It is time to renew my electricity contract. I haven’t checked what they offer yet but I’m pretty sure it’ll be expensive. I can take a fixed price for one year or pay what the electricity costs every hour. If I take the last one I need to check when ever the price is low and do all laundry and vacuuming then and that would most likely be in the middle of the night πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I think I’ll go for the fixed price. It might be expensive now but god knows how expensive the electricity will be when winter hits Europe.

  1. Hi Christer,
My electric bill went up by USD$20.00 a month. So far. At first I thought it was because of using AC during the heat wave but the next bill was the same and I hadn’t used the AC at all. I don’t want to think about oil heat this season. The last two bills were double what I had been paying. I can’t carry that. I hope it’s a warm winter because it’ll be cold in my house. πŸ™
The weather remains cloudy, cool, and very windy. Yes, I have had to turn on the heat briefly just to take the chill off.
    Have a great day.

    1. Hi Caryn!

I checked what they offered and I knew it would be high but that was just ridiculous! I’ll write more about it tomorrow. I have electric radiators so my electrical bil are always a bit high in winter but since I use very little electricity otherwise I have very low bills in summer. I can’t even imagine what I would have to pay if I had to buy oil πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ At the moment one kubik meter oil 20300 swedish kronor (would be something like $ 2030 US) . It’ll be cold here too so let us all hope that the green house effect kicks in hard this winter so that our heating costs will be low πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Very windy and lots of rain today and I have two radiators on all the time now.

      Have a great day!

      Christer.

      1. US$2030.00?!?!?!?!? Holy moly!! I’d be risking lighting the old gas oven that hasn’t been used in 13 years, if I had to pay that much. And maybe I might. I haven’t checked the prices lately. Last I saw it would cost about US$830.00 for 200 gallons (about 0.75 cubic meters). Gasoline is going up so I bet heating oil will be, too. :/ Hope it’s a sunny winter so I can sit on the very warm front porch during the day. πŸ˜€

      2. Yeah, they sure knows how to make us appreciate a cold home with those prices πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Our petrol prices are nasty high too but that You already know πŸ™‚

  2. Out electricity costs are also higher, but not as high as what you have listed for yours, Christer. We do try to economize as much as possible by wearing warmer clothing in winter and keeping the thermostat set for around 65 degrees F. Thankfully, we are able to afford an increase, which is unwanted, of course. But for those who are not as fortunate, these rising costs are so unsettling.

    1. Hi Beatrice!

We used to have really cheap electricity but since we joined the European market our prices went sky high. I’ll keep my temperature at 68F for as long as I can and hope that what ever government we’ll have soon gives us the pay back of most of that cost as they promised before the election. I can afford this too but lots of people will have to decide whether they want to have a warm home or if they want to eat this winter.

      Have a great day!

  3. Christer,
Utilities never go down. I know there have been times they’ve had to be higher but sometimes the reasons they were higher have disappeared, but the companies keep the high costs so they can make money.

I used to wear a long sleeve shirt, and that was enough to keep me warm but not anymore. Now I need a sweatshirt so I don’t have to keep the heat high.

The dogs seem to enjoy the cooler weather and cooler house.

    Take care!

    1. Hi Kat!

      So true!

Thankfully I have three living radiators in my bed at night so no need to turn on the heat in the bedroom πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So far I’ve only worn a blanket if it feels chilly but the sweaters aren’t far off in the future I’m afraid.

The dogs love these temperatures πŸ™‚

      Have a great day!

      Christer.
