The weather is anything but boring today :-)

DSC_0045
The Chinese Catalpa isn’t happy about the wind.

I’m not sure if we’re having a storm but the winds are strong and the gusts roar through the forest. The winds even reach my garden and that’s unusual. We had rain almost all morning, except for when we were out on our morning walk, it started shortly after we had come home so I took a long nap while it continued to rain for a couple of hours 🙂

I don’t know why but the strawberries are finally in bloom, very late and the Magpies takes all the berries 🙂 🙂
DSC_0043
I’ve bought two Hardy Hibiscuses. They should be planted in early spring so it has time to establish itself. They aren’t that hardy to be honest so they also need the best spot in the entire bgarden to survive the winters here.

After that we’ve had sunshine, some showers and grey skies so one can’t say that the weather has been boring 🙂 More rain is on the way and it’ll pour down tomorrow plus the wind will stay they say. I really don’t mind to be honest, I can’t do anything outside so I’ll nap instead 🙂 🙂 🙂 Alma is bored though, especially since the little girl next door also stays indoors during this weather.

Nova wasn’t allowed to walk along the creek this morning because we would have been soaking wet after just a couple of steps, so instead I told her that we would continue on the gravel road. She didn’t like that at all 🙂 🙂 🙂 and when I noticed that her knee support had broken and I wanted ti fix it she just refused to come to me, even started to run away from me when I tried to fix it. So the little lady is pretty cranky, has been that all day 🙂 🙂 🙂 Albin on the other hand is sad because I scolded him. If was after we had come home and I had to clean his ear.

I know he hates that but I really needed to do it since he shook his head all the time. I poured in the cleaning fluid and started to massage the ear when he just had to shake his head violently. I really tried to hold him still but he’s strong 🙂 🙂 🙂 Now my entire kitchen is full of oily drops and his entire head is too. He always get sad if I scold him and has continued to stay that way all day. So one angry old lady, one sad old man and one really bored girl have been rather annoying all day 🙂 🙂 🙂

I think I will take one more walk around the garden before the next rain arrives. The coming week will have some rain but it’ll mostly be sunny and around 19C-20C (66F-68F) and that sounds rather nice 🙂 It looks like we’ll have a normal Swedish summer for once 🙂

DSC_0038
I was trying to photograph my Persimmon tree when Alma thought she would be in the photo as well 🙂
DSC_0039
The Persimmon tree to the right seems to like where it’s growing. It stands too close to the peach on the left and it does so because I was pretty sure the peach tree would die already this summer. I sprayed the peach tree with sulfur before the leafs started to grow because peach trees are always hit with curled leaf disease and sulfur is said to be the only thing that can kill that fungi. So I was disappointed when all leafs it had started to curl. To my big surprise the tree started to grow and get new leafs instead of slowly dies as they always do. I have no idea if it is because of the sulfur or anything else but now I’ve started to believe it will survive anyway 🙂 🙂 🙂
DSC_0042
Something that didn’t survive the drought was the App,e rowan. It was sad already after last years drought and this time it couldn’t manage it any more. So now I have a new spot for another tree 🙂

Have a great day!

First week soon to be over.

DSC_0777
Magpies, funny birds but also bl…y annoying 🙂 🙂 🙂 They can terrorize an entire neighborhood and attack cats and dogs and are really intelligent.

The weather has been rather mixed this first week of my vacation. Everything from sunny and hot to a bit chilly and heavy raining. Today is really nice though, mostly sunshine, a nice breeze and around 20C (68F). It was supposed to be like this yesterday but like always our weather service managed to miss that we would have rain almost half the day 🙂 🙂 🙂

DSC_0003
The rain started quite nice on Wednesday
DSC_0008
Then it got worse.
DSC_0011
A little lake was growing by my gate.
DSC_0013
Another one on the back by my kitchen door. It needs to be a lot of rain to create a lake there because it’s only sand and runs down through the sand as soon as it hits, normally that it 🙂 🙂

We’ve gotten well over two inches of rain this week and nature loves it. Well I don’t complain about it either to be honest 🙂 Unfortunately the ticks loves it most of all. After every walk I’ve picked over twenty ticks from Alma while the two others have had perhaps five together. I have no idea why Alma is such a tick magnet but they do seem to love her. Nova decided that we should walk along the creek this morning so I was a bit worried that they all would have lots more walking around on them but to my surprise they had just a few, not even Alma had more than six walking around on her.

Yesterday morning felt quite chilly so not a fly was flying around annoying us.

The weather has made it more or less impossible to do anything outside and it has been perfect 🙂 🙂 🙂 I can’t remember when I slept this much before. The heavy rain day I must have slept well over six hours during the day (mostly with the window open so I could hear the rain hit the ground and cottage, until it changed direction and it started to rain in through the window 🙂 🙂 🙂 ) and I still fell asleep at my usual hour and sleeping all night without any problems. I guess I needed it but have no idea why 🙂 🙂

The flies have calmed down because they’ve now cut down all the grass and made silage balls of it. That always happens when they do that so I guess that flies prefer to stay in high grass instead of trees during nights and perhaps even during days and when it’s gone the flies go to? Well there’s plenty still but not near enough to what we had before. I don’t even bring my mosquito hat on our walks, it’s enough with a hoodie. Alma has calmed down even more now, she still pulls the leash but the screaming when seeing anything move is almost gone! So now days we even see the odd deer again, still hares do make her a bit too excited but we’re working on that. The sitting down until she’s calmed down seems to work pretty well 🙂

I’m waiting for the package delivery car to come. I’ve ordered dog food and I have almost no dog food left so these packages will arrive just in time 🙂 🙂 I’ve just recieved a text message that they are on the way. So anytime from now until 5pm I’ll need to stay at home. Just a few weeks back they changed it to that packages below 20Kg ( 44,1 pound) can be delivered without me being at home but above that I need to be at home to recieve it. I’ve just bought a new kind of food for Alma and Nova because they didn’t really like the one I had and they have been a bit wobbly in their stomachs since we started with it. So today I’ll get one package that weighs well over20Kg and one well below. Does that mean they then would deliver the lighter package while bringing back the heavier if I weren’t at home? 🙂 🙂 🙂

DSC_0806
Nova can be the most stubborn dog in the world 🙂 🙂 I called for her because she went away on her own and to a road we weren’t going to take. She could hear me very weel and she knows the sign for coming back and she just didn’t give a crap 🙂 🙂 🙂
DSC_0810
After around five minutes she slowly came towards us.
DSC_0812
Then she stopped again and just stood there for another five minutes 🙂 🙂 🙂 She finally started to walk towards us again but refused to go all the way and instead went to where we were going to walk but through bushes and high grass instead 🙂 🙂 🙂

Not much in bloom in my garden at the moment but the Creeping Bellflower has opened up. It’s voted to be the worst weed one can get in a garden 🙂 🙂 Here it has to fight with other plants almost as bad as itself so it’s no problem here.

The day started with some sunshine before very thin clouds covered the sky but that didn’t really change much since I could see the sun 🙂 I think the first “shower” I use ” because it wasn’t especially much or shower like but it did rain for a while. It has continued like that until now when we have misty rain and it will continue like this for the coming five days. I don’t mind at all and the temperature has dropped down to 16C (60,8F) and that I really like 🙂

Well I wouldn’t want rain and such low temperature for the rest of summer but for now it’s perfect. The ticks think much the same. I stopped counting when I had picked over twenty from Alma after our morning walk and thankfully just a couple on the rest of us. Nasty animals those ticks! Still not many annoying flies but a gazillion mosquitoes instead 🙂 🙂 Nova decides where every walk should go and today she has chosen the forest. She’s not the one that wants to walk the same path every day, the other two prefers that I’ve noticed.

We’ve taken a long nap today and after that I started to weed the vegetable patch. I’ve had big parts of it covered because I sowed an Asian cabbage. Nothing much happened though so I sowed a winter radish I bought seeds to for a couple of years ago. I have no idea what to do with it except using it in salads but I wanted to try it anyway. So now when I pulled away the cover I noticed that I now have both cabbage and winter radish there 🙂 🙂  I’ll bring back the cover when the cabbage butterfly and cabbage moth starts to fly again. Also the lid to one of my mini greenhouses fell down over the Broccolo seedlings I have, so when the sun showed they all boiled away. I think there’s still time to sow the remaining seeds to get at least some to harvest. The entire plant is edible so I will get something from them if they germinate.

Have a great day!

Nice and gentle rain but we need more.

a (1)
It’s almost impossible to see that it had been raining for a couple of hours when I took this photo 🙂 🙂 🙂

It has been raining since early morning, a nice gentle rain far from what we actually needed, heavy showers would have been much better but I’m happy for what I got. They say we’ll get more rain in the coming week, not enough once again, and it’ll stay cool for a day or so before we go back to warmer again. The temperature dropped from 28C (82,4F) yesterday to 15C (59F) today. It has taken all morning to get the heat out of the cottage, it even became chilly for a while but I closed the doors and windows when I had baked my breads and let the oven stay open after I had shut it off. It was just enough with heat to make it feel rather nice indoors again 🙂

I’ve done my chores for the day except for dinner at work next week. It’ll be a short work week since we celebrate Midsummer next Friday. I’ll make it easy for myself this week. I’ll fry some meatballs, some wiener sausages, two eggs and then pour half a tin of either baked white beans or baked brown beans over it 🙂 🙂 Perhaps not healthy but very yummy 🙂 🙂 I’ll go to the vegetable patch and pick some of the Goosefoot (Chenopodium album) that grows there, works very well as a spinach substitute.

I didn’t win the lottery this week either, must say I thought it was my turn this time 🙂 🙂 🙂 So back to work tomorrow. Ok short week but I would rather have won the lottery 🙂 🙂 🙂 I’ve noticed that I spend much less time in front of the tv now days, instead I surf more on the net. I guess it sort of equals each other out. I mostly blame the hot weather, it has been so hot that it really has been impossible to do anything outside without jeopardizing our health. Still I wish I could have done something else really but I’ve been too lazy to come up with anything else to do 🙂 🙂 🙂

The wind is the same but now it’s raining.

DSC_9046

So if yesterdays weather looked nice from indoors todays wetaher doesn’t and isn’t either 🙂 There was at least no wind in the earky morning when we went out for our walk but it did rain consistently for the entire hour we were outside. To be honest, none of the dogs wanted to take a walk but I forced them because I wanted them to get rid of some energy. The rain did stop and naturally during the time I did the laundry. Almost as soon as I’ve finished it the rain came back 🙂 🙂 During that time I also saw the sun for almost ten whole seconds 🙂 🙂 I wouldn’t mind that much if the wind just could stop blowing, especially since it is just as cold as it was yesterday. The birds doesn’t seem to mind the weather as much though, they sing a bit less I guess but then again lots of them are on the ground eating what ever they can find and it looks like they find a lot.

I did my taxes today and even before I made the car deduction for driving to and from work because I really can’t use public transportation (it would take 150 minutes one way and it takes 30 minutes with a car) I would get a few dollars back 🙂 Can’t remember when that happened the last time With the deduction I’ll get a few more back but since our inflation is insane here that money won’t last for long 🙂 🙂 🙂  Well it’s better than to have to pay back 🙂 🙂 🙂

Around five? years ago I sowed some Gardenia seeds, I’ve tried before but have always failed. This time however I got five little plants and I still have five living even though one really look more dead than alive 🙂 🙂 🙂 Today I found flower buds on the two of them that I looked at!! I also noticed that they were attacked by something, can’t really say what I only saw the larvae or what it was. So now I’ve sprayed them with soapy water. Soapy water suffocates everything insect-wise and I do hope I didn’t destroy the coming flowers by doing so.

I don’t know how much of those spices I would use but they usually like to live on sunny and rather dry places and my entire garden contains mostly of sand so that’s what they’ll get 🙂 🙂 Also bees and butterflies love them and who doesn’t want many of those in the garden?

So a new year is here and I doubt that it’ll be any different from the last one. Well there’s a risk that many will lose their jobs because of a recession but otherwise I’m pretty sure it’ll stay the same. I never have any higher hopes for a coming year and that’s why I never feel disappointed about how it ended up 🙂 🙂 🙂 Over here the year started grey and dull, some drizzle and thankfully some fog. If we won’t have any sunshine I think we at least should have some fog 🙂

It was around here where Albin suddenly started to look behind us 🙂

Yesterday when we were out walking in the morning we walked down to the creek. We walk a lot there now since the dogs still are a bit hesitant to walk out on the bog, even when we just walk out on the peninsula they’re a bit more attentive than usual. So anyway we were walking down the long gravel road to the creek when Albin suddenly started to look behind us. At first just a glance every now and again but then he stopped, turned around and took a long look behind us. I must admit that it feels a bit worrisome when a dog like Albin does something like that 🙂 🙂 🙂 Nova rarely cares about what happens behind us and Alma, well Alma is like she is and rarely notice anything 🙂 🙂

We followed the creek out to the fields and then suddenly Nova too realizes that something is close to us and she starts to hurry. I wasn’t really worried until Alma reacted as well 🙂 🙂 but suddenly instead of looking behind us they all started to look towards our left side. I could never see anything but the dogs were all in a hurry to get home. Later when it had become dark and was going outside in the garden they went to the side of the cottage, sniffed some in the air and went back indoors. I was out there too, with my headlamp on but I still couldn’t see anything out there. We walked the same way today and none of them seemed to care about anything and behaved just like always. I must say though that Alma behaved really well yesterday and today she barely pulled the leash at all. That in it self is a very strange behaviour from her 🙂 🙂 🙂

Besides that very little has happened here. I wasn’t up when we went in to the new year, I rarely am to be honest. I did start to look at the film Murder on the Orient Express but I must admit that it wasn’t as good as I remembered it to be. Mostly I was annoyed about the man playing Hercule Poirot changed his accent from time to time, he’s supposed to have a french accent byt every now and again he did sound more like he came from Italy 🙂 🙂 🙂 So I never finished it but instead went to bed 🙂 🙂 🙂 There are never any fireworks here since we have lots of cattle and horses here so it was almost as quiet as it always is here. I could hear fireworks from a far distance but that was it. I still have a weeks vacation before I have to go back to work and I’ll enjoy every second of it 🙂

A day of relaxation :-)

a (2)
Older photos today, no snow left and no photos taken since we couldn’t take any walk in the forest while we had daylight.

Today has been a day of relaxation, well the previous ones as well but today we took an extra long nap after lunch. The hunters were out for the most part of the day when we still had daylight and it has also rained quite a lot so none of the dogs were outside for any longer period of time. I could hear the hunting dogs every time I went outdoors so I guess they never met any of the potential wolves out there.

I really don’t need that much but seeds for the birds are running low and I forgot to buy gingerbread last week so I haven’t had any this entire christmas, to be honest I haven’t eaten more than a couple this entire December so I feel that is one thing I need to correct 🙂 I’ll also buy some julmust, haven’t had much of that either.

It’s the season to start thinking of seeds again. Either one buy seeds for perennials that needs a winter to start germinating or buy those vegetable seeds one want to grow this summer. I wasn’t that successful with peas but I did get a lot of beans. My white cabbage never became bigger than a tennis ball so I’ll sow some other kind instead. The lettuce however grew better than expected but then again lettuce isn’t especially hard to grow, they don’t like hot summers so spring or early autumn usually works perfectly. So far my Pawpaws look living and healthy and I do hope that if winter decides to come back again that it at least stays just below freezing and not much lower, they are still really small and need a few years before they manages our rather long dark period during winter.

The rain has been pouring down for two days now. So no walks after work since none of the dogs would follow me outside 🙂 🙂 The grass on the entrance side is now so wet and soggy that not even the dogs will walk there, well walk is the wrong word since sliding in the mud is more accurate.

My neighbor is out chopping fire wood. For some reason sandy ground lead the sound really well so I can hear it here in my cottage, the sound when the chopped logs fall to the wooden floor in their wood shed sounds really strange. At first it sounded as if someone fired away fireworks 🙂 🙂 For a while I did wonder if the Russians possibly could attack us so I went downstairs and opened the door and that’s when I realized he was chopping fire wood 🙂 🙂 🙂 I can also hear when they use a hammer in their cellar, it’s really odd 🙂 🙂

It would be nice to take a nap but I’m pretty sure that if I do I won’t be able to fall asleep tonight. Then again I know I’ll most likely fall asleep in front of the tv tonight so perhaps I just as well should take a nap 🙂

Have a great day!

Does it stand for Does Not Serve? :-)

I tried to go out on the net yesterday and I don’t think I’ve had such good coverage in many years but still I couldn’t. When my computer tried to locate what the problem was it said that something was wrong with a DNS server. I have no idea what that is but I guess that DNS stands for Does Not Serve 🙂 🙂 🙂

We’ve had a couple of really windy days here, so windy that I had to pick up a work friend on my way to work because he has one of those covered mopeds and it’s so high that he wasn’t sure if the wind would pull it of the road 🙂 🙂 🙂 He lives just beside the road I’m driving on to work so that was of course no problem at all. Well the good thing with this wind is that suddenly the price of electricity dropped to the lowest we’ve had in years 🙂 🙂 🙂 Doesn’t help me because my new contract starts on December first.

I talked with work friends and checked the different contracts they offered me and the fixed price is so high that if I chose that one my electricity bill would rice with 400% (it would be around half a US dollar per KWh). I could also chose the price by the hour and try to live my life after how the prices went up and down. One could say that if I wanted to use more electricity for something I would have to do it at night when the prices are as lowest, especially at nights during the weekend. Well I tend to like to sleep during nights so that wasn’t really an option either.

So I chose something that can be described day by day or ongoing. I’ll pay for the average price for each and every day. If the prices would plummet I can change the contract already the next month if I want to, the fixed price is for a year. It seems that most people at work who needs to renew the contract will chose the day by day variant. So I’ll check if I’ve won the lottery later today, I think that if I won those 500 million kronor (around $45,5 million US) I would be able to feel safe during at least this winter 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’ve had a rather exciting job at work these last two days. I was standing on a sky lift 6 meters up and spray painting the roof beams in a part of the factory. My brain told me that this is completely safe and nothing to worry about (I have to admit that I volunteered to do this and when I did I don’t think I used my brain at all 🙂 🙂 🙂 ) but my body screamed otherwise 🙂 🙂 Every time I finally had gotten used to it something happened, like the boss phoned me and I really refused to start talking in the phone at that hight, or the spray painter, which is almost as old as I am I think, started to behave oddly. It hadn’t been used in years so when paint mixed with thinner flowed through those old hoses they slowly gave up.

Well I’ve done it by I must admit that I will never do anything like that in my life again 🙂 🙂 🙂 I think that this was a thing where I was too old to learn and enjoy something like that. My work friend who came to help to paint in those spots I couldn’t reach (he’s much longer than I am) is much younger than I am and he leaned over the railing painting well outside of the sky lift, I held on to the beams like my life depended on it 🙂 🙂 🙂

Have a great day!

I’m so glad she stayed in the garden.

I let the dogs out just before going to bed yesterday evening, Albin came back rather soon and just as he was walking indoors I hear Alma bark like crazy and she’s not playing, she was furious. She was at the other side of the garden, barking towards the big pasture but since it was completely dark I couldn’t see anything.

It took a while before she finally felt she had done enough 🙂 I still have no idea what she was barking at but she was still very upset when she went indoors. My guess is that it could have been the piglet that always escapes from his pasture, she really don’t like those piglets. It could also be a moose or perhaps a fox or a badger. No person in their right mind would walk there in the dark, it wouldn’t take long until that person would fall and injure him or her self 🙂 🙂 The thing I was most happy about though is that she never left the garden to try and hunt down what ever it was 🙂

Yesterday was rather nice with lots of sunshine and nice temperatures, today was more murky with misty rain and grey skies. We did see the sun for about ten seconds but that was it 🙂 🙂 Still I don’t mind autumn days like that, they are perfect to just stay indoors doing very little. Well I did the laundry at five am and at two pm I made dinner for next week at work. The rest of the day I’ve done nothing at all. At least I can’t remember doing anything but sitting in my recliner watching something I’m not interested in on tv 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’ll leave work early tomorrow because I’ll go to the optician so we can correct my contact lenses. I should be able to see in long distances since they are progressive but it does feel like they forgot that part when they made this pair 🙂 🙂 I realized that I missed lots of mushrooms when we were out walking because of the lenses, I didn’t wear them yesterday and we walked the same roads and suddenly I saw mushrooms everywhere 🙂 🙂 🙂 (I have those mushrooms in the sauce for my dinners at work for next week 🙂 )

I’m tired and I would love to join my dogs in my bed right now. Too early though, it’s not even seven pm yet 🙂 Nothing but the news on tv that I want to watch and the news can hardly be called uplifting 🙂 🙂 🙂 They’ll report that the price of fuel have risen lots because the temporarily lowering of the taxes are gone, I’m so happy I filled up my car before I went home on Friday 🙂 They’ll also most likely talk about the sabotage on the two gas pipelines going from Russia to Germany and the risk of having a fascist party pressuring the coming government. They can not create a government without that party’s support so they’ll most likely give that part anything they want. This party is the lackeys of Putin and think it is ok to threaten journalists but I guess having the power will excuse anything.
