The rain has been pouring down for two days now. So no walks after work since none of the dogs would follow me outside 🙂 🙂 The grass on the entrance side is now so wet and soggy that not even the dogs will walk there, well walk is the wrong word since sliding in the mud is more accurate.

One really good thing with the rain though is that Alma has stayed indoors in the dog houseand the old garage the entire time so she hasn’t been outside to try and escape again 🙂 She’s quite intelligent when she likes to. She really listens to everything I tell her to do when we’re at home. She studies the weak points in the dog yard and starts to work on them when she has figured out what and how to do it. She however still can’t walk properly when leashed 🙂 🙂 🙂

I have things to paint at work but the one putting them in to our computer system is sick so I can’t paint them. A bit annoying to be honest. I have had loads to do anyway so time has passed fairly quick anyway.lots of people have colds now and many have been staying at home so there’s no risk I would get time over to be bored 🙂 🙂 It would be nice if I for once missed one of these colds, I feel I’ve had way too many this year as it is 🙂

I think it is time for a cup of warm cocoa and perhaps a couple of digestives. I have no blue cheese at home but to be honest any kind of cheese works with digestives 🙂
Have a great day!
Hi Christer,
Your walnut should be attempting to have walnuts soon. It’s big enough and old enough, I think. Your climate might slow it down some. The tree beside my house started bearing nuts a few years ago. There’s a tall skinny walnut in the back yard that produced nuts this year for the first time. It’s as tall as the two older ones on either side of it but I suspect it has been spending all its energy getting tall enough to fill that open piece of sky and grab some light. It’s trunk is clear of side branches for probably 15 feet or more but the trunk is straight and narrow. Maybe it’ll thicken up now that it has a spot in the sun.
Damp, muggy, and warm here today. It wants to rain but just can’t muster the energy. It’ll rain tomorrow.
Have a great day.

Hi Caryn!
I had hoped it would try this year so I really hope it will next. I guess You’re right about our climate here might slow it down but these last years winters have become much milder and shorter while spring and autumn have become longer. I do have high hopes of at least a few walnuts next year 🙂
That tree would be seen as really valuable back in the days when we used more wood. Trees with long trunks and no branches low were often use to make boats or really fine furnitures.
Chilly but rain free here, nice for a change 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.

Yes, that tree would be very valuable even now as it’s almost perfectly straight. Trouble is that it doesn’t have much girth because it spent its time getting tall as quickly as it could. I think it’s mostly the heartwood that woodworkers want. This tree might be 18 inches in diameter and it’s pretty much the same diameter most of the way up. If it wasn’t a very tall tree, I’d call it spindly. 😀 Maybe now that it has a nice piece of open sky it will be able to put on some girth.

If it had been wider it would work really great to make veneer from, can get lots of that from only one fully grown tree.
It most likely will get bigger now when it think it will get enough light.
