I woke up at 6:30 this morning when I heard Nova running down the steps, that’s never a good thing to hear. The old lady prefers to sleep until it’s almost panic to get out to pee πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I really think I rushed down the stairs fast enough but she had already peed in the living room. When she does like this she always do it in the same spot so I know where to clean it up. She has done this her entire life here so it isn’t because she’s sick because of old age. She just likes to sleep for as long as she can and probably think it is my fault for not letting her out when she wants to only because I’m sleeping πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So I’ll force her outside late tonight, something I didn’t yesterday because she wa sleeping so nicely and for that I had to pay today πŸ™‚

The weather has been just as boring today as it has been earlier. We didn’t get the fog they said we would but we did get the rain they said we shouldn’t get πŸ™‚ Also I almost saw the sun for several seconds before the gap in the clouds flew elsewhere. Still the morning walk was rather nice, especially since Alma almost behaved today πŸ™‚ She has a high pitched whining that cuts like a knife and today she quieted down pretty early, the pulling the leash idea she has were much less annoying as well. It goes up and down with her behaviour though, some days she’s rather good, other days she’s worse than usual. It can even be worse the second or third walk, one would think that she should calm down when we’re out several times in a day πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I was thinking I would buy myself a terrarium, not to have any reptiles in but the bottom third as an aquarium and the two top thirds for plants. I found one really nice and it does cost a small fortune. The thing is there isn’t ant table that goes with it. I did try to find anything but the tables I did find almost cost half as much as the terrarium and then the small fortune would become a big fortune πŸ™‚ I can’t use any table since it weighs quite a lot. To be honest shouldn’t they also offer some kind of table that fits what they are selling? I became so annoyed that I decided I won’t buy a terrarium πŸ™‚ I will however buy the biggest tin with Quality Street bonbons, almost 3kg (6,6 pound) πŸ™‚

We call these (well the entire bush) for Goat apple. They are poisonous for us humans and I have no idea why they got that name πŸ™‚ If one for some odd reason would eat those berries one would pee red.

So I’ve put up the new bird feeder and I do hope Alma won’t try and take it down πŸ™‚ The House sparrows and the Tree sparrows are so used to me that they don’t care that I stand on the other side of the window. The Big tits however are more suspicious and flies away as soon as they realize I’m there. So I had to turn off the lights in the kitchen so they couldn’t see me as well and then they came to the feeder. I still haven’t seen a single Blue tit and that’s odd because they used to be the third most common bird around my feeders.

Nova wanted to go out to the bog today but when we reached the peninsula we always walk out on she suddenly didn’t want to. Neither Alma or Albin showed any reaction so we continued out anyway. Turns out that someone had been riding there and Nova has never been particularly fond of horses so I guess that was the reason. The weeks when I have a long weekend feels a bit odd. Today was the second day I was at home and it felt like I needed to prepare for working tomorrow πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ It’s around the same time every second weekend, just after noon, that happens πŸ™‚ I guess old habits die hard πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Camellias are picky primadonnas and I really don’t know why I don’t just throw them away, make one mistake during the year and they won’t flower and most likely die as well πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ This one however is at the moment showing lots of buds, it might flower around Christmas if I’m really lucky.

We actually had sunshine for a couple of hours here today!! but since the hunters were out in the forest all the time it shone we couldn’t enjoy it on our walk. Isn’t it typical that the one day the sun shines they’ve decided since long that they should be out hunting πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I really can’t complain about them because I they haven’t been out there especially much this autumn, bit it is still annoying πŸ™‚

Nova is quite angry at me today. Isn’t it strange how a dogs hearing can change so much as it does sometimes? yesterday for instance I very quietly opened a box with toffee and she could hear that even though she was sleeping upstairs in my bedroom. Besides that very little has happened. I’ve made dinner for work in the slow cooker but I haven’t tasted it yet πŸ™‚ I’ve also done the laundry so now after this I’ll bake some bread. The rain is pouring down and sometimes sideways because of the strong gusts we have right now. The dogs refuse to go outside and I so understand them. Also they think I’ll have more of the gluten free gingerbreads I baked earlier today πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The ones one can buy are an abomination towards any living thing, they are actually so awful that not even Albin and Alma wanted any and those two eat any kind of garbage they can find πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I found this recipe online and it is called “The best gingerbread recipe ever”. Well they are really good but I’ve had normal gingerbreads that have been slightly better. Still these are gluten free so I guess it is true for being gluten free cookies. I had to do some changes in the recipe though. It said agave syrup or maple syrup. This recipe is obviously made by a rather rich person because both those syrups cost close to what gold costs πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ It also said Coconut sugar? They do taste really good but it is really important that they stay the exact time in the oven because bring them out a bit early they will be kind of soft and really brittle but the exact time and they’re like any other home made gingerbread. Also the original recipe said 150 cookies and that’s insanely much for a first try, so I halved the recipe and I managed to get 24 cookies. I’m not sure what size they make their cookies in but they must be really tiny πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Anyway, I’ve tried it and can now do these again closer to christmas.

I found another walnut on the ground today but the weather wasn’t the nicest so to look up a tree to find one small green thing amongst the still green leafs made it hard to see if it was the one I’ve been looking at or if this was another one that came from elsewhere in the tree πŸ™‚ It’ll rain a lot these coming days so I’ll check the ground for walnuts instead of looking up the tree πŸ™‚

The morning walk was really nice though, no wind and no rain. No sunshine either but that was to be expected. Well I almost saw the sun for half a minute when a thinner layer of clouds flew by. It looked really nice during that half minute and I guess that is what we’ll be able to see until after christmas, if we’re lucky πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ We might get fog though and that’s my second favorite weather but I don’t have high hopes for that either, the last time they said we would get fog what we got was what could best be called a thin haze. It is time to pack my dinners for the coming week at work. I bought some small pieces of chicken the other day, so I fried them just enough to get that fried surface, I also fried a big onion. After that I tossed it in the crockpot together with water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, potatoes and some kind of Asian cabbage, it tastes actually much better than I thought it would πŸ™‚

Lots of acorns this year.

We actually had quite nice weather here this week, until yesterday when it poured downΒ  most of the day . This morning was rain free but thick clouds covered the sky so it almost felt like the sun had disappeared behind the horizon and that night was on its way. Well now it’s a bit darker and the rain has started to fall. We might get up to 35mm (one and two fifths inches). It all depends on where the heaviest showers will pass.

The bear hunt has started in northern Sweden and at least three people are already injured because the bears attacked them. I don’t know if they want sympathy when talking in the news or to news papers but to be honest, if You actually isn’t knowing how bears react when being hunted, often with dogs chasing them, You really shouldn’t be out there hunting bears. These are often the people who call them selves nature conservationist claiming that they hunt to make sure there aren’t too many herbivores eating too much of the trees and the rest of the vegetation.

Then when nature is coming back and takes care of that problem they go on about those predators taking too many herbivores so there’s nothing left for them to hunt πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I could perhaps respect them if they stopped being such hypocrits. They also hunt foxes because they eat too many fawns but then when they heard that we might have a new predator, the Golden jakal (slightly bigger than the fox and eat much the same things) they started to scream about how it will reduce the ammount of foxes! There is a fun thing about the jackals though, hunters aren’t allowed to hunt them since they naturally have migrated to this country and is natural to Europe. It would have been a different thing if they had escaped from fur farms in Europe and not being a natural habitant in the part of the world.

DSC_1920

Yesterday we had a rain free day!! Not any sunshine but still rain free so we all did those chores in the gardens and on the farms that has been impossible or too hard to do when the rain is falling. I was the one who started the mowing, a couple of hours before the rest. The grass is growing like crazy now and even though I do like my electric mower it sure doesn’t work especially well when it is filled up with long and wet grass πŸ™‚

I think we actually have a couple of real Wild apple trees (their Swedish name is actually Wild apple) Malus sylvestris.
DSC_1916
They are becoming rare, we don’t even know if there are any real left because they cross pollinate with our garden apples. It’s always great to have a real Wild apple tree close by especially if one only have one apple tree because the Wild apple will help pollinating the garden apple. The ones we have a shoots from the old one that grew here when I moved to this place and that tree were old enough to actually be a real Wild apple tree. The apples are really small and mor sour than any lemon πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

The mowing too three times as long because every thirty seconds or so the mower stopped because there was just too much grass glued to its inside. I now have loads of small mounds with wet grass all over the lawn. I started to spread out the grass so it would dry up better but since it is pouring outside there’s no use in doping that any more. The farmers were out fetching those white balls that contains the silage they’ve made from earlier this summer. Also one neighbor was out cutting the grass and flowers along the gravel roads. They normally do that earlier in the season but since everything went late they waited long enough for most of those flowers to release their seeds.

My Bank ID, a digital ID that I must have if I want to buy something online now days (I’m sure You have it too but one never know what it can be called), had to be updated, and I asked people and they said I had to do that in the online bank. I was quite annoyed when I arrived because after all my bank is well known for helping Russian oligarchs laundry their money and I doubt that those people would have to have an international ID card πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Well it turns out that I really don’t have to have anything new because all I needed to do was to update the app in my phone πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The young woman who helped me had gone through this a lot of times πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I still have no idea why the online bank said I had to have those things but I think that it had to do with newcomers to this country who aren’t citizens.

I came home just before one of the angriest thunderstorms we have had here in years arrived. The Lightning app said that we had well over 800 lightning hits in and around this village during 30 minutes! I can’t remember that heavy showers falling either and the sound from the rain was so loud that I couldn’t hear the thunder at the same time. I loved it, Nova and Alma slept through it and Albin was so angry because I didn’t allow him to go outside to check what it was that made so much noise πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I did open the door for him when the thunder had moved away some but the showers still were just as heavy and then suddenly it wasn’t that important to go outside after all πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

After that we’ve had sunshine for a while but now it’s just as cloudy as before and the lightning app has warned about lightning in the area again. I think the worst is over but perhaps it’s best to close doors and windows again just in case.

Have a great day!

Lots and lots with rain.

So after this weekend I’ll only have one week of vacation left, well until Christmas time when I’ll use my last week. We have no holidays at all until then so I really hope I’ll like working evenings again. AI’ll at least get fewer hours to work with slightly more in pay but I still don’t look forward to work evenings. Still I’ll have a job so I won’t complain too much.

This week had been rather chilly and we’ve had so much rain that I haven’t had to water anything out in the garden. I really didn’t mind that much but some of those showers were so bad that I thought much of what’s growing in the garden would break. That didn’t happen but I still hope that the coming rain next week will be less heavy πŸ™‚

Nova decided that we should walk in the forest this morning. She went out to the peninsula in the bog and I hoped that there would be lots of fog because we had fairly thick fog everywhere else. I was sort of disappointed because there was almost no fog at all. We hadn’t been out there for especially long when the dogs suddenly wanted to walk home again and they seemed to be in a hurry. We hadn’t walked far when we heard the deer “barking” around the place we had been at so my guess is that a wolf must have arrived.

It was while standing here the dogs suddenly wanted to hurry back home.

I read an article that most dogs when smelling a wolf nearby reacts just like that, they want to leave unless they are terriers because they want to attack πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ but as the article said since they were so aggressive towards wolves the wolf would most likely run away even though they were so small. Well one terrier didn’t react like that and that was the Amstaff, Albin really doesn’t like other dogs and would love to be able to attack but as soon as he smells wolf he reacts just the opposite πŸ™‚ and I’m glad he does πŸ™‚

I haven’t been able to do much because of the rain but I have weeded (well to be honest that sounds a bit lame because I used spades and secateurs to get rid of what was growing there. I used to have blueberry bushes there but all the sand that I dug up while doing the root zone had to go somewhere and that was the best and closest place to put it. I did find three blueberry bushes still in there amongst the high grass, wildflowers and grapevines though πŸ™‚ I let the blueberries stay and added some peat around them. After that I placed all the pots with the apricot seedlings and some citrus trees there but couldn’t stop myself from planting the seedlings I had this year. I have even sowed some seeds from perennial Hollyhocks and they’ll look good already next year . I also found lots of things I forgot I had placed there before the weeds and grass started to grow in the sand πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

This is the after photo. The angle of the photo make the place look smaller than it is but it is around 4 square meter (much the same in yards).

I also placed the rubber sheet from my old pond over all those shoots from the thorny sloes, roses and the false spirea.
DSC_1244
I’ve “pruned” (with big and heavy tools πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ ) the Rowan tree that grows beside the plum tree. It sowed itself and I like it but it was starting to push away the plum tree plus it was so dark and dry on the ground that almost all ferns that grew there had died.

No all the plums will get sunshine and ripe nicely πŸ™‚

It is time to have something to eat and after that I have no idea. Nothing worth watching on tv so perhaps I’ll start reading a book?

Have a great day!

Much the same weather all week long.

We haven’t had much rain this week, a shower now and again. The weather has been very much the same each day though, lots of clouds, sunshine in between. Rather chilly when cloudy but really nice when the sun shone. One day it did reach above 20C (68F) but mostly it has been lower than that. Sunshine in the early and cool morning so not many flies or mosquitoes annoying us while having our morning walk.

The Norwegian site says it will be warmer than the Swedish one but then again they say we’ll get more rain. I looked at the weather sites early this morning and none of the sites said rain tomorrow, they do now. So I sort of regrets that I didn’t mow the lawn today while it was quite windy and the grass was dry. Well we know how great they are in predicting the weather over here so it might be sunny and warm all day πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I have gotten the carpet/ furniture cleaner but I haven’t tried it yet. So I guess I’ll try it tomorrow if the rain actually arrives. I think I’ll start with something not as thick as the big cushions I have on my sofas, they will after all have to dry up before I can put them back on the sofas. I have a couple of those thin mattresses on my bed, I can easily sleep one night without one of them.

It was quite nice when we were out walking early this morning. No wind but cool enough so that most flies stayed calm, at least until we came closer to home and the sun had warmed up the air. Nova decided that we should walk along the creek again. We have lots of morning dew here right now and there’s a lot of relatively high grass along that way so we were soaked by the time we came home. What surprises me each time we’ve walked there is how few ticks I need to remove from the dogs. It should be tick paradise there and lots of animals full of ticks walks there as well but each time I go through the dogs there are just a few. Well I can’t say I feel sorry about that πŸ™‚

Nothing much is happening in the garden right now. My Persimmon seems to do very well, my Pawpaws grow and look healthy and so so my Ginkgos. The English walnut still grows but it is hard to see it since the plant in front of it is so big that I barely can see it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The last two Nectarine kernels that I’ve had in and out of the fridge finally started to germinate this week. Mostly it’s enough with one round to the fridge to make them start but these two needed several times in and out. I think that means that they come from a tougher area (climatewise) and that their spring can be as treacherous as ours, like really warm and sunny in early March but then full blown winter in April πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The Apricots are growing fine and the biggest ones are now over 30cm (one foot) high.

I’ve planted one of the Cherry plums on the north side of my cottage, close to the gate. I’ve put a bottomless tub around it so that the roots can’t spread and give new Cherryplums. I’ll plant one on the other side of the gate when I can find another tub I can remove the bottom from.
