I enjoyed your blog and had a good time playing detective to figure out where you are. Having had a sixteen year tour in Atlantic Canada, I knew you were likely in a northern spot but it did not remind me of any of Canada that is burned into my memory. I saw the reference to the adult education center shooting and guessed that you are likely in central Sweden. We are a lot farther south now we have gotten older but I miss the walks in the forests and fields. Keep writing, I did my first blog post in November 2004. Sometimes I think it is the only thing that keeps me sane. My viewfromthemountain.typepad.com in its early years was a lot like your. I wrote a post a day about what I was doing. There are over 1,500 posts there and I am having a hard time even doing a decent index. Maybe now that I have lost my job, I will have time. Looking forward to you next post. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi ocracokewaves!
I’m glad You like it here 🙂
Yes Sweden between the two big lakes. I van’t remember when I wrote my first blog post but it was in Swedish and before the 2000. That web hotel died I’m afraid and all post went out in the cyber world.
I do like to walk around here but since Alma arrived we can almost always just walk in the forest, normally during winter we also walked in the huge cow pastures we have here but she gets so stressed by all sounds from passing vehicles that we can’t do that any more, I do miss it though and we’re working to try and get back there again.
I do have extra time now days since I too lost my job, technically I had to quite because I couldn’t work those hours they demanded me too.
Still a bit left to say the flu is gone but it is at least better 🙂

Christer, that sounded like an interesting pie and I also made a new-to-=us pie last week. It was a pork pie which used ground pork and potatoes, which sounded rather bland, so I added onion, garlic and some other vegetables (peas and carrots) and it was much better. The only downside was that it collapsed when we tried to cut a serving slice. Hope you will be feeling better soon.

Hi Beatrice!
I never just do as the recipe says 🙂 🙂 So I’m pretty sure Your pie turned out to be much better than the recipe one would have been 🙂
Mine didn’t collapse the second day so it was even better the day after 🙂 I guess it just needed to rest a day in the cold, I know some pies must be served cold so perhaps this and Yours was one of those?

Tater Tot, the cat I inherited when my parents died, is a whiner. First thing in the morning when I open a can to feed them, Roc and Tony patiently wait for their plates while Tater whines incessantly like she’s starving. It’s the most annoying sound, but it immediately stops when she starts eating. She hasn’t been a stray for 6 years, yet she still acts as if she has to scrap and fight for everything she gets, while my boys very politely let her have whatever she wants.
Your symptoms are so strange. I hope you get better soon. We don’t have hare plague or vole fever in the U.S. that I know of. Our thing now is bird flu, and it’s passing from cows, chicken and cats to humans. But my cats never go outdoors or eat raw meat, so I think we’re safe.

Hi cats working!
I know what You mean, here at home Alma’s the most wonderful dog and barely makes a sound. Two hours with walking with her is a pain in the a..e though 🙂 🙂 🙂
I’ve realised that they never forget how it was to starve and old Nova was well over 12 years old before she started to eat in a calm way, some never do. She on the other hand became extremely slow in eating her food after that and I think she did so because all the other dogs stood around her trying to take it from her but since I stood there the entire time she just took her time and enjoyed it 🙂 🙂 🙂
WE don’t have the bird flu here but I guess if it mutates over at Yours so it starts to spread from human to human it’ll only be a matter of time before we get it too. Lets hope they’ll get a vaccine before it does!

I’m sitting here watching a snowstorm today, which is VERY rare. They say maybe 3-5 inches before turning to rain. The city of Richmond will be paralyzed. I was supposed to do jury duty today, but they told me in a phone message last night “Service complete” and they will summons me again if they ever need me. I was thrilled about that. I hate cleaning off the car and driving on slippery roads.
The cats are amazingly polite about eating. Nobody tries to steal another’s food until after that cat has left the room and shows no interest in returning. Then they might clean the plate. Tater the former stray usually hangs around and cleans everybody’s plate. I got Roc and Tony as kittens, so they learned manners early on and don’t feel they need to gulp their food.
But one thing they ALL have is a very keen sense of fairness. If I give food or treats, or even some bit of meat off my own plate, to one, I have to offer it to all or they give me devastated looks or get aggressive about finding out what they missed. When serving their food, I have to make the plates equal because they look at each other’s out to make sure everyone gets a fair share.

Hi cats working!
We don’t have jury duty like that, we have I think five layman getting paid to do that and they come from all political parties, next step if one appeals is five legal professionals and after that it’s the Supreme Court taking over and they’ll only doing that if something is unusual. So I don’t have to worry about doing that 🙂 Good thing You didn’t have to drive around in that weather!
Sara is anything but polite, she’ll steal the dogs food if she can so I need to stay while they all are eating 🙂 🙂 🙂
Yes one van’t give only one of them 🙂 🙂 🙂 Even Sara wants a bite if the dogs get something, so far she has liked everything she’s been offered 🙂

Hi Christer,
I don’t see you in my Facebook feed much anymore and I can’t comment from my phone for some reason. So I dragged out my laptop and caught up with you. I’m sorry you have the flu and that it seems to have revisited you.
Alma does look relieved at being out of the fray. The Monster Kitten is fierce. She also has quite beautiful markings.
We’ve had snow at least 5 times since the middle of January. If it didn’t snow, it was colder than midnight on Pluto. It wouldn’t be so bad if the wind wasn’t gale force most of the time. At least 4 of the 5 storms have been under 4 inches of light stuff. Saturday night’s storm was 6 inches of somewhat heavy junk. Three more storms are predicted for this week. I feel like I am living at the North Pole and hope that February 2025 is not going to be another Snowpocalypse like February 2015.
Rocky whines a bit when I’m not getting his message. It’s a growling whine, though, so not as irritating as a true whine. Rocky is not doing so well these days as he has kidney disease. Because of that he also got a deep corneal ulcer on his left eye. Fortunately, it healed well so he still has the eye but he has to have eye drops in both eyes from now on. He’ll be 16 years old this Friday.

Hi Caryn!
It’s the same for me! I need to look You up because You’re almost never in my feed!!
The flu never truly leave us 🙂 🙂 it comes back over and over again 🙂 🙂
Alma have ambivalent feelings when it comes to the monster kitten. She likes to play with her and clean her but really doesn’t like when the little monster cuddles up to her so that’s when Malkolm jumps in 🙂 🙂 🙂 He and the little monster chase each other all over the cottage and she has a tendency to use all claws to hold on to him and chew on him where ever she reaches 🙂 🙂 🙂
We’ve been lucky with the weather here, snow comes and goes but rarely stays for long, Cold nights and warm days has been the standard for a while but now it’ll start to get colder again but not as cold as it has been over at Yours thankfully but we still have lots of winter left so it might arrive anyway. We had our snowpocalyps the day after Malkolm arrived and that was late March/ early April and I really don’t want that this year 🙂 🙂 🙂
Poor Rocky! It isn’t easy to get old. I’m glad the eye got better and hope it stays that way!16 years! not bad! May he continue much longer!

Hi Christer,
I hope very much that your symptoms recede quickly and you feel better very soon.
I thoroughly enjoy all your photos : sunrise & sunset, fog, weather, plants, landscapes, the pups, monster Sara & the neighbor’s equines.. Thank you so much for sharing them with us!
The photos of Malkolm running, Malkolm playing with Alma and all the Sara photos
make me feel very happy. I must confess that every photo of the neighbor’s horses make me smile and chuckle; they’re all so nicely fleshed out. But the round plumpness of that fat little Fjord is so danged cute it makes me chuckle even more.

Hi Denali Sam!
They never do but I’ve had worse, as a flu this one has been rather mild, not fun anyway but mild 🙂 🙂
I’m glad You like them and I agree with You about the Fjord 🙂
