Grey and dull.

The weather has been grey and dull and we’ve had misty rain most of the time. Also so dark that I’ve had to have lights on all day. We’ve been out in the forest but to be honest this day has sucked the energy out of us all so not even Alma was especially overjoyed to have any walks πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I must admit that I will be happy when the elections in the US are over πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Our different tv companies has shown bigger interest in this election that they’ve done to our own πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Today for instance they showed when the Polling stations opened up all over the country, discussed everything and anything about the presidential candidates, pros and cons for us and our economy and to be honest a little too much enthusiastic over all. They’ve checked how we Swedes would vote if we were allowed and 80% would vote for Kamala (I think Obama would have gotten over 92% but that was before our fascists grew big), only the fascists would vote for the orange nazi. I’ll also be very happy when all the spam mail begging for money will end coming to my e-mail account πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I’m up to 60 e-mails every day now.

We’ve been in the garden quite a lot today because it has been rather warm. There’s still two walnuts hanging in the tree and it seems they refuse to fall down, I have peeled all the walnuts that has fallen down. The misty rain forced us to go inside rather often, misty rain eats its way through any form of clothes so it really isn’t nice after a while. So instead I’ve baked two loafs of bread, not a total success but way better than the last time. The odd thing is that one actually can cut a couple of slices just after it has come out from the oven but try it a few seconds later and the bread just collapses πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

So since it was so dark and gloomy today and like always this time of year I felt a little Christmas spirit I made some rice porridge πŸ™‚ And of course I used the Christmas porridge plate πŸ™‚
It is basically round rice (even though any rice can be used, it just gets a slightly different texture). First boiled in some water for 15 minutes and after that let it simmer in milk in around 40 to 60 minutes.
I do have a piece of cinnamon in it while it boils but when it is done I sprinkle more over it all and today I also added some strawberry jam πŸ™‚

No wolves yesterday either but a couple of Roe deer instead. Alma’s tail indicated that they might not be around any longer but there are plenty of other animals around so I hope our fox pass by soon. Back in the days when we had lots of moose here they quite often passed by even during day time, so there’s a minimal chance the camera might be able to get one of those too. I doubt that and Red deer or Fallow deer will come close enough though, they are still too shy to come close to our cottages.

It is time for that last cup of tea and most likely a sandwich or two. Both the dogs and the kitten will have a tiny piece each. I’m not surprised that the dogs like it but Sara the cat will go insane if she doesn’t get some too πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  1. Looks like all the pets are warm and cozy! I love your little porridge plate. It looks like an antique and similar to a baby plate that was given when my sister was born.

    1. Hi ppekka!

Well I think the pattern is old but the plates aren’t older than 30 years or so. This is one of those series that one always can find in stores. Rather expensive I think but I won them in a lottery πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    1. Mmmmm rice porridge ! I call it “riz au lait” and I love that !

I am very anxious about the elections in the US and the French media focus on them more than they do about the last French elections, when the President ignored the results of the vote and chose a prime minister who is close to the far right, while the votes went mostly to the left.

This is why I like so much your blog, with all the beautiful photos and the everyday life that you live with your pets.

I hope your health will be OK and that you will find a job soon.

      Take care πŸ‘‹

Yes that shoe πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ He has a couple of old shoes he’s allowed to chew and thankfully he then leaves the rest alone πŸ™‚

      3. Hi Poppy Celeste!

I do too πŸ™‚ It does take a long time to do but it’s so worth it πŸ™‚ A must have on Christmas eve (that’s when we celebrate Christmas here πŸ™‚ ) and of course I have it all winter long πŸ™‚

I don’t have high thoughts about Your President, everything he does leads to the right wings nuts coming closer to power. A president for the rich. To be honest our government isn’t better, three parties towards the right leaning on a fascist party to be able to stay in power. Since the fascists knows the government can’t do anything their approval it is them who actually have the power, such idiots!

I do try to keep politics away from this place but I’ve twice criticized politicians here, one is of course Trump the second is Macron πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
Thankfully very little happens here, at least when it comes to politics πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

        Thank You to both:-)

  2. Hello, Christer. I love the porridge bowl, and will look into making the rice porridge. When you say β€˜round rice’, do you mean short-grain, or an Arborio type of rice?
Love all the photos, and smile thinking of the dogs and Sara getting bites of the sandwich.
I woke up to the devastating election news this morning, and am still trying to wrap my head around it.

    1. Hi Goodport!

To be honest, they sell that rice just as porridge rice but I’ve checked around the net and it seems as rice for Risotto is working, so any rice similar to that. I have done it with other kinds of rice but I would say that rice coming out sticky works best.
I guess some recipes vary from this one but here’s mine for two portions but in our measurements:
three quarters of a dl with rice
one and a half dl with water
one spice measure (a pinch with other words) of salt
      four dl of milk.
I also put in a table spoon of sugar, preferable with vanilla in it but one do need that sweetness in it.
One cinnamon stick. You can skip this if You don’t like cinnamon but for me it is a must. I’ll also sprinkle cinnamon over the porridge when it is time to eat it. I always pour cold milk in the porridge when I’m eating it. You know how tomatoes becomes hotter than hell when they are hot? πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ It’s the same with rice porridge πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Some people like to make a strawberry or raspberry sauce to have in the porridge instead, that’s nothing I like though.

Boil the rice in the water until there’s no water above the rice but still water in the pot, usually takes 10-15 minutes but that depends on the strove so keep an eye on it. When it has pour in the milk and let it simmer, with the pot lid on, for around 30-40 minutes. I do stir it every now and again during that time otherwise it can stick bad to the bottom of pot and if You would burn the rice in the bottom it is unedible. Thick bottomed pot is always best.

I hope this will help You!

Yes the result is horrifying but it is waht it is and he’s old You know πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  3. Everyone looks very comfortable napping. The kitten has the heated seat, I see. πŸ˜€

The elections are over. Trump is in and has a majority in both houses of Congress. This is going to be very bad for a lot of people.

Meanwhile, the sun is shining and it’s 75Β° F. In November. In the Northern Hemisphere. I like not having to burn very expensive oil but it’s weird to be in short sleeves outside at this time of the year. I will look upon it as the planet depriving Trump and his “Drill, Baby, drill” oil buddies of some of their profits.

Two of my black walnut trees have those stubborn nuts on them as well. The little one near the sidewalk has one that is hanging right over the sidewalk like it’s waiting for the perfect target upon which to fall. The Old One in the back yard has 7 or 8 of them hanging 50 feet up near the top.

    1. Hi Caryn!

I’m afraid You are right but as I said to Goodport he’s old and doesn’t have the best of lifestyles πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

We did have some sunshine today, should have been all day according to our weather sites but wasn’t even close and now we have so thick fog that I even can’t see the lights from the neighbors across the cow pasture. I do hope we’ll have it tomorrow morning too πŸ™‚
We aren’t close to Your temperature but it is unusual that we have these temperatures here this time of year, close to 50F and it won’t help having Trump as Your president I’m afraid but then again we do have the most incompetent idiot as a environmental minister in the world, I could talk hours about her πŸ™‚ but I’ll just get depressed πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Only one walnut hanging still but I guess it’ll fall soon. Only 15 feet up though πŸ™‚
