Plum, satsuma and apple jam :-)

b (1)
Troll butter.

It was supposed to be cloudy all day here so I wasn’t the least surprised that we’ve had sunshine for most part of the day. Ok there has been clouds but the sun has had long periods of shining through. It has been fairly warm as well, 17C (62,6F) so the radiators have been turned off and the kitchen door has been open quite a lot.

My winter apples that usually aren’t ripe until the middle or late October are already ripe and quite delicious πŸ™‚ I got lots of plums from my neighbors and I realized that I wouldn’t be able to eat them all before they would go bad, not many plums last for any longer period of time I’m afraid. So i cored them out and put them all in the blender. I almost had enough for a big jar but added one of my apples and two satsumas as well πŸ™‚ The apple makes it easier for the jam to harden and I could have used lemon juice but why not use satsumas when I have lots πŸ™‚

I also added some cardamom because that’s my favorite spice when it comes to sweet things :-)The jam turned out really well so I’ll have some of it on my pancakes tomorrow πŸ™‚ Alma almost behaved on our walks today. Now when she pulls the leash she only pulls it forward and in a steady pace so it’s easier to keep control of her. She also almost only shouts like insane as long as we pass the neighbors cottage and later on the Beekeepers cottage, after that she only whines a lot but at least rather quietly πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ She still can’t concentrate on anything for more than fifteen seconds though, I’m pretty sure she has some kind of dog ADHD πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I almost always bring a plastic bag with me on our walks now so I can pick those mushrooms growing on or just on the side of the roads we’re walking. It may look like much when I come home but after frying them there’s very little left πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ My favorite mushrooms to photograph though are the Red Toadstools. Over here we have plastic ones as decorations in our Advent candlesticks πŸ™‚ so when I see the first ones looking up from the ground I start to think of Christmas, almost as early as the advertisers πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

We aren’t supposed to have any sunshine tomorrow so i guess we’ll see quite a lot of the sun πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ They’re also guessing that we might get some rain. The coming week will be chillier and we’ll get lots of rain as well according to their guessing. We do need rain so I won’t complain too much if we actually get it. I wouldn’t mind if it became a bit warmer than they are guessing but if they are right about the clouds being here 24/7 we will at least not have frost at nights and therefore I won’t have to scrape ice from my car πŸ™‚

It is time to get some hot cocoa and since there’s absolutely nothing I want to watch on tv tonight I might look at a dvd instead. I usually don’t fall asleep when I watch a movie so I will be tired by the time I go to bed πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

Rather chilly.

DSC_0002 (5)

Yesterday was sunny and nice until it was time to drive home after work, the rest of the day was grey and murky. Today the clouds stayed away and we had some nice sunshine when we had our afternoon walk. Not warm though, northern winds made sure of that.

Nothing much has happened here and I guess it’ll continue like that. I have no packages I’m waiting for and can be upset about them being delivered to the wrong house πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Alma sometimes behaves almost well on our walks but not the last two times. It’s strange that she can be so different at walks when she’s quite wonderful here at home. I have to admit though that we do have lots of wild hogs around now so I guess that can be one thing that makes her slightly insane on our walks.

It’s warm on the sunny side.

DSC_0004 (5)

The sun has mostly shined all day but the temperature has barely reached above 13C (55,4F). It does feel much warmer in the house on the southern part of it where the sun hits than it does on the northern side (and I mean indoors). So while I’ve been able to have the kitchen door open for quite some time today I’ve still had the radiator on in the living room where there isn’t any window on the south side of it πŸ™‚

We were out in the early morning and for once we actually saw a couple of Roe deer. Alma went nuts as always but Albin did actually stay quite calm. I did manage to calm down Alma after a couple of minutes but she refused to stop looking at the point where she last saw them πŸ™‚ Too many scents after the wild hogs all around us though so she was still all over the place when we were walking. I brought a plastic bag with me and I did find some mushrooms, not the most yummy but they are perfect if one wants to make a mushroom sauce.

No need to make dinner for the coming week at work today, I did that last week and since I’ve been at home all week I still have it in the freezer πŸ™‚ Today I also tried cooked food for the first time (well unless one counts toast as cooked, it is after all sort of fried) and so far so good πŸ™‚

Economists are surprised that we have stopped to buy other things than necessities much earlier than they anticipated. I wonder why since they’ve scared the crap out of people telling us that electricity and petrol prices will be insanely high the coming winter. Also all the central banks have raised the interest rates to stop the inflation, which has no effect on the electricity and gas prices what so ever, making the living costs insanely high as well for lots of people. So how can they be surprised at all? Of course people will stop buying things they really don’t need when they’re told the coming winter will be as close to harmagedon as possible without actually go through Harmagedon for most people πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

She has been through quite a lot in her life. Her first year she and her siblings were locked in a cellar, beaten and starved. After that she was with an elderly couple who spoiled her rotten πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ and she really deserved that. They had her for half a year and then she moved to me. She has some allergies, a tumor 2 inch long tumor between her right eye and ear removed, she has no cruciate ligament in her right knee but a knee brace and duct tape takes care of that and she’s in no pain. Constant ear infections and one of those turned in to flesh eating bacteria attacking her. The anti-biotics she got was so strong that I had to wash my hands every time I had given them to her. The skin is still hanging loose on the place where she had it. She has also had cancer but is still going strong πŸ™‚

I really didn’t want another dog at that moment, my old Erna had just passed away a month earlier but then the animal rescue organisation who called me and asked if I could take her showed me a photo of her. She looked almost exactly like old Erna but only half the size. Of course I couldn’t say no πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ In the beginning she had this thing of hating hares and if she was unleashed she would run after it and out of my sight (she never caught any though, the hares were just too smart for her πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ ). I never had to worry about her running away though, she always ran back to either me or back home πŸ™‚

One day hares weren’t tyat fun any more and after that She has mostly walked unleashed on our walks. Wild hogs and moose have run close to her several times and she might have looked a bit surprised when it happened but she has never run after them. The only time I demand her to be leashed is when I know there are wolves in the area. She’s friendly to all animals so she would mostly likely go to it and say hi πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ She has always had ear infections and one vet once said that her ear is built to get infections. Now days we’re controlling those infections with steroids and so far it has worked pretty well.

Even though she right now is healthy and strong it doesn’t take much to change that in a dog that is that old, so all I can do is hold my thumbs and cross my fingers and hope it will continue like this for a very long time more πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

Just a normal Sunday.

I think it might be the same piglet that escapes every day πŸ™‚ The photos are from both yesterday and today.

This Sunday has passed like most other Sundays. I’ve done the laundry and dinner for next week at work. Not the most exciting of days but the dinner was mostly made by the slow cooker so all I had to do was to go outside and collect the vegetables and potatoes and then put it all in the cooker.

It has been a rather nice day though. started out a bit cloudy but turned warm enough for me to have the kitchen door open most of it. She has actually behaved pretty well for being her lately. Ok she pulls the leash but mostly just in the direction we’re walking so that’s a plus. She has also started with sort of whining loudly/ howling when we are about to leave for a walk and then the entire way down the road until we have passed the beekeepers πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So now every time she starts I say: Do you want to go indoors and lay down? At first she just looked at me and continued so I dragged her indoors and closed the door and left her there. Ok I didn’t go anywhere but she did get the message πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It is a bit chilly now in the evening though so I have turned on one radiator, the one in the living room. Alma has behaved as good as she can the two latest walks, not shouting too much when we’re walking towards the forest and only pulled the leash in one direction. For being Alma that is more or less amazing πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ We were just about to pass the beekeepers when Salmiak the cat suddenly ran out in front of us and down towards my cottage (I’m starting to believe he does like that on purpose, he might get a kick out of being close to death πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ ) and that was just too much for both Albin and Alma πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ We did manage to come back home without me having a stroke because those two are just too much sometimes πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I was supposed to leave work a couple of hours early today because I wanted to finally buy that document shredder I’ve been thinking of buying for a couple of years now and I wanted to go when there was as few other costumers as possible. I really didn’t want to wait just because people buying new phones never can decide on what model they want to have πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Everything was ok but then they suddenly gave my work friend the day off (without actually telling me, I got to know about it by accident since I heard other people talk about it), the one that is, together with me, responsible for the big washing machine. Fridays are now the day we go through it properly after they’ve finished to wash for the day.

So I had to stay and had a long chat with the one responsible about it. I had said that me going a couple of hours early wasn’t that important but I really wanted to buy that thing now. I said I will stop working with the washing machine if I can’t know if I actually can leave early or take the day off if it all depends on him taking the day off even if he does so after I got the ok for taking time off. For reasons I’m not writing here he has to take days off with short notice now and then. I’m not annoyed about that but I really need to know that this doesn’t happen again. So I’m not really angry about it but I want to make sure it doesn’t happen again, one day it might be something important I have to do.

The first frost!

20220830_060424
The first frost on the car. I had a few photos in the phone that I show today.

We had our first morning with frost yesterday. The temperature sunk to 0C (32F) for just long enough time to give me a sheet of ice over the entire car. I can’t say I liked it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Normally the first frost arrives at September 6 so it came a week early.

This rather aggressive spider refused to be pushed away from the toilets at work πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The body is around four fifths of an inch.

When I’m at work my dogs are in the dog house/ yard or garage. They once dug a hole in the ground to get in to the garage so after that it’s now their indoor yard πŸ™‚ They’ve created havoc in there so I rarely go inside to see what it looks like now days πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The problem now days is that they easily get in there but Nova is old and not especially agile any more so quite often I need to open the garage door to let her out. Albin has never been agile in any way and he’s getting older as well so lately I’ve had to open the garage door for him too.

So yesterday when I came home Alma came out from the dog house (a big part of the wood shed to be honest, it’s so big that I almost can stand straight and I would have no problems having a bed in there πŸ™‚ ) but neither Albin or Nova came out. So I opened the garage door and out ran Albin but I couldn’t find Nova? In this garage/ wood shed, dog house they’ve saved the old outhouse (the old outdoors toilet) and remade it in to a garden shed. and it is sort of built in to the garage. I called after her but she didn’t make a sound, then something on the ground caught my eye.

Turns out that the old lady had dug her way beneath the old outhouse and while doing that pushed the sand behind her blocking the way back out πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I have no idea for how long she has been trapped there but it looked like she has had plenty of space anyway πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So the first thing I had to do was to dig her out of that place and when i finally got her out I blocked the space with an old lawn mower πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The lady might be old but she’s still pretty active πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

We might get up to 80 mm or three and one fifth inches of rain this weekend (or possibly even more, it all depends on where the showers will pass). At the moment we’re having a nice gentle summer rain and almost no winds to speak of. The dogs won’t go outside in it but it’s actually quite nice.

Some will stay for much longer but those who plays it safe move south already now.

No flies were around to annoy us thankfully. Well most of the forest flies are gone but it is worrisome that the moose flies already have arrived. They will usually stay until late October or early November unless the worst night frost that will come is nasty cold. It isn’t that many years ago that we didn’t have those nasty flies here but warmer and especially shorter winters have helped them to survive till next spring. We do have lots of spiders this year though and since there has been plenty of annoying forest flies (but actually not especially many horse flies) they’ve had plenty to eat.

I don’t want summer temperatures for too long so I’m ok with it but I sure don’t want winter to start early either πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ A perfect climate would be a very long and not too cold autumn followed by a not too early spring, I really don’t mind us skipping winter even though that most likely would mean more ticks, horse flies and moose flies πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Sometimes it’s possible that it i a good thing I almost always have to scold Alma for pulling the leash, it would not have been fun to walk straight in to them, especially since the piglets still are quite small. The weekend has been rather nice. Fog a big part of yesterday morning and sunshine in the afternoon. The hunting season has started, they start with Roe deer bucks and it’s usually over after a couple of days. Here the hunters counts how many bucks there are and after that they decide how many they think can be hunted and usually the older and bigger ones are protected, just to make sure the most fit stays so the coming generation of deer benefits from it. No bigger animals are allowed to hunt yet except for wild hogs, they can be hunted all year long as long as it isn’t a sow with piglets.

Still a clear and blue sky and now it’s 29C (84,2F) and I’m not sure if it stops there or will get even warmer. It is too warm for my taste as it is now so I do hope it starts to cool off now instead. They’re saying it will get warmer tomorrow.

Alma decided that she would be a monster on our morning walk so I can’t say I enjoyed it especially much, even if it was just enough cool and no flies were flying around. Ok she had a lot of energy in her body since it was too hot to take walks the two previous days but she really can’t control herself. The second we were at home she changed to that wonderful nice and pleasant dog I rarely see outside my garden. My guess is that she either really doesn’t like to take walks or she loves it so much that she just can’t keep calm.

The two sofas I’ve ordered will arrive here on Monday some time before noon so I had to break down the old corner sofa I’ve had for at least twelve? years. Ever since I got the recliner from my neighbors I’ve left the sofa to my dogs and it was almost sad to see how bad it had deteriorated since then πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The seat cushions had holes in them and one is so bad that the stuffing fell out from it while I carried it to the wood shed (well I need to place it somewhere until I can get rid of it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ ). The two for the back and the smaller one to sit on is now placed in the dog house. Normally I give my dogs my old sweaters and other warm and sort of fluffy things to have in there but every young dog I’ve had here them drags it out into the dog yard, I would really like to see Alma drag these huge cushions outside πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I did actually try to unscrew all screws in the sofa when I was picking it apart but It took just too much time, not that I was in a hurry until Monday morning but it did start to be a bit too warm to do any kind of job πŸ™‚Β  So instead I just broke it down into smaller pieces, yes that was a bit more job but it was a faster way to get rid of it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ It was impossible to clean the floor where the sofa was standing without having to place all other furnitures outside while I moved that sofa around to be able to vacuum there, so it wasn’t a nice sight when the sofa was gone πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I was pretty sure that Bertil and Teodor had done something there and yes they had plus that the dogs had pushed in lots of things too. So first I removed all bigger pieces, then I vacuumed the floor and after that I washed the floor with chlorine. Nothing says clean and bacteria free as good as chlorine does πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I took all the dog blankets outside and cleaned them up as good as I could and placed them on the floor where the sofa had been standing, the dogs aren’t happy and they all tried to climb in my lap in the recliner πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ As soon as the new sofas are in place I’ll start looking after a “new” table and a couple “new” low book shelfs. I have some big oil paintings on that wall so they need to be low πŸ™‚ I’ve looked at where the second had places are in FalkΓΆping and they all have odd opening hours, now I’ll see what the other towns around here has. I did see one table in one of the second hand stores in FalkΓΆping but I doubt I’ll manage to get it inside my car.

I’ve had the front door (towards north) open all morning but now the sun shines there so it’s time to open the kitchen door so the dogs can go in and out as they please. Ok it’s too hot for them to do anything but if they suddenly get a burst of energy and wants to go outside the kitchen door will be open πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

I want a new coffee maker.

The photos are from our walk yesterday.

It is relatively hot here today so we didn’t take any walk after work. The dogs played some while I was watering the vegetables but as soon as they came indoors they just started to sleep where they were and they’ve only changed location because I went upstairs to the computer. It’ll be even hotter tomorrow and the weekend will be nasty.

Work has been good, I haven’t had to be in my old work department today, it is horribly hot there. I had to paint there for an hour or so and that destroyed the entire day πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ We now have so much work that they’ve opened up a third shift, so we’ll be painting 24 hours a day for four days in a row and Fridays we’ll just be working during the day time shift. The ventilation is crap in there so I wouldn’t want to work there at the end of the week because no heat gets out and no cool air (during nights) can get in πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Tomorrow will be my last go home early Friday and I will miss it. I’ve also told the owners I’ll be missing it and that I really don’t like this but the things I do early on Friday mornings must now be done after work on Fridays. That’s not going to happen if I’m going to do it, it will be pure torture to go inside a hot washing machine when it also is hot outside it. Normally one can take the heat and humidity while working in the washing machine because one knows it will be cooler and nicer when one comes out from it. Now it might even be worse outside it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It is time for something to eat and then most likely fall asleep in my recliner. First though I might buy a coffee maker called Don Pedro (well I’ll use it for tea) online. They are really hard to find in stores. It’s difficult to describe it so if You’re wondering what it looks like just search on google for Don Pedro Bodum. There are a few varieties of it so I’ll see which one I want.
