We never see wild life any longer.

DSC_0002

The weather has been rather pleasant today, we went out as soon as I noticed that the sun rose but since it felt a bit chilly I decided to put on the winter jacket. Too bad that Alma decided that today was the day she would stop behaving at all 🙂 🙂 It felt like I was walking in a sauna in that jacket. It felt like I had run a marathon after just have passed the beekeepers cottage and that’s just 150 meter (much the same in yards) away from home 🙂 🙂 🙂

I needed a long nap after that walk and the sun shone when I woke up again. I went downstairs and opened the kitchen door and noticed that while the sun was shining the rain was also pouring down. There was a tine cloud just above us but I didn’t think that it was big enough to pour down that amount of water.

Nothing much else has happened here. We never see much wild life any more because of Almas shouting and me scolding her for pulling the leash 🙂 but we do here a lot of ravens and jays. I guess those are the only birds that manages to be louder than us 🙂 🙂 🙂 I did put down my carnivorous plants in my cool cellar today though, the venus fly traps and the pitcher plants. All north american but not hardy enough to stay outdoors all winter. Well so far it has been much warmer than normal so they could have stayed outdoors much longer but I tend to forget to bring them in before it is to late normally.

Tomorrow will be much the same as always. I’ll wake up early, start with the laundry. After that I’ll make dinner to have at work next week and I’ll use the slow cooker of course. I’ve been really lazy lately so I’ve just made pasta and meat sauce and will do so for the coming week as well. I might change my routine if I would win lots of money in the smaller lottery today (the one where I only 🙂 can win 150 millions 🙂 🙂 The big one didn’t have any winner yesterday so anyone winning it in the end will be filthy rich 🙂 Well to be honest 150 millions isn’t that bad either 🙂 🙂 🙂

I think most of us call this one Christmas cactus now days. Back in the days however there were several different species we had, some flowered in November so they were called November cactus here and the other ones were called Christmas cactus just because they were in bloom around Christmas. Now days they are so mixed with each other that they flower any time of year really. This one used to be clear white but like always they tend to turn pink after a few years.

A nice surprise.

The photos are of course from the folder “For a rainy day”.

I fell asleep in front of the tv yesterday so that’s why I didn’t post anything. To be honest very little happens here at the moment so I would most likely haven’t had anything to write about anyways.

Alma hasn’t tried to escape more than once this week 🙂 She now concentrates her strength on digging a new way in to the garage instead 🙂 🙂 It takes a lot of her energy so she falls asleep every time she comes up to me here by the computer. She always starts to sleep beside me but then moves to my bed, it must be so much more comfortable. Both Albin and Alma stays downstairs and sleeps in the sofas.

I was really surprised yesterday. The ice cream lorry comes here twice a month and only when I still am at work. Yesterday it suddenly came to the village after I had come home, can’t remember if that ever has happened before. Normally it stops up at the farm and those times I have been at home they’ve left before I’ve been able to get up to the farm. This time it drove down our little gravel road, I guess he was hoping that my neighbors would buy some. Unfortunately for him they weren’t at home but fortunately for him (and me) I was 🙂  So I stopped him and bought some ice cream with pistachio flavor 🙂 He said he’ll come down this road two more times before the season is over so I told him not to come to early and stop by my cottage 🙂

I’ve worked with my little hand held chain saw 🙂

Just after I went upstairs to the computer Albin barked by the entrance door and then ran up to me. A little while after I heard something hitting or something lie that the kitchen door. I do hope it is the neighbors cats jumping after moths 🙂 🙂 🙂 Could be a fox too but I haven’t seen any in quite some time.

I didn’t win the one billion one hundred and ninety five million kronor jackpot on the lottery last Friday so I’m aiming on the one billion two hundred and ninety five million kronor jackpot tomorrow 🙂 Since I’ve promised that if I win that much I would give everyone at work (those working at the factory floor, not the ones with their own offices) a lot of money I’ve realized that I most likely would have to move from here. It would be impossible to not be known as the rich one. The risk of waking up one day looking straight in to the face of someone wanting my money would be rather big since no one would know what would be going on in a little cottage at the outskirts of the world 🙂 🙂 🙂 So I thin it would be better to just win the one hundred and fifty million kronor jackpot in the other big lottery we’re having because I’ve never promised them anything if I would win that 🙂 🙂 🙂 (divide with twelve and You’ll have the $ US)

Nothing much has happened here besides we’re now back to standard time again. So naturally I woke up when it was supposed to be 4:40 am but in the real it was 3:30 am. We are supposed to get rid of this time changing but the pandemic delayed it all, most governments were more occupied by other things that to write down their approval on that change. I When they finally do they will have to decide if we’ll keep the standard time or change to summer time all year round and sine we all know how politicians are this can take a decade or two before they can decide that 🙂 🙂 🙂

The Corona virus has hit my work place so several people are at home right now. I do have a sour throat but that could just as well be a common cold. Well as long as I don’t have any fever I’ll go to work. It is time for a cup of warm cocoa and a couple of digestives 🙂

Have a great day!

It works really well.

We’ve had a rather nice day here today. My thermometer says it reached 15C (59F) when it was as warmest. We had sunshine for quite some time as well and that was not predicted in the weather forecasts just a day ago. We went out for our morning walk as soon as the sun rose (that was at 8:14 today, tomorrow it’ll rise at 7:16 because we’ll go back to standard time tonight).

Alma has calmed down quite a lot even though no one seeing us would believe me if I said so 🙂 🙂 🙂 Today however I really didn’t want to have to struggle all those 4,4 km (2,73 miles) we were walking so i attached an old choke collar to the leash. This one actually stops long before it would choke her but is uncomfortable enough so that she stops pulling the leash as much as she usually do. Well she still does pull a lot but not nearly as much as before. It was so nice that for once not sweating like a pig when coming home after a walk  🙂 🙂 🙂

A couple of months ago I bought one of those small and handy hand chain saws. All I had to do was to attach the tiny sword and the tiny chain and then pot on the small cover. My brain has for some reason made it up to be something hard and complex, even though I really know it isn’t 🙂 🙂 Today however I finally did it and it took almost a minute to do it, well one and a half because I put on the chain so that it didn’t saw, just jumped on the branches 🙂 🙂 My work friend told me his father had bought one from a different brand and that it immediately was filled up with saw dust.

Mine didn’t. The saw dust is sucked in to the machine but there’s an exit hole below the chain where it comes out again so all saw dust blew out. I tried it on several smaller trees and branches and it’s really good! I sawed off dead branches from my apple trees so now I’ll be able to mowe the grass there without risking getting stabbed by hard and dead branches and twigs 🙂 I also cut off those big branches on the Hungarian lilacs that sort of had laid down on the ground, old age and heavy snow that fell last winter weighed them down and they never rose up again. Now I’ll cover those holes in the hedge where Alma tends to jump over when she wants to see what the neighbors are doing 🙂 🙂

We might get almost as nice weather tomorrow as we’ve had today, clouds have arrived but will perhaps open up every now and again tomorrow. If it is nice I have a couple of small trees to plant. Two cherry plum trees and one hawthorn and a small sweetberry honeysuckle. I have several sweetberry honeysuckle bushes but since I never remember what variety I have I have most likely been buying the same one and one need two different to get berries 🙂 🙂 🙂 So this time I bought an entirely new one for us so perhaps in a year or two I’ll finally get berries 🙂 🙂  Also the plum cherry trees have a tendency to spread via roots so I’ll need to put down a barrier around them so that the roots just can grow downwards. I’ll most likely just dig down the pots tomorrow and then I’ll have the winter to think about where they should grow permanently.

Since it’s a weekend and I’ll get an hour more tomorrow I’ll take the risk of having a cup of tea after writing here. I didn’t win the 1 billion 195 million kronor winning in the lottery ( depending of the balance between the US dollar and the Swedish krona you can divide that sum with something around 10 or eleven) yesterday but no one else did either so I’ll just win the 1,3 billion kronor winning on Tuesday instead 🙂 🙂 🙂

I noticed that they’d marked this tree with number 17 and really have no idea what that means.
DSC_0067
Then I saw this tree with number 14 on it so I guess they’ve marked individual trees for cutting down. We have a huge debate on how the big forest owners and companies should take care of their forests here right now and like always our “experts” suffer from the delusion that they know better than experts all around the world so they refuse to do the best for both the ones owning the forests , the forest itself and us who visits it. If I remember I’ll write about it tomorrow.

Nova is lying on her back beside my chair and demands belly rubbings. It’s a bit tricky to do that while typing and she also lets out the most horrible farts so I refuse to do any belly rubbing on her right now 🙂 🙂 🙂 She is very picky when it comes to where she wants them, if I miss if so the slightest she gets annoyed and walks away 🙂 🙂

It hasn’t rained in two days and the first thing I do when I come home is to check if Alma has tried to escape again. Yesterday they got their new chewing bones and toys so she hadn’t bothered to do anything. Today those toys and bones were yesterdays news so of course she had tried her best to get out again. So the first thing I had to do was to undo the damage she had done 🙂 🙂 🙂

I guess that Albin getting older and not having just as much energy any longer plays a big part in her tries to get out. Back in the days he was the annoying one with loads of energy and now he has to pay the price 🙂 🙂 🙂 He behaves just as Sune did when I come home from work. Alma is the first one out, then Nova, who after all is the queen of the universe so Alma doesn’t dare doing anything towards her. After that it’s is me going outside and Albin close after.

Alm,a tends to jump towards him and then start chewing on Albins neck. She isn’t gentle either so once I tossed all the water thatw as left over her when Albin  loudly complained about her behaviour. Now days I always show her the water bowl and she leaves him alone 🙂 🙂 After that they tend to play a long time in the garden. I once saw a picture that showed a T-rex, beneath the picture it said German Shepherd up to 24 months of age 🙂 🙂 I do hope she will calm down (hopefully earlier) when she’s 24 months old too 🙂 🙂

The people of Sweden were stupid enough to vote for a right wing government supported by a fascist party. Mostly because they promised that we would get instant compensation for the high electrical bills we’ll get this winter. So today they showed us what they’ll give us. For one thing it will be a compensation for what we payed too much last winter, when the prices were rather low compared to what they’ll be this winter and as best we’ll get those pennies some time next year. Some electricity companies have told their customers to talk to their banks so that they have those extra $ 5000 they might need to pay for the electricity this winter. The compensation we’ll get will stay closer to maximum $ 400 US for a normal house hold. I never can understand how anyone ever can believe a right wing government supported by a fascist party!!

My Black Walnut still has almost all its leafs left. It stands very protected against the winds though so they might hang on for another week. The tree is now almost as high as my cottage.

The rain has been pouring down for two days now. So no walks after work since none of the dogs would follow me outside 🙂 🙂 The grass on the entrance side is now so wet and soggy that not even the dogs will walk there, well walk is the wrong word since sliding in the mud is more accurate.

One really good thing with the rain though is that Alma has stayed indoors in the dog houseand the old garage the entire time so she hasn’t been outside to try and escape again 🙂 She’s quite intelligent when she likes to. She really listens to everything I tell her to do when we’re at home. She studies the weak points in the dog yard and starts to work on them when she has figured out what and how to do it. She however still can’t walk properly when leashed 🙂 🙂 🙂

A13797_003
All photos comes from the folder “For a rainy day”, today was too grey and dull to take any photos. This photo comes from my old Flexaret III camera.

So yesterday while I was working I suddenly got a phone cal from my neighbor and I thought that can’t be a good thing. Either my cottage is burning down or Alma has escaped from the dog yard again. Thankfully it was the latter one 🙂 🙂 🙂 So I had to drive home to fix the place where she had escaped from. The weather was really nice, sunshine, no wind and therefore rather warm.

I’m so glad that Albin actually is a really obedient dog that knows he isn’t allowed to leave the dog yard when I’m not at home because it would have been much harder to find him if he had seen anything moving because he had run after it 🙂 🙂 🙂 I’m never worried about Nova 🙂 Alma spent most of the time with my neighbors and I’m so glad they really love her. Alma is now really good friends with their three year old daughter. They even filmed Almas visit to them 🙂 🙂 🙂 I did go back to work for almost an hour before it was time to go back home again and everyone at work found it hilarious 🙂 🙂

It was a bit slow at work today (no phone calls from my neighbors thankfully). I had plenty to do but time passed so slowly. Days like that sort of stuns the brain so when I went to the grocery store after work I wanted to renew my lottery tickets. Nothing strange but today I really couldn’t get it right. Here when we’re playing the lottery or any other thing like that we must get our identity card or drivers license registred in the machine. I really wanted to give her my license but instead tried with my bank card 🙂 When I finally got it right I thought I just as well renew it for two more times but forgot to say that, so when I was about to pay I thought that it was way too cheap. So we had to re do it again and behind me the queue grew large.

We have an Englishman working at the factory now days, he works the evening shift but we do meet for a couple of hours every day. He has lived in Sweden for around 18 years but he has a little problem, when ever someone understands he’s from England they automatically starts to talk English to him 🙂 🙂 He thinks he’s bad in swedish though so we (are of course no better) all talk english with him 🙂 He sked me where I got my accent from because it does sound as if I’ve lived in England. He knows that I’ve just passed by as best, so I told him that when I lived in Gothenburg we had cable tv and the only channel I watched back then was a channel called BBC Prime. I must have worked all evenings or nights then because I watched Good Morning Britain every day.

Yesterday night I didn’t get much sleep. Nova got some kind of stomach flu and had to go outside every now and again, usually just as I started to fall asleep again. Also at 1:30 am I needed to go to the bathroom myself and after that it was even harder to fall asleep.

So the moose hunt has begun so we can’t take our walks in the forest today (nor yesterday). Well they left pretty early yesterday so we might be able to go there later today but the lovely sunshine will most likely be gone by then. The temperature fell down to 0C (32F) this morning but the sun shone so it was still pretty nice to stand on the kitchen stairs and drink a cup of tea.

I would have loved to take a walk in the village but since Albin and Alma behaves like they do when ever they see anything moving or a cat or dog sitting still it really is impossible to do that any more. They scream and howl and Albin gets so excited that he ends up biting Alma (well once he bit my knee 🙂 🙂 🙂 He doesn’t bite hard, sort of nibbles but if some skin gets caught it leaves a bruise). Then again Alma is pretty though towards him and I do find marks all over his body when they’ve been playing in the garden.

So anyway, yesterday I thought it would be a great idea to walk out in the empty cow pasture just outside my garden. It’s fairly big and usually free from any wildlife during the days as well. Plus I was a bit curious about what walks there at night. Two nights ago Alma (and Albin too for once) barked furiously towards something walking there. It was pitch black so I couldn’t see anything at all. My close neighbors and I wondered if it possibly could be wild hogs. So in we walk and no signs of any pig activity, not even from the piglet that always escapes from his enclosure.

What I did see though was what I call badger paths. Badgers tend to walk the same route every night and after a while they have made clear paths on te ground. So my guess is that it is badgers they’re barking at. We walked around in the pasture a while and went back home again. We did the same routine in the afternoon too. What i didn’t think of the first time we walked there was that there are two metal wires on the ground. I might have gotten caught in one of them but wearing rubber boots I didn’t notice anything. We did however notice it a lot when we went in the second time, there is electricity in them!

Well sometimes there’s a deer in the pasture during the day but this one jumped away quickly.

So when we went back to walk home I wasn’t sure how to pass them without the dogs getting electrocuted by them again. So this time I just dropped the leashes and let the dogs run fast and jump over them 🙂 🙂 No problems at all but I doubt that I’ll be able to make them walk in to that pasture willingly again. I could bring something to cover the wires but Albin and Alma will most likely panic and refuse to walk on what ever I place above the wires. So today the dogs will have to be content with the garden unless the hunters leave early. The hunting group here has two areas not far from each other and they do quite often divided the time between them, half day here and half day there.

The laundry is done and it is time to start making dinner for next week at work. This week I’ll have thick ribs 🙂

Have a great day!!

I’m so glad she stayed in the garden.

I let the dogs out just before going to bed yesterday evening, Albin came back rather soon and just as he was walking indoors I hear Alma bark like crazy and she’s not playing, she was furious. She was at the other side of the garden, barking towards the big pasture but since it was completely dark I couldn’t see anything.

It took a while before she finally felt she had done enough 🙂 I still have no idea what she was barking at but she was still very upset when she went indoors. My guess is that it could have been the piglet that always escapes from his pasture, she really don’t like those piglets. It could also be a moose or perhaps a fox or a badger. No person in their right mind would walk there in the dark, it wouldn’t take long until that person would fall and injure him or her self 🙂 🙂 The thing I was most happy about though is that she never left the garden to try and hunt down what ever it was 🙂

Yesterday was rather nice with lots of sunshine and nice temperatures, today was more murky with misty rain and grey skies. We did see the sun for about ten seconds but that was it 🙂 🙂 Still I don’t mind autumn days like that, they are perfect to just stay indoors doing very little. Well I did the laundry at five am and at two pm I made dinner for next week at work. The rest of the day I’ve done nothing at all. At least I can’t remember doing anything but sitting in my recliner watching something I’m not interested in on tv 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’ll leave work early tomorrow because I’ll go to the optician so we can correct my contact lenses. I should be able to see in long distances since they are progressive but it does feel like they forgot that part when they made this pair 🙂 🙂 I realized that I missed lots of mushrooms when we were out walking because of the lenses, I didn’t wear them yesterday and we walked the same roads and suddenly I saw mushrooms everywhere 🙂 🙂 🙂 (I have those mushrooms in the sauce for my dinners at work for next week 🙂 )

I’m tired and I would love to join my dogs in my bed right now. Too early though, it’s not even seven pm yet 🙂 Nothing but the news on tv that I want to watch and the news can hardly be called uplifting 🙂 🙂 🙂 They’ll report that the price of fuel have risen lots because the temporarily lowering of the taxes are gone, I’m so happy I filled up my car before I went home on Friday 🙂 They’ll also most likely talk about the sabotage on the two gas pipelines going from Russia to Germany and the risk of having a fascist party pressuring the coming government. They can not create a government without that party’s support so they’ll most likely give that part anything they want. This party is the lackeys of Putin and think it is ok to threaten journalists but I guess having the power will excuse anything.

Have a great day!

The cold air hit me like a ton of bricks.

Some morning it feels like it’s just impossible to wake up, this morning was one of those. Then I opened the door to let the dogs out and I woke up in a second, it was -4C (24,8F) and that cold air hit me like a ton of bricks 🙂 🙂 🙂

The rest of the day has been pleasant though. Lots of sunshine and I opened the big door to where I paint as often as I could, it was still rather chilly until the afternoon so the door wasn’t open for longer periods of time though 🙂

But like always clouds started to arrive when I stopped working and even though we did have some sunshine while we were out walking clouds soon covered the entire sky. That will at least keep the night temperatures on a much nicer level and well above freezing point and who could ask for more 🙂

I’m out of energy now so either it’ll be an early night and I’ll go to bed or I will fall asleep in my recliner, I’m pretty sure nothing will be able to keep me awake no matter what I’ll do 🙂 🙂 I might have some red seedless grapes first though, they were on sale when I was in the grocery store today. I do like grapes no matter what color they have and to be honest I can’t say that they taste much different depending on the color, I’ve tasted bigger difference just by eating different green ones 🙂

It’s either me or my neighbors who once threw an apple from our own gardens just beside the gravel road and now it gives the most delicious red apples 🙂 I do hope the forest owner leaves it alone.
