Category: The fields.

I think Sara’s mother came from this farm. I haven’t seen her since we found Sara so I don’t think the mother is still alive.

The weather has really been boring for a couple of days now but it is well above 0 C (32 f) so I’m not complaining too much. The cottage becomes a mess though because since the dogs don’t want to be outdoors besides for walk they play indoors instead πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ They aren’t allowed to do it in the living room because of the aquarium so mostly they play in my bed πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

This was all sunshine I saw yesterday, not much but beautiful and a lot more than today πŸ™‚

Β  Β

Today was a good day for Alma, not so much yesterday though but the periods when she is calmer seems to stay longer now. In this speed I’ll be long gone and dead by the time she’ll be able to behave like most other dogs, a year ago I’d never thought that would happen so it’s a step forward πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚Β I took a look at the trees in the cool cellar and despite that it actually has been pretty cold down there Some of them now shows new leafs! I don’t want that to happen πŸ™‚ They are supposed to rest until at least early March Now I’ll have huge problems rearranging everything so that they’ll get light as well. I’ve also had a walk in the garden to examine how the new smaller trees are doing in the garden.

Β  Β

The Pawpaws look really healthy and have little to no frost damages and it’s the same with the Camellias I placed out there because they just too too much space in the cool cellar. I think that if winter doesn’t get colder than it has been so far they might even survive, I’m not counting on that though but they do look healthy. I have three different Mulberry trees out there too, A black called “Mulle” and it is the least hardy of them. Rather big frost injuries on that one but it will most likely survive and if it does it will become hardier next winter. I also have a white Mulberry tree and it is supposed to be the hardiest one but that too has some big frost injuries but it is far better than the black one. The one that has managed the winter best so far without any frost problems is the Red mulberry. I have two more in the cellar and it is of course those that has been growing new leafs πŸ™‚ I have no idea how this will affect them towards next winter when they’ll be standing in the garden.

Β  Β  Β

The Persimmon tree looks really well as well. I was a bit worried about that tree because some fungi had attacked it during summer and it looked so sad before it got cold πŸ™‚ I also had those new branches that grew up from the roots of the dead persimmon hybrid, well they are no more but not because of the cold but because unknown dogs πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ had trampled them down while playing in the garden. I hope I’ll get lucky, even though this year has been anything but, and that new branches will grow up because then I’ll protect them so much better.

Β  Β  Β

It has finally stopped with shorter days and longer nights πŸ™‚ Today the sun rose somewhere behind the clouds at 8:53 am and set at 3:16 pm here where I live in the village at the outskirts of the world. Some places further north haven’t seen the sun for ages. Then again we’ll get it back during summer where the sun won’t set at all for a long time. Even here further south it’ll be bright for a long time after the sun has set because of the angle towards the sun so when the day is at its longest we still only will have a couple of hours when it’s almost dark. Well it is time for that last cup of tea with lots of ginger in it and then I’ll most likely fall asleep in front of the tv.

Β  Β

Have a great day!

Much hardier than I thought.

It’s finally warmer again but not especially close to what they guessed, instead of 10 C (50 F) it reached 4.5 C (40,1 F). They did guess it right when it came to the rain though and it it also quite windy so the photos You see today are from yesterday when it still was cold and sunny, so much nicer to look at πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

Nothing much has happened here and that’s just how I like it πŸ™‚ I had decided to let one of my seed grown Gardenias stay outdoors because I have very little space indoors now πŸ™‚ So I ignored that the cold period would come and it fell down to -12 C (10.4 F) and I thought that was it, after all it comes from warmer areas. So I brought it in anyway and now it has a slightly too dark place in the cool cellar. So I just checked the hardiness for it and to my very big surprise it is hardy down to -12 C(10.4 F) πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Well I hope any pests it could have gotten from when living indoors, like whitefly have died πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

I have also gone tired of my Camellias since they only flower while down in the cool cellar, I know they can take this cold and some more so I’m not surprised that they still look really healthy out there.Β  I want around in the garden to see how my small trees had managed this first cold period. The Persimmons has frozen some, the tips of their branches but looks good otherwise. To my very big surprise the Pawpaws looks totally untouched by this first cold and those were the ones I was most worried about πŸ™‚ The English walnut is also untouched by the cold and the Red mulberry, White mulberry and the one called M. accidosa or Mulle as its name is as well πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

Well this was the first cold weather for most of them and winter is young, Last winter really didn’t start until early February and ended in the middle of March just to come back to easter again for a week, just as I brought home Malkolm πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ We had 40 cm (20 inches) of snow and it took a week for it to melt away πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I wouldn’t mind if this was the last snow for this winter but my neighbor wants snow on her birthday on December 3 and on Christmas, after that she doesn’t care either πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

I think I’ll skip that last cup of tea for the day and Instead I’ll make some rose-hip soup, fits so well on a windy and rainy day like today. I’ll also have a slice or two from the loaf I baked today πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

Have a great day!

A horrible smell of burnt metal and god knows what :-)

The photos comes from today and yesterday.

We had a sort of nice weather yesterday, not much sunshine but quiet windy with warm winds, today another storm, well that is perhaps a bit much to call it but the gusts were really strong. Still rather warm though. I didn’t want to walk in the forest because the risk of falling trees and I didn’t want to walk in the village because of the gusts so we walked down to the creek. Almost in the forest but the trees along both the road and creek are rather low compared to the forest.

Β  Β  Β

It’s always slightly impossible to walk with Alma the first two hundred meters (much the same in yards) , she’s everywhere and nowhere at the same time quite often whining and screaming like obcessed but after that she behaved really well, I guess all the treats in my pocket helped me with that πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ To be honest she really doesn’t do anything to get the treats, she’s happy to get them if she for some reason do something right for once πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ She will remember nothing of that by the day after πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

I sat down to watch tv when we came home and suddenly a smell filled the air, sort of metallic burning and really wet wood combination, I can’t describe it any better and it was pretty awful. So I started to sniff around all electrical things that was on and I just couldn’t find from where it came. So for a while I thought it might be the tv itself slowly melting inside. I pulled out the cord and opened a door to let the air out. I was worried that perhaps the cords inside the walls, I hate having cords in the walls since this is an old tree cottage and god knows what I would be able to do if they started to burn in there.

Β  Β  Β

Anyway, after the door had been open for a while the air smelled a bit better so I sat down in my reclines and watched the air to see if there was any smoke in it. That’s when I heard a thermostat klicking behind me.Β  There is an old radiator on the wall beneath the window that I haven’t used in well over twenty years because it never managed to be especially warm and I guess that the dogs when squeezing between the wall and my recliner have managed to press on the On/ Off button while passing through. So when that started to warm up well over twenty years of dust getting in to that radiator slowly started to burn off πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

You might wonder why I haven’t replaced that radiator years ago? Well in it is connected straight to the electric wiring and has no contact to pull out, also new radiators like that has a quick connect so one just can disconnect it and replace the old radiator. Here the cord goes straight in t the wall. Plus I’ve tried to remove it from the wall but I just can’t get it even to wiggle, it is stuck πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So since I don’t want the dogs to accidentally start it again, I’m not worried it will start to burn but that smell was awful πŸ™‚ The On/Off button isn’t easy to press, so I’ve now put up a cover over that button πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ One day I’ll get an electrician come over here and remove all those now turned off old radiators. They were really good radiators for their time but the ones I have now, with anΒ  electric plug are so much better.

Β  Β  Β

I think it is time for that last cup of tea and then most likely dooze off in front of the tv πŸ™‚

Β

Have a great day!

Alma did not want to share her chew hide πŸ™‚

We were supposed to have fog this morning but it never happened, now on the other hand I can see that it is rolling in over the village. Well I can always hope for tomorrow. So mostly grey and dull but thin enough clouds to make it brighter than yesterday.

Β  Β  Β

I had to go to the super market this morning because I forgot to but cat litter last time I was there. I did need some cheese as well but nothing more. Well I came home with more things but that’s what can be expected of me πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Lots of christmas stuff up now and if it hadn’t been that Sara the cat screamed her way in to my home, she has enormous lungs for being so small and that’s good for her since I never would have found here otherwise πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I would perhaps have bought some christmas ornaments for my plastic christmas tree.

Β  Β  Β

No idea to do that now because she’s a climber and tends to toss down anything she can on the floor πŸ™‚ She has so far not started to chew on the potted plants but I think I need to move one of the orchids because I think they are poisonous in all their parts. I have to admit that it was nice to have a christmas tree again but since it is plastic it will last until I can bring it out again, well that depends on how old the little girl will become and me too to be honest, after all that tumor on my kidney is a question mark at the moment.

Β  Β  Β

The dogs and I walked down to the creek again and Alma behaved so good until she heard something moving in the forest, after that she was a bit much but still so much better behaved than she was just a year ago. Losing Nova (and Albin) must have been rather hard for her. Malkolm had his nose towards the ground the entire time so he didn’t notice anything at all πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β  Β

I think it is time for that last cup of tea for the day. I haven’t had anything to eat since just after we came home from our walk so a sandwich or two would be fine as well πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

A sort of meh fog today.

Much the same weather today but the fog was sort of meh. It was too thin to really make a big difference and instead just made the world look a bit more sad πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

The hunters were supposed to be in the forest today but I don’t think anyone actually came. Anyway we walked in to the village instead and Alma behaved well enough until we had walked slightly more than half the way. That’s when a car passed around 200 meters (much the same in yards) ahead of us, I guess someone had to go to work. After that she pulled the leash a lot and whined all the way home. I really can’t understand why, she really doesn’t care about cars passing by on the gravel road here at home.

Β

This is the tree with the pastel colored leafs and it looks like an old tree with a thick trunk.
But it’s actually several trees, there are some trunks one only can see from a distance.

If it wasn’t puling the leash she has this nasty habit on walking behind me sliding towards my left side (she should walk on the right) and if she see something then she suddenly can start running forward like crazy. That is how she has ripped my right shoulder a couple of times. It hurts a lot and I had to stay at home for quite some time both times but thankfully I never needed surgery.Β  I have no problems of letting her do that if she walks in front of me because then I see what’s about to happen but she only does that when Malkolm have found something interesting to sniff on πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

I’ve had rice porridge for dinner today and Malkolm and Alma both had a tiny portion as well. I don’t think it’s especially good for their stomachs since there’s so much milk in it but a tiny portion won’t do much damage to their stomachs. Sara the cat’s stomach is a bit wobbly today so she had to be without.

Β  Β  Β

I need to buy a couple of box traps to place in the cool cellar. There’s a mouse/ mice there that tends to bit of thin stalks from the plants I have there during winter and now I’m getting annoyed. it/ they never eat anything just chops them off and leaves!!! I would like to try and find weasel or ferret poop and put some around my cottage and perhaps indoors where they can come in. There’s nothing more frightening for rodents than weasels or ferrets. I have no idea where to find some, I doubt that Ferrets are sold in pet stores even though it isn’t a specially rare pet. I really don’t want a ferret myself though even it it would help keep mice away πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β

I’m not a fan of horses to be honest but I really like these two. No matter how much my dogs (Alma that is) would sound they still don’t care πŸ™‚

Then again Sara isn’t a hundred percentΒ  when it comes to the litter box, she does however always pee on paper I have on the floor, I could perhaps use that in the cellar? What do You think? I’ll try it next time I find a wet paper on the floor πŸ™‚ It is time for the last cup of tea for the day but I won’t have anything with it, the rice porridge still make me feel full πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

Foggy morning.

As I wrote yesterday we had really thick fog last evening so I expected I wouldn’t see much when the dogs and I was outside just before going to bed. We had a clear sky and absolutely no fog what so ever, so I must admit I was a bit disappointed.

Β  Β  Β

The first thing I did after I had woken up was to see what it looked like out there and the fog had returned πŸ™‚ plus it was below 0C (32F) so it felt a bit nasty chilly to be honest πŸ™‚ We went out to the bog and it was absolutely quiet and no wind. These last days I’ve heard spring songs from birds, the only thing I heard today was a couple of Ravens when they passed above us.

Β  Β  Β

I went to the supermarket after our walk, I really didn’t need much but I needed to post a letter. A couple of days ago I was offered to see if I had “invisible” bleeding in my intestines so they could catch and cancer in my intestines. I’m not sure if this is because of my kidney, they have started doing tests for all kinds of things when we come to a certain age, free of charge of course. It could just be a coincident and of course I did what they asked for. Just as well check the entire system when I can πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

Anyway, I went to the super market and was just going to buy some milk and perhaps something to have on my sandwiches. So I came home with a small kitchen assistant, they are already displaying everything christmas there now and I guess this is seen as a christmas present. It was really cheap and online it would have cost almost twice πŸ™‚ So I’ve already used it today to bake a loaf of bread that now is in the oven. This was my christmas present to myself this year πŸ™‚ I can’t remember the brand right now but the reviews are good, I really should check something like that before buying anything πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

Besides that nothing much has happened, the fog stayed until I came back home after the supermarket and after that it has just been grey and dull. I don’t mind really, I didn’t have anything planned and we have been outside in the garden every now and again.

Β  Β  Β

They have made an update on Windows Photo program and it annoys me so much. Windows wants me to upload every photo to the one drive app up in the clouds πŸ™‚ I refuse that so then they make it harder with the downloading. It creates a folder by itself and put all photos in that, the problem is that it’s impossible to find again!!! So I need to move the photos from that folder to one I’ve made to be able to find them again πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Also anything from my wildlife camera doesn’t show up when I try to download it to the blog?!!! I now must download it to YouTube and then download it here. Nothing exciting so far, just a couple of Roe deer passing by.

Β  Β  Β

It is time for that last cup of tea for the day and a slice or two from the new bread πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

We had some fog in the morning, according to my camera this was taken 8:04 am.

Yesterday I prepared myself for having to say goodbye to Nova, she had huge problems walking up the few stairs to the entrance door in the evening and she hesitated to try and get up to the bedroom so I had to help her, she also had problems with her balance in her back legs. This morning she didn’t want to get up from her bed at all so guess if I was surprised when she suddenly came down skipped around and had no problems what so ever with any stairs πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

I’ve noticed that every time she has been in the dog yard she’s always worse the rest of the day and I’m pretty sure that’s because she refuses to stay in the comfortable dog house and instead has to wriggle her way in to the garage. So from now on if I’m only going to the store or not be away for a whole day she’ll stay in the cottage. It can’t be a good thing to wriggle around when one is that old and she already has problems with her legs πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

So she had no problems what so ever on our morning walk, sometimes she walked behind us and sometimes ahead of us πŸ™‚ Alma however took a step or two back and was quite a pain in the a..e almost the entire way πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I still think she has behaved a lot better on our walks lately so I’ll see this as a temporary setback. It is much more noisy in the forest now when almost all leafs have fallen off, leafs are terrific sound dampeners during summers. Today someone was working with a wheel loader somewhere and that winded her up a bit.

The beavers must be back again, the water level is so high now but after a tube where the water flows beneath the gravel road it’s very low instead.

Β  Β

We haven’t had the nicest of weather today, still no wind and no rain but really grey and dull. It made me sleepy so some time during the day I fell asleep in the recliner with a kitten by my side and I have no idea for how long I slept πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I think it was for too long though because I’m still tired πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I really can’t complain about the weather to be honest, we’ve had unusually much sunshine and it has been unusually warm as well but now they say it’ll turn towards colder again, I’m not looking forward to it but as long as it doesn’t snow I’ll just keep on smiling πŸ™‚

This side has a high water level but
it’s really low on the other side of the gravel road.

Β

Have a great day!

Β  Β  Β

A belated birthday present :-)

I wouldn’t say that a storm passed by today but the wind was hard and it roared when it blew through the forest. My garden was totally wind free because my neighbors cottage took it all and it was surprisingly calm in the forest where we walked, the tree tops swayed but very little reached us on the ground. Warm winds though so it has been rather nice to be outdoors and now there’s only a few walnuts left hanging in the walnut tree.

The last of the bright colors are blowing away, I wonder how much that will be left tomorrow.

Β  Β

Even though it is much warmer than usual this month winter is still closing in on us unless we get really lucky and it stays autumn until spring. I know it isn’t a good thing but I admit that I won’t feel sorry if that happens πŸ™‚ Anyway, here in Sweden we have a law that says we must have winter tires if it becomes winter. My cars tires weren’t good so on Wednesday I’ll get new ones and even though I like that we have that law I still don’t want to pay for it, it will cost something around $ 700 US. Ok I drive gentle so the tires will last for long but it still hurts πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

Yesterday friends I haven’t seen in well over 24 years came for a visit πŸ™‚ It was so fun to meet them again πŸ™‚ We do keep an eye on us via Facebook but it isn’t the same to be honest. They gave me a present since I now am 60 years old and it was one in a series ofΒ  children’s book πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I love that series of books! It’sΒ  about these characters called Pettson and Findus (another English name for them is Festus and Mercury), an old farmer and his cat Findus. I’ll give You a link to the Wikipedia site: Pettson and Findus . They think that I reminded so much of Pettson πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ and I really wish I was as handy as he is πŸ™‚ I think this might have been the best birthday present ever πŸ™‚

Β  Β

The weather will calm down during the day tomorrow but get worse again later in the evening and night so I think I better go to the store tomorrow since I’ll get the new tires on Wednesday. It sounds as if I’m stressed and can’t find the time but that’s far from the truth πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ It’s good to have something to do each day. It is at least easier to remember what day it is πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

The dogs are sleeping here on the upper floor and I think the cat sleep in my recliner downstairs. She might be up here as well but she moves so quiet so I never really knows where she is πŸ™‚ The only time I know where she is is when I bring out food, it is amazing what that cat likes to eat, like pickled cucumbers πŸ™‚ not even the dogs like that and if she gets a tiny piece of cheese she bites me till she gets it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

It was there just for a second, then it was gone again.

Β

Sunny and warm today, it did feel like an early summer day with a lukewarm wind blowing as well. I wasn’t sure Nova wanted to follow us on a walk today because yesterday I was pretty sure she wouldn’t last till today. It was tough for her walking up stairs or even get up from the dog bed.

Β  Β  Β

Today it was quite the opposite She was the first one out jumping the stairs as if she was young again and really enjoyed our walk πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The only time she wasn’t happy was when I vacuumed the floors, she hates the vacuum cleaner and for good reasons because she was severely abused as a puppy when they hit her with the tube and scared her and her siblings almost to death with the machine on. She does accept that I do it but isn’t happy about it, that’s why I usually use a cleaning brush most of the time.

Β  Β  Β

Now the sun rise so late that I can’t say we went out in the early morning πŸ™‚ we did however go out as soon as the sun had risen above the few clouds we had in the sky. We walked out to the bog and on the way we could hear people shouting over at the castles grounds. At first I thought someone was shouting after their dog but then I hear the shots, they were hunting. So instead of going down to the creek we went out to the bog. No moose flies today thankfully but lots of small dragonfly relatives, they are really small but still beautiful even though they doesn’t seem t have any colors.Β

Β  Β  Β

When we had been out there for a while we slowly walked back homewards. It was time to continue with what I do with Alma now to try and calm her down (so far so good even though all the shouting from the hunting party had stressed her up quite a lot) so we stopped and everything worked as I hoped. That’s when I looked up and ahead of us when a fox slowly walked in front of us. Not even Alma made a sound oddly enough. I picked up my camera, took one photo but didn’t have any time to adjust it and then the fox was gone. To be honest I do think that photo turned out amazingly well πŸ™‚

Β  Β

There it was, just for a second and then it was gone again.

The hunters, well those who shouted to scare the animals towards the hunters anyway, came a bit too close, I think they went over to the wrong side and if they do and are being found out they can actually be seen as poachers, by scaring away animals to be hunted on their area so there’s less animals for other hunters. They could of course have permission but I doubt that. We walked homewards slowly just to be able to enjoy the wonderful weather we had. After that they day has been relatively calm and I’ve baked some french rolls plus the vacuuming, a tough day πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

It is time for that last cup of tea for the day, watch some tv and then bed.

Have a great day!

Today I realized to my very big surprise a big bud on one of my Paphiopedilum hybrids (slipper orchids)! That almost never happens for most of us. I must have done something right for once!

-3,6C (25,52F) outside this morning according to my thermometer. A tad chilly but since we didn’t have any wind and the sun was rising it didn’t feel that bad. I had hoped that they had removed all cattle from the big field/ pasture but I could see that there was still just as many left as they had moved yesterday so we had to walk back and walk in the village instead. Unfortunately we met a huge tractor carrying all the food to the bulls and after that and of course when we passed lots of half adult cows in another field Alma behaved like crazy. She isn’t afraid, her tail shows that clearly but she gets excited and then can’t calm herself down and I can’t calm her down either.

Β  Β  Β

Besides that though we did have a nice walk but if any villager on the other side of the village saw us they must believe I hate her πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The rest of the village knows what she’s like though and most people feel sympathy for us both πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Just imagine to walk with a dog whining a screaming constantly for well over an hour on every walk and then have no way to calm her down πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Then here at home she’s absolutely amazing! She even gather the other dogs if I ask her to and then bring them to the front door. She makes sure Nova is ok all the time, plays with Albin, keeps an eye on Sara the cat and also always check on me that I’m ok but as soon as we go outside the garden with a leash on she starts whining and screaming, once she even started to howl πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

I haven’t done much todayΒ , not even dinner but I have actually dome some of the laundry. I have loads left but I thought why not take a little at a time. I don’t have a big washing machine because I have no space for one, my bathroom is tiny but I do have one made for campers/ mobile homes. Works really great but it is what I would call a manual washing machine. I have to decide how warm the water is so I usually put in the same temperature as when I shower and then open the tap for cold water to rinse it all. Not especially hard but it is annoying sometimes πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚Β  So when I do the laundry I need to think about what I put in, one or two heavier things and the rest light things and so on πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

Yesterday evening when we went to bed I could hear Sara the cat miaow loudly from downstairs. I called for her to come up but she didn’t, well You know cats πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ She still wasn’t with us when I woke up and must admit that it was nice with a night of undisturbed sleep. I couldn’t find her when we came down either so I called after her and I could hear here but not figure out where she was. I became a bit worried because we had just been outside and I thought she might have escaped and now was outside in that cold temperature but I couldn’t find her there either. Turns out that I had locked her in the cool cellar all night, she must have went in when I for a second had opened the door to place a potted plant on a shelfΒ  just inside the door. So now I check the door every time we go outside she she doesn’t follow πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β

Β

It is time to have a last cup of tea for the day and I’ve bought some candied ginger, dangerously yummy that I think I’ll have some of πŸ™‚

Β

It takes a lot of energy to biting my hand all evening so a nap was needed πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

They moved the cattle.

You know that when it looks like this on the ground just after the sun has disappeared that it most likely will be misty the next morning.

Morning mist, then sunshine quickly vaporize it for thick fog to roll in and stay for quite some time just to be replaced by warmish weather and lots of sunshine. I was surprised when the thick fog came because the air had become rather warm by then. It did roll in from the bog though so I guess it must have been cold out there. I liked it though and we did have plenty of time in the garden when the sun finally won that battle.

Β  Β  Β

WE walked in the village this morning and for once Alma seemed pretty calm, yes she did whine and shout some in the beginning but then seemed to get bored doing it πŸ™‚ Then suddenly all the cattle started to bellow and really loudly plus I heard what I thought was a car honking the horn and then a few more but could not figure out what was happening. Turns out it wasn’t cars but four wheelers and they were moving the cattle from the big pasture to their winter pasture. We met them just as they were going from the big one over our gravel road to the winter one.

Β  Β  Β

I really can’t be angry that Alma started with all her sounds even louder and I can’t be angry that she had problems calming down after they had passed either but that dog can be really loud πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So I think that I from now on can have walks in the big pasture from now on. It’s actually several pastures combined to one big, so they can make it bigger or smaller depending on what they need to do. It’s hard to believe but our walks can be as long as 10 km (6,2 miles) and I still would be able to see the village the entire time, well the few homes there is here anyway.

Β  Β  Β

If I can figure out if they moved the entire heard we might have a walk there already tomorrow, would be great because then we wouldn’t have to pass all the dogs being outside barking when we pass them and then Alma would be much calmer, at least as long no lorries pass on the big road beside the pasture. Big road is a bit much to call it but they do drive lorries there quite often. The drivers use it as a short cut to towns and cities further south and I can tell You that it isn’t fun to meet a timber lorry in high speed on that winding road because they almost always use a big part of the meeting lane as well when the road turns.

Two dogs are sleeping in my bedroom, one in the basket, I can’t see who because it’s dark in there now but my guess is that it is Alma and Malkolm is in the bed, probably with Sara the cat. Alma isn’t too happy about the cat since she keeps her awake most f the night πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Malkolm just ignores here and then the cat walks over to Nova to sleep beside her for the rest of the night πŸ™‚ Nova is too old to be bothered by anything now days πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I think it is time for a last cup of tea for the day. I bought a jar of pickled cucumbers yesterday and I do like that but I’m not hungry but still want some cucumber so I think I’ll have a hard bread sandwich so I don’t eat it straight out of the jar πŸ™‚

It would have been nicer if it had been spring :-)

Grey and dull as predicted today and not especially warm, 10C (50F). No wind though so it could have been worse. If this had been in spring time I most likely would have thought this was pretty nice and warm πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

We walked down to the creek instead of the village today, no hunters were out and the fun thing is that I saw moose tracks on the gravel road and by the look on them they weren’t more than a couple of hours old πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Still I don’t think they are allowed to shoot more than a calf and there were no small tracks that showed that there was any calf around anyway but now they don’t have any new story to tell while sitting by the fire after a day of being out hunting πŸ™‚

We did have a nice walk because Alma did finally calm down. She didn’t like all the cows in the pasture just after we had passed the creek though, they were anything but quiet and have been quite loud now for over three days, I wonder if they have removed all the calves because cows do call out for them over a long period of time after they have taken the calves away and I always feel sorry for them.

I think I might have seen who I think is Sara’s mother today, the distance was too far and I only saw the cat for a few seconds but it did look like her. She was walking on the road close to the old stable, then Malkolm came a bit too close and she ran away, probably inside the stable. I’ll keep my eyes open every timeΒ  we pass the stable because it would be nice if she still is hanging around here and not have been taken by a predator.

The electric wires were hanging across the road so I had to remove them quickly because

the entire gang were on their way towards us πŸ™‚

The afternoon has been a rainy one. So I baked some french rolls. I can’t complain about the result πŸ™‚ The odd thing is that one actually can cut them in half without destroying it while it is warm, even normal bread are usually impossible to cut when it still is warm. So the cheese melted nicely when I did that πŸ™‚ It is time for a last cup of tea and perhaps another french roll πŸ™‚
