I’ve started to remove the lawn.

DSC_0002 (9)
Do You remember that big old crabapple tree that grew outside the dog yard but fell down in a storm a couple of years ago? Root shoots from it have now grown so big that they’ve started to flower.

I woke up pretty early this morning, let the dogs outside and saw that everything still was pretty wet after yesterdays rain. So as soon as they had come back in I went up to bed and slept for an hour and a half more πŸ™‚ Really nice and the dogs didn’t seem to mind either πŸ™‚

The day has mostly been cloudy, sometimes there’s been a gap between clouds so that the sun has reach us down on the ground. No rain really but the occasional drop has fallen every now and again. I did hang out the laundry to dry because an occasional drop doesn’t make much difference. The humidity has been rather high though, 88%.

I’ve started to remove the lawn where the potato patch will be, so far I’ve removed perhaps a quarter of it and I’ve also planted three mini kiwi vines (I think they also are called hardy kiwi vines). I’ve done enough for the day I feel so I’ll continue to remove lawn tomorrow. The parts I’ve removed I’ve started to cover lots of stinging nettles. It won’t stop them from growing but it will at least slow them down a bit. Stinging nettles are an indicator plant, they only grow where there’s lot of nutrients, especially nitrogen, in the ground. I hate stinging nettles no matter how useful they are but I refuse to get rid of my dogs who are the source of all that nitrogen just to get rid of the nettles πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It looked like the frost took those tiny peaches that grow on my new peach tree but that might not be after all. The peaches are still there and they aren’t soft as they would be if the frost had damaged them. The color however is towards brown but perhaps that is what is supposed to as they grow? I do hope they hang on so I at least once can have a taste of my own peaches πŸ™‚ I’ve also ordered another apricot tree. Unfortunately I had to order from the same place so lets hope they’ll do it right this time, there’s only place for so many trees in my garden and one peach tree is enough, especially since I never wanted one in the first place  πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Nature loves this weather though so I’m not complaining too much. I’ve done very little today, I’ve taken a long nap and I’ve made pancakes πŸ™‚ I just bought 32 eggs from a work friend, just in time actually because the day after I got them a fox found its way in to the hen and killed all but five of them. She knows it was a fox because it was still standing there when she went to clean up in the hen house. Well foxes need food too.

The showers never passed above us here so we didn’t get that much rain but then again it’ll rain all weekend, perhaps no showers but I’m pretty sure we’ll get enough to fill up my water barrels. We walked down to the creek after I had come home today and I must say that Almas behaviour has improved a lot. She still pulls the leash and she still shouts and whines but not even close to what she used to. Unless she see anything moving of course πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ She loves t watch birds or just even listen to them and now she can hear the Cuckoo bird everywhere. I don’t think I’ve ever heard as many as this year and the first one I heard Cuckooed from north and according to old folklore that means we’ll have a dry summer. The frost we had the other night killed almost all the small peaches on my new tree, they have turned brownish. I hope that at least the two that still just were withered flowers might grow in to peaches though. It also killed all my corn plants, that annoyes me a bit more actually. I do however have more seeds to sow so I’ll do that this weekend and I’ll cover the ground so that any small seedlings that show won’t freeze if we’ll get frost again.

I fell asleep in front of the tv and woke up to the American Song Contest. I had already heard who won it all but I didn’t know the end result. Turns out that my three favorites ended up amongst the four first. I did not like the one who came second though but three out of four isn’t bad. Our big final is tonight. Ukraine is going to win, not only because the group got special permission to go by the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy (they are after all in war) but the song is not that bad. So the fight is really about second place and our song is one of three (the other two are United Kingdom and Italy) that will fight about it.

Tomorrow will be lawn mowing day, I noticed that my neighbor mowed outside my garage, we have our trash bins there so he tends to mow that part for me πŸ™‚ I’ll also do the laundry as usual but esides that I’ll do very little. The fence I’ve bought isΒ  self standing so to make it easy I might make my two vegetable patches round. The fence is rolled tightly so trying to make the corners in90 degrees will be a bit hard. I’m also thinking of planting my mini kiwi vines towards one of those fenced in vegetable patches so they will keep that fence at place when they start growing.

If I in the future doesn’t want a vegetable patch there I can use that space as a what we call bersΓ₯ (from the french word berceau and is pronounced much the same way). A bersΓ₯ is a place where one can sit and have coffee with friends and normally there’s a horse shoe shaped hedge around it. Typically here they use lilacs as the hedge. No roof above it though. Mostly the hedge is high so no one can look in and to keep the wind away but I’ve seen those with lower hedges too. So my “hedge” would be a fence covered in mini kiwi vines, not bad at all to be honest πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

I went out and took a look at the label :-)

DSC_0014 (3)

So just before I was going to bed yesterday evening I suddenly started to think about the label on my new apricot tree. I thought it looked a bit odd but also thought it must be a standardized thing they put on and then the text would say what it was. Well I went out to look at it a second time.

Turns out it wasn’t a standardized label, I haven’t gotten an apricot tree πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Instead I got one of those flat peaches πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So the last thing i did before going to bed was to email the company. It costs the same and has the same hardiness so I wondered if they wanted me to send it back to them or if I could take this tree instead since I really didn’t want to find a new box, since I had cut it down πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The sort of fun thing about this is that they don’t even sell that peach yet so someone must have made a big mistake.

They answered that I could keep it if I wanted so now I have a peach tree instead πŸ™‚ I do like them a lot those flat peaches but peach trees have huge problems with a fungus that kills them after a few years so I wasn’t sure at first but then I found out that they now have a good pesticide that kills the fungus (it contains sulfur which kills off the fungus and one need so small ammounts that it isn’t dangerous for anything else). One need to spray the tree with it after the leafs have fallen in autumn and one more time before the new leafs grow out. After doing that the problems will go away. I do like apricots though so I might order one anyway but most likely from another business πŸ™‚

I need to make my fence higher so that Alma can’t jump over. It doesn’t matter if it is people who lives on this little side road but she’s big and if one doesn’t know her she can look dangerous. Ok she doesn’t even walk towards anyone she doesn’t know but if one is worried about dogs that info isn’t worth a lot πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I’ll also need fencing in my vegetable patches, Albin has a tendency to eat everything I plant and sow if it is edible πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So I’ll start looking online tomorrow, the fence itself isn’t that expensive but the fence poles ars so I’ll look for some kind of substitute, like common wooden rules that I’ll paint so they can stand the weather.

Apparently my spine is a bit inflamed which I didn’t know, so after a while it squeesed some nerves that goes all the way down my leg and the walk is 45 minutes long in a good day, yesterday wasn’t a good day at all and I limped badly the last meters to the bus stop but I did make it. After that it’s a fifteen (in a good day) minute walk uphill to the garage. I did reach it after 35 minutes, limping even more bad πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I open the door and they guy sitting there says we didn’t get that spare part this morning πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

We will however get it this afternoon. At that moment I actually wondered if it was worth going to jail for the rest of my life after killing him for not giving me a call at all to tell me that πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I think he could feel that so then he said But we have a car You can borrow. It’s really good to drive but You mustn’t remove the ignition key when You’ve stopped. I so wish I had asked why I couldn’t do that because every time I had stopped the car I really, really wanted to pull out that key to see what would happen πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ No problem at work really and absolutely no problems here at home since people can’t find this place even with a map or a GPS πŸ™‚ But I wanted to stop by the store on my way home and some people in that village wouldn’t think for a second before that had stolen that car, a small Renault by the way.

I took this from the bus on my way home. A bit too dark because it’s almost impossible to see the Abbey ruin beside the church.

So every time I left the car I just placed my fleece jacket over the steering wheel so that no one could see the key sitting there. So I had the car until this afternoon when I finally could get my own car back. I must say that the little Renault was quite nice to drive but the seat was so hard that my back started to act up again. I’m glad that I finally understood how the fan and heating worked because we had frost again this morning. The rest of the day has been really nice though, lots of sunshine and warmer winds. I could have the door open to the painting box as well. Another good thing is that my work friend has come back from his paternity leave. Both because I’ve missed him but also because I finally don’t have to do his job πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I’ll still go through all the nozzles in the big washing machine every Friday morning because he can’t leave his little boy at the day care center so early in the morning. I like that part a lot because that means I’ll still have my going home early Fridays πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I stopped by the lake to see if there were any Cranes there.

Stora Bjurums Castle.

Besides this nothing much else has happened. I haven’t worked much this week but I still feel that tomorrow can’t come fast enough πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ If everything goes as planned I’ll start removing grass on the spots I’m planing on having my vegetable patch and also my potato patch.

Back in the days there was a lively little village beside the castle, almost all of it is gone now.
DSC_0072
Here there was a yellow apartment building, it was still there when I moved here. There was also a shop(since long closed) and I think an old garage as well. All the old root cellars that all the villagers had are still there though on the other side of this road.

It isn’t that long ago people lived in these houses. Too bad the castle owners didn’t know that the pandemic would have risen the price on them so much that it would have been a really great idea to renovate them. The pandemic made people realize that living in the middle of nowhere actually would be a great idea since it is harder to get infected πŸ™‚

That cow kept her hostile eyes on me both on my way home and also back to the bus the day after. She had a newborn calf lying just out of sight here.

We had a really nice weather yesterday, sunshine, little wind and rather warm, especially in the sunshine. I couldn’t enjoy it especially much though. I did think it smelled a bit strange when I made some pancakes on Sunday and it might have been one of the eggs that had started to turn bad. I woke up at 4 am and hurried down to the bathroom because I thought I was about to throw up. I never did but the rest of the day wasn’t the funniest I’ve ever had πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I didn’t eat all day but I did drink a lot of rose-hip soup. That also made it possible for me to drive to the garage today because there were no risk what so ever that I would have to find a toilet during the time I was in FalkΓΆping πŸ™‚ I asked them if they knew if they would start with my car early or late in the day because if they would start late I better take the bus home and go there the first thing tomorrow morning, so we decided it was better for me to go home and come tomorrow morning.

I would most likely felt more sure they know what they do if those hand written signs weren’t there πŸ™‚ They dress furnitures and fill upp the old stuffing as well. Is it called stuffing? well You know what I mean πŸ™‚

We call this pigeon Turkish dove. It looks very much like a Turtledove but is bigger.

I also passed a second hand shop.

The garage is at the top of a mountain called Γ…lleberg and the bus/ train station is at the bottom of it so it was an easy walk πŸ™‚ I was waiting for the bus in the cold wind and suddenly it arrived at a time it shouldn’t. Turns out it was the bus I thought I’ve missed that arrived rather late πŸ™‚ Good for me but not for the bus driver. I jumped off the bus at the lake and there are still some cranes there and after that I had the 45 minute long walk home. Most parts of the walk was wind free thankfully so it was actually quite nice even though I really wasn’t that full of energy after yesterday πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I like this old set. It costs around $ 55 US and I could easily repaint it at work.

I was supposed to call the garage just before 5pm to check if they were ready with my car but they beat me to it. Turns out that the car is leaking oil so some kind of seal has to be changed. I’ve looked on the net and it’s actually something very cheap??!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Well I guess they’ll need to pour in new oil as well but the seal itself is very cheap πŸ™‚ So now we’ve decided that I’ll get my car after their lunch hour, at 1pm. I’ll drive to work after that, it takes around 45 minutes so I won’t be there for long before my working day is over πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I’m so lucky to have that understanding employers! To be honest, living at the outskirts of the world as I do is tricky when the car needs to go to the garage, I actually would have to have two cars to make it work smoothly but with our prices on everything that would be more or less impossible. The last time I filled up my car with petrol it costed something aroundΒ  $10,78 US gallon. Personally I think there are lot of other things I rather use my money on πŸ™‚

If You want to see the photos a bit bigger, just open them up in a new page.

It was supposed to be sunny all day here and the sun did show itself in the early morning but clouds arrived and I didn’t see it again until the afternoon. I didn’t mind much though because it reached 10C (50F) anyway so I had the kitchen door open for quite some time.

Besides me going to the store to get the rose that will be planted on Teodors grave I did almost nothing yesterday. Well I did my exercises but that was it. There was still snow left on the ground and the other spaces were mostly muddy so I mostly just looked out the window to see my garden πŸ™‚ I was also a bit worried about Nova because her stomach was really bad and she didn’t even want to have a treat.

I boiled rice and saith and she wouldn’t even touch it even after I had put in some tune in it, tuna is probably the thing she likes the most to eat. So I kept an eye on her, especially this morning but I didn’t have to worry, today she was so hungry that she ate it all πŸ™‚ She is after all 15 years old and even if she’s in good shape anything small or big can change that quickly. She just growled towards Alma so now I know she’s ok again πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I haven’t done that much today either to be honest but I did bring up my lemon tree from the cold cellar and I also made that apricot and banana cobbler. I didn’t want to open a big tin of either pears or peach and there wasn’t enough with apricots in that tin so I added a banana. I can’t say that the banana added anything to the cobbler but the ice cream i had made was perfect with the cobbler πŸ™‚
