I didn’t expect that after 17 in the same work place.

I’ve been a bit distant lately and that’s because after working for 17 years at my work place I’ll have to quit my job. Not because I’ve done something wrong in any way but because my employer decided that I should start working four days a week (Monday till Thursday) from 4:25 pm to 03:00 am the next day. I told them I can’t do that for several reasons, I normally sleep from 9 pm to around 4:am and can’t just change my sleeping habits like that. They did this to me last autumn and I still have problems from that. I also can’t have my dogs in the dog yard because they bark like crazy as soon as any animal passes by.

The badger walks along my garden every night now days, deer pass by, our fox comes for visits and not forgetting all the cats that live here. If they bark they’ll wake up my neighbors and both the adults and the kids need their sleep and it’s illegal to have the dogs locked up in the cottage for so many hours without contact with humans plus I would have to clean up the entire cottage every morning when i come home every morning because they do need to do their business and I can’t let them out to do it. Unfortunately employers here can treat their employees just as bad as they want to without the union doing anything when it comes to at least my union.

If I come to work in the morning instead to work I won’t be paid and if I don’t come in the afternoon when they say I must work I will be charged (is that the right word?) with unauthorized absence and when that has happened too many times I’ll be charged with refusal to work and then they’ll fire me and I will never be able to find a new job with that hanging over me. So my last day will be on September 16, the day after I’ve had my sixtieth birthday. Anyway this is all I really can write about it now because I will still work there for a few more weeks. I must admit though that I’m feeling just fine, no worries at all and since I’m willing to take any job as long as I don’t have to work at night I’m pretty sure I’ll find a new job fairly quick, I at least hope so 🙂 🙂 🙂

The rain has poured down here today so for the first time in a long time I didn’t have to water anything when I came home after work 🙂 The Ice cream lorry passed by but since I now need to keep an eye on my finances I never went out to buy any ice cream, it felt a bit sad but better start now than when it is too late. On the other side I now I have two more Red mulberry trees 🙂 🙂 🙂 To my defence I bought those before I knew about this 🙂 🙂 🙂 These two will stay in my cool cellar during winter and then I’ll find a place for them in the garden next spring 🙂 The one I already have will be planted this weekend I think, I wonder where 🙂 🙂

The Rowan trees gives loads of berries this year. One can make the most delicious jelly from them even though the berries themselves are pretty tart.

This is a Jerusalem artichoke called Bianca. Normally it starts to flower at the end of September so it’s around a month early. I guess it’s because we had that long heatwave in May.

Time for a last cup of tea and then snooze in front of the tv 🙂

Have a great day!

  1. Do they have the right to ask you to work almost 10 hours a day ? Do you have to quit or do they fire you and give you compensation money ?

Will you need to get another job, or can you get a pension and spend your life enjoying your garden and your dogs and making photos ?

At what age can you retire in Sweden ?

    1. Hi Poppy Celeste!

I’m afraid they have, as long as we get at least 8 hours sleep until the next time we go to work again.
I had to quite because if I didn’t they would after a while have fired me because of unauthorized absence and refusal to work and then I would have no chance what so ever to get a new job. We once had really good laws here but weak unions and governments that cares more about billionares than workers have made them more or less useless.

Unfortunately too early to retire so a new job is a must so I have my friends listening after places that needs someone and I will of course also use the employment agency. I can go in to part time retirement from when I’m 63 and depending on how much money I want to have I really can start at the age of 64 but to get more money I will wait until I’m 65. Still not much money I’ll get but I live cheap so I can manage.

  2. i’m so sorry for your troubles! i don’t understand how your union allows this to happen. isn’t that sort of thing what unions are supposed to prevent from happening? can you get a partial government pension at your age? here in canada you can get one starting at age 55. i hope you find another job that allows you lots of dog time, garden time, and rambling around taking wonderful photos time. 💕🐾🕊

    1. Hi mandolin mama!

One could think so but apparently not. It would have been better for me to be a huge a.se all the time because then the union will help me if I get in trouble but if You have actually never been in trouble at work they don’t do a shit. The old president of the company was ashamed how I’ve been treated but he can’t do much I’m afraid. I can write more about it when I’m not an employee of their an more 🙂

I can go on partial retirement at 63 here.

Well I’m glad if I get a job that pays enough and they don’t force me to work at nights 🙂 🙂 🙂

  3. That’s absolutely insane to expect you to adjust to such hours when you didn’t agree to any such thing when you were hired. I hope you soon find better people to work for.

  4. I’m very sorry to hear this, C, it seems extremely unfair and cruel too. I can’t bear the thought of you having to deal with this without ice cream…it seems even more unfair. I would be so grateful if you’d allow me to buy you a good stock of ice cream to see you through until you have a new job? (Because I’m miserable now and this will make me feel better). I can message you on BlueSky to sort this out, if you could check your DMs? We can do it in a way that doesn’t compromise any bank security on your side…and I can give you lots of credentials to prove I’m a real person in NZ and not a scammer. I enjoy your photos and stories so much so I’m indebted to you as it is 😃😃

    1. Hi blythedunbar!

There will be ice cream but I thought it best to just start cutting down already now so it will be easier if I really need to do it later.
I have been convinced since the beginning that You are a real person 🙂 Scammers and trolls always have a certain style when they write, like they had some genetic coding forcing them to write that way 🙂 🙂 🙂

  5. Oh, my. That is a surprise. Perhaps your employer will reconsider your work schedule if they realize they will lose a good employee. Otherwise, it sounds like you will have quite a birthday present for yourself!

    1. Hi ppekka!

Yes I really was surprised but still not, I can write more about this when I’m not an employee of theirs any more.
It really isn’t the company itself but one person and he will rather die than change his mind 🙂 🙂 🙂

    1. Hi ndungar!

Unfortunately not, I live too far from everywhere and few people would like to be woken up at 4 am 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’m very confident that things will turn out well, the economy is slowly going back to normal again and after a while they’ll need to get more workers again 🙂

    1. Hi Joy!

The blog will keep on as if nothing bad happens in the world 🙂
This is how the world works now days and besides voting for those You think will make things better there’s very little else we can do I’m afraid. Well there’s always revolution but I’m not fond of those 🙂 🙂 🙂
