We never see wild life any longer.

DSC_0002

The weather has been rather pleasant today, we went out as soon as I noticed that the sun rose but since it felt a bit chilly I decided to put on the winter jacket. Too bad that Alma decided that today was the day she would stop behaving at all πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ It felt like I was walking in a sauna in that jacket. It felt like I had run a marathon after just have passed the beekeepers cottage and that’s just 150 meter (much the same in yards) away from home πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I needed a long nap after that walk and the sun shone when I woke up again. I went downstairs and opened the kitchen door and noticed that while the sun was shining the rain was also pouring down. There was a tine cloud just above us but I didn’t think that it was big enough to pour down that amount of water.

Nothing much else has happened here. We never see much wild life any more because of Almas shouting and me scolding her for pulling the leash πŸ™‚ but we do here a lot of ravens and jays. I guess those are the only birds that manages to be louder than us πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I did put down my carnivorous plants in my cool cellar today though, the venus fly traps and the pitcher plants. All north american but not hardy enough to stay outdoors all winter. Well so far it has been much warmer than normal so they could have stayed outdoors much longer but I tend to forget to bring them in before it is to late normally.

Tomorrow will be much the same as always. I’ll wake up early, start with the laundry. After that I’ll make dinner to have at work next week and I’ll use the slow cooker of course. I’ve been really lazy lately so I’ve just made pasta and meat sauce and will do so for the coming week as well. I might change my routine if I would win lots of money in the smaller lottery today (the one where I only πŸ™‚ can win 150 millions πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The big one didn’t have any winner yesterday so anyone winning it in the end will be filthy rich πŸ™‚ Well to be honest 150 millions isn’t that bad either πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I think most of us call this one Christmas cactus now days. Back in the days however there were several different species we had, some flowered in November so they were called November cactus here and the other ones were called Christmas cactus just because they were in bloom around Christmas. Now days they are so mixed with each other that they flower any time of year really. This one used to be clear white but like always they tend to turn pink after a few years.

Standard time again.

I’ve worked with my little hand held chain saw πŸ™‚

Just after I went upstairs to the computer Albin barked by the entrance door and then ran up to me. A little while after I heard something hitting or something lie that the kitchen door. I do hope it is the neighbors cats jumping after moths πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Could be a fox too but I haven’t seen any in quite some time.

I didn’t win the one billion one hundred and ninety five million kronor jackpot on the lottery last Friday so I’m aiming on the one billion two hundred and ninety five million kronor jackpot tomorrow πŸ™‚ Since I’ve promised that if I win that much I would give everyone at work (those working at the factory floor, not the ones with their own offices) a lot of money I’ve realized that I most likely would have to move from here. It would be impossible to not be known as the rich one. The risk of waking up one day looking straight in to the face of someone wanting my money would be rather big since no one would know what would be going on in a little cottage at the outskirts of the world πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So I thin it would be better to just win the one hundred and fifty million kronor jackpot in the other big lottery we’re having because I’ve never promised them anything if I would win that πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ (divide with twelve and You’ll have the $ US)

Nothing much has happened here besides we’re now back to standard time again. So naturally I woke up when it was supposed to be 4:40 am but in the real it was 3:30 am. We are supposed to get rid of this time changing but the pandemic delayed it all, most governments were more occupied by other things that to write down their approval on that change. I When they finally do they will have to decide if we’ll keep the standard time or change to summer time all year round and sine we all know how politicians are this can take a decade or two before they can decide that πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

We’ve had a rather nice day here today. My thermometer says it reached 15C (59F) when it was as warmest. We had sunshine for quite some time as well and that was not predicted in the weather forecasts just a day ago. We went out for our morning walk as soon as the sun rose (that was at 8:14 today, tomorrow it’ll rise at 7:16 because we’ll go back to standard time tonight).

Alma has calmed down quite a lot even though no one seeing us would believe me if I said so πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Today however I really didn’t want to have to struggle all those 4,4 km (2,73 miles) we were walking so i attached an old choke collar to the leash. This one actually stops long before it would choke her but is uncomfortable enough so that she stops pulling the leash as much as she usually do. Well she still does pull a lot but not nearly as much as before. It was so nice that for once not sweating like a pig when coming home after a walkΒ  πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

A couple of months ago I bought one of those small and handy hand chain saws. All I had to do was to attach the tiny sword and the tiny chain and then pot on the small cover. My brain has for some reason made it up to be something hard and complex, even though I really know it isn’t πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Today however I finally did it and it took almost a minute to do it, well one and a half because I put on the chain so that it didn’t saw, just jumped on the branches πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ My work friend told me his father had bought one from a different brand and that it immediately was filled up with saw dust.

Mine didn’t. The saw dust is sucked in to the machine but there’s an exit hole below the chain where it comes out again so all saw dust blew out. I tried it on several smaller trees and branches and it’s really good! I sawed off dead branches from my apple trees so now I’ll be able to mowe the grass there without risking getting stabbed by hard and dead branches and twigs πŸ™‚ I also cut off those big branches on the Hungarian lilacs that sort of had laid down on the ground, old age and heavy snow that fell last winter weighed them down and they never rose up again. Now I’ll cover those holes in the hedge where Alma tends to jump over when she wants to see what the neighbors are doing πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

We might get almost as nice weather tomorrow as we’ve had today, clouds have arrived but will perhaps open up every now and again tomorrow. If it is nice I have a couple of small trees to plant. Two cherry plum trees and one hawthorn and a small sweetberry honeysuckle. I have several sweetberry honeysuckle bushes but since I never remember what variety I have I have most likely been buying the same one and one need two different to get berries πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So this time I bought an entirely new one for us so perhaps in a year or two I’ll finally get berries πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚Β  Also the plum cherry trees have a tendency to spread via roots so I’ll need to put down a barrier around them so that the roots just can grow downwards. I’ll most likely just dig down the pots tomorrow and then I’ll have the winter to think about where they should grow permanently.

Since it’s a weekend and I’ll get an hour more tomorrow I’ll take the risk of having a cup of tea after writing here. I didn’t win the 1 billion 195 million kronor winning in the lottery ( depending of the balance between the US dollar and the Swedish krona you can divide that sum with something around 10 or eleven) yesterday but no one else did either so I’ll just win the 1,3 billion kronor winning on Tuesday instead πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I noticed that they’d marked this tree with number 17 and really have no idea what that means.

Then I saw this tree with number 14 on it so I guess they’ve marked individual trees for cutting down. We have a huge debate on how the big forest owners and companies should take care of their forests here right now and like always our “experts” suffer from the delusion that they know better than experts all around the world so they refuse to do the best for both the ones owning the forests , the forest itself and us who visits it. If I remember I’ll write about it tomorrow.

Plum, satsuma and apple jam :-)

Troll butter.

It was supposed to be cloudy all day here so I wasn’t the least surprised that we’ve had sunshine for most part of the day. Ok there has been clouds but the sun has had long periods of shining through. It has been fairly warm as well, 17C (62,6F) so the radiators have been turned off and the kitchen door has been open quite a lot.

My winter apples that usually aren’t ripe until the middle or late October are already ripe and quite delicious πŸ™‚ I got lots of plums from my neighbors and I realized that I wouldn’t be able to eat them all before they would go bad, not many plums last for any longer period of time I’m afraid. So i cored them out and put them all in the blender. I almost had enough for a big jar but added one of my apples and two satsumas as well πŸ™‚ The apple makes it easier for the jam to harden and I could have used lemon juice but why not use satsumas when I have lots πŸ™‚

I also added some cardamom because that’s my favorite spice when it comes to sweet things :-)The jam turned out really well so I’ll have some of it on my pancakes tomorrow πŸ™‚ Alma almost behaved on our walks today. Now when she pulls the leash she only pulls it forward and in a steady pace so it’s easier to keep control of her. She also almost only shouts like insane as long as we pass the neighbors cottage and later on the Beekeepers cottage, after that she only whines a lot but at least rather quietly πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ She still can’t concentrate on anything for more than fifteen seconds though, I’m pretty sure she has some kind of dog ADHD πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I almost always bring a plastic bag with me on our walks now so I can pick those mushrooms growing on or just on the side of the roads we’re walking. It may look like much when I come home but after frying them there’s very little left πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ My favorite mushrooms to photograph though are the Red Toadstools. Over here we have plastic ones as decorations in our Advent candlesticks πŸ™‚ so when I see the first ones looking up from the ground I start to think of Christmas, almost as early as the advertisers πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

The coming week will be chillier and we’ll get lots of rain as well according to their guessing. We do need rain so I won’t complain too much if we actually get it. I wouldn’t mind if it became a bit warmer than they are guessing but if they are right about the clouds being here 24/7 we will at least not have frost at nights and therefore I won’t have to scrape ice from my car πŸ™‚

The election for our parliament is tomorrow and I’m so tired of it now. The party leaders in each party behaves like spoiled kids as soonΒ  as they show up on tv. The worst thing is that the outcome is so uncertain that it most likely will take just as long (I think it was 175 days) to make a government as the last time. There are eight parties in the parliament and since many don’t talk to each other it will be very complicated to form any kind of government.

We have some filters at the huge washing machine at work that needs hydrochloric acid and caustic soda to work. No big problem really because we handle it rarely and when we do we have protective clothes and a breathing mask. The problem is that the containers weigh between 75kg and 85kg (165,3 pound and 187,4 pound) and it isn’t possible to use any kind of lifting device where they are placed.

e (1)
.

e (4)

So I changed four of those containers yesterday and that wasn’t a good thing to do πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The joints in my left hand aren’t happy and neither are the joints in the toes on my right foot πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ My back has some things to complain on as well to be honest so I only stayed for almost half the day at work so the filters could be cleaned. The only reason I’ll go to work tomorrow is because I’m the one who knows what to check inside the washing machine after they’ve stopped painting for the day. We have so much to do now that we work 24 hours a day now and the only time we can really go through the washing machine is on Fridays afternoon.

a (11)

I’ve started two radiators today. The chilly wind really cooled down the cottage and even though I’m preparing for lower temperatures to keep the electricity bills down the coming winter I really didn’t want to freeze now when my joints are acting up πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Sweden is the biggest exporter of electricity in the EU so our electricity should be pretty cheap to be honest but since the EU now is one big market we’re now forced to pay a much higher price because for some reason we must pay when the electricity costs on the open market and that price is founded on what the most expensive power cost at the end of the month. So even if we don’t use especially much natural gas in this country we still have to pay for what the gas costs.

a (12)
.
DSC_0005 (1)
.
DSC_0009 (2)

DSC_0012 (2)

I really can’t understand that logic to be honest. We really should pay for what the energy costs at that speciffic time we used it and since we don’t use natural gas we really shouldn’t pay the price for it either. They are now thinking of removing the natural gas as the price indicator but EU rarely works fast so who knows when that will happen. So now they say that every house owners should have at least $ 5000 US as a buffer to be able to managed the electricity cost. They are also talking about some kind of support so that we don’t have to pay so much for our power but we’ll have our election for government on Sunday so they’ll say anything right now to be honest.

Alma has behaved as good as she can the two latest walks, not shouting too much when we’re walking towards the forest and only pulled the leash in one direction. For being Alma that is more or less amazing πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ We were just about to pass the beekeepers when Salmiak the cat suddenly ran out in front of us and down towards my cottage (I’m starting to believe he does like that on purpose, he might get a kick out of being close to death πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ ) and that was just too much for both Albin and Alma πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ We did manage to come back home without me having a stroke because those two are just too much sometimes πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I was supposed to leave work a couple of hours early today because I wanted to finally buy that document shredder I’ve been thinking of buying for a couple of years now and I wanted to go when there was as few other costumers as possible. I really didn’t want to wait just because people buying new phones never can decide on what model they want to have πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Everything was ok but then they suddenly gave my work friend the day off (without actually telling me, I got to know about it by accident since I heard other people talk about it), the one that is, together with me, responsible for the big washing machine. So I had to stay and had a long chat with the one responsible about it. I had said that me going a couple of hours early wasn’t that important but I really wanted to buy that thing now. I said I will stop working with the washing machine if I can’t know if I actually can leave early or take the day off if it all depends on him taking the day off even if he does so after I got the ok for taking time off. For reasons I’m not writing here he has to take days off with short notice now and then. I’m not annoyed about that but I really need to know that this doesn’t happen again. I had to paint there for an hour or so and that destroyed the entire day πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ We now have so much work that they’ve opened up a third shift, so we’ll be painting 24 hours a day for four days in a row and Fridays we’ll just be working during the day time shift. The ventilation is crap in there so I wouldn’t want to work there at the end of the week because no heat gets out and no cool air (during nights) can get in πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Tomorrow will be my last go home early Friday and I will miss it. I’ve also told the owners I’ll be missing it and that I really don’t like this but the things I do early on Friday mornings must now be done after work on Fridays. That’s not going to happen if I’m going to do it, it will be pure torture to go inside a hot washing machine when it also is hot outside it. Normally one can take the heat and humidity while working in the washing machine because one knows it will be cooler and nicer when one comes out from it. Now it might even be worse outside it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It is time for something to eat and then most likely fall asleep in my recliner. First though I might buy a coffee maker called Don Pedro (well I’ll use it for tea) online. They are really hard to find in stores. It’s difficult to describe it so if You’re wondering what it looks like just search on google for Don Pedro Bodum. There are a few varieties of it so I’ll see which one I want.

Have a great day!

Another heatwave on the way.

Yesterday when we were about to take our walk I saw a shower pass by, it didn’t reach us but I did feel a few drops hitting my arm.

I’ve survived the two first day back to work πŸ™‚ It hasn’t been that hard to be honest and I’m not sure half of us are back yet. When I grew up all industries had the summer vacation period at the same time, four weeks so it was called general industrial holiday.

Suddenly Volvo I think it was decided that we would be able to change that slightly so half of all working in the company could take two weeks earlier than the rest, then the factory would close for two weeks and then the ones that had that earlier vacation started to work while the rest had their vacation. They thought it would be a good idea to only close for two weeks so the production could continue without too much disturbance. Well that didn’t work because they forgot that if only half of the workers were aty work things would move very slowly πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Nowdays it varies slightly, at my work place we can have one week before they close for three weeks or one week after. Also one can work during summer if there’s anything to do if one want a later vacation, so some people only have three weeks vacation during summer and take the last two weeks later if they perhaps wants to travel somewhere. I always take four weeks in the summer and save one for christmas. If we’re lucky those five working days together with the holidays can make that one week up to almost three weeks vacation πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Yesterday was on the cool side, today was more towards early summer warm. Tomorrow will be vacation warm and after that it’ll be nasty hot if they’re guessing right. The weekend will be the worst and Monday as well but they’re guessing it will start to cool down after that. I don’t mind if autumn waits a bit before it arrives but I really don’t want another heatwave again. I guess however that it’s better than what happened in South Korea yesterday. It fell well over a foot of rain during one hour!

Have a great day!

It could have rained a bit more.

DSC_0002

It rained during last night and it was quite nice to step outside when I let the dogs out. We didn’t get especially much though but any drop helps.

We didn’t have any morning walk today because I wanted to go to the pet store and buy that spray that ticks don’t like. I guess there would be loads of them since they like when it’s a bit wet in the grass. I doubt that I would have managed to make the dogs go outside anyway πŸ™‚ I went to the pet store and bought another spray with much the same content and I also bought a sort of collar for Albin. It really smells of lemon and that is a small ticks are said not to like. After that I went to the super market and the last thing i bought was a soft ice cream with tiny marshmallow topping πŸ™‚

The rest of the day has been rather nice, sunny and just enough warm. We only took a short walk since I wanted to see how the spray would work. Last walk I picked lots of ticks from mostly Alma but also Nova directly after the walk and I continued to pick even more until early this morning. It was different when I had sprayed them, so far I’ve picked five in total, three from Alma and one each from Nova and Albin. I’ll continue to check them all evening and I do hope these are all there were.

I think this is a male Adder because it was fairly short and thin. The females carry the eggs in the body and the babies aren’t born until later this autumn, so if it had been a female one it should have been much thicker.

Nova was, as always, walking a bit ahead of us when we were out walking and just before we left the forest I noticed something on the ground. It was an adder. Nova must have walked straight over it but I managed to keep both Alma and Albin away from it. To be honest they never noticed it at all πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The Adder is the only venomous snake we have and as long as dogs (or cats) aren’t bitten in the foot or leg they usually just swell up badly but nothing worse. It’s a good idea to go to the vet anyway because the bite can give infections.

I’ve had two dogs who were bitten by adders and both swelled up badly but nothing worse. They did react with panic every time they saw anything that remotely looked like snake after the bite though. I’ve lived here for 22 years now ans so far I’ve only seen two live snakes (I never saw the one that bit old Erna) and one that was run over by a car. We must have loads of snakes here but mostly they stay in the fields where all rodents live, so I was surprised to see this one in the forest where it is much cooler, especially after the rain. It was still lying completely still when we left it.

It is time for a last cup of tea and after that I need to check the cabbage leafs for butterfly eggs or caterpillars.

Have a great day!
