Category: Cloudy.

Grey and dull and rain.

Warmer than they guessed but also more rain, so we have mostly been indoors after our morning walk. It rained when we went out as well, sort of intense drizzle or light spring rain, I decided to only wear a hoodie and not the winter jacket so I was happy when Nova decided that we should walk in the forest today πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

They are still cutting down trees in there so the clean road was anything but today. Even though horses are used instead of heavy machines the ground, now saturated with water still gets worn down pretty bad. The grass will grow back fast as soon as spring springs for real though but at the moment we all get muddy while walking there.

Β  Β  Β

I’ve done my chores mor or less today. I’ve done the laundry and is baking a bread at the moment and soon I’ll do a meat sauce so I’ll have something to eat at work next week, I didn’t win the lottery so I will have to keep on working πŸ™‚ I’ll just add rice nudels each day and I can boil them while giving the dogs their breakfast πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

I’ve had this cold coming and going since christmas and it was back again this week. No fever to be honest but sour throat, runny nose, either coughing or sneezing and a tiredness that never goes away. We are plenty to have it and it is so annoying. Not enough fever to not go to work but not feeling good enough to go to work πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ It’s a damned if You do, damned if You don’t feeling to it πŸ™‚

The swamp is now a lake.

I don’t mind but I’m pretty sure this will be a nasty mosquito year.

The sun will of course show itself on Monday and Tuesday but then again we’ll get snow on Wednesday. It’ll be warm enough so the snow will melt away unless it comes at night because nights will stay cold. It feels like this weather is too good (despite the grey and dull weather) to be true. It is after all only the beginning of March yet and back in the days we could have winter here until late April and if it was really bad in to early May. I don’t miss those winters at all to be honest πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I heard that California might get up to three yards of snow up in the high mountains today, that’ll be fun when it melts.

I think this is a Coal tit. there are two other tits that looks almost identical though.

Β  Β

Have a great day!

Not the nicest of weather but it is at least not cold :-)

It isn’t the nicest of weather but it is warmish and most of the day not especially windy. The wind comes and goes and in between it’s quite calm. It’s mostly slightly misty or misty rain but every now and again rain has passed by and we haven’t even been close to sunshine. They said it would be well over 10C (50F) tomorrow but suddenly it has dropped to around 5C (41F), I don’t mind as long as it doesn’t drop down below 0C (32F).

Β  Β  Β

I did hear some cranes last weekend but none after that, lots of geese and swans though but no cranes. I can hear lots of owls at nights too and every now and again foxes scream, I won’t call it barking because it sounds more like a scream πŸ™‚ Meteorologically (when the temperature is above 0C (32F) all the time for seven days in a row) it’s for once spring at the same time we normally call this spring. It’s usually not the case up here in the north where winter, at least back in the days, could last until the end of April. I don’t miss those days at all πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

Lots of birds are not only tweeting but singing spring songs as well here now and today I saw the first Lapwings in the fields πŸ™‚ I only saw two here last spring and after that they vanished, it used to be loads here all summer long but something has happened, no one at work saw any after last spring either. I do hope that it just was a temporary dip in their population. We’ll have fewer birds around here this spring because they have thinned out parts of the forest, both big pines and spruces but mostly all the under vegetation that is so important for all the other animals, You know the ones that would have taken care of all the pests that now will have a free entry to attack anything that’s left, like the bark beetle that kills spruces. Why do they never learn?

Β  Β  Β

Tonight it’s the fourth semi final in the Swedish parts of the European Song Contest. I must say that I’ve never heard this much crap in my life before πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ It’s so obvious what songs they want to go to the final because the rest are so bad that it’s cringy πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ One of the singers wants to stay anonymous because she normally sing quite dirty texts and she calls herself FrΓΆken snusk (Miss Filth). Well since this is mostly a family show she actually for once had a song that wasn’t directly filthy πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚Β  Tonight we’ll have Norwegian twins (around 18-19 years old) competing and even though it isn’t what I would listen to I still know it will be something good, they would never risk their reputation with something crappyΒ  πŸ™‚

Β  Β Β

Besides this very little has happened here at home. Times are tough at work though, two more has been given notice about losing their jobs (it’s worse in the neighbor factories though). Over here no one is fired on the spot, we have at least one months notice and people like me who have worked in the same place for over ten years have six months before losing the job, so much can still happen for those having to leave in two months. The inflation is finally under control and they say the interest rate will start to drop down as well and when that happens people will start to buy things again πŸ™‚

The night shift works late some days.

The morning shift is just around to take over πŸ™‚Β

It is time to prepare for the show and hope that at least the Norwegian twins has a good song πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

41 cm (16,4 inches) of frozen mud.

The morning looked quite beautiful but this only stayed for a few minutes and after that the sky stayed evenly grey. Yesterday morning we went down to the creek, I knew there would be lots of water because they have flood warnings about the creek and where it flows out in to the lake. That however wasn’t the big problem, the big problem was where the road makes a dip before reaching the creek.

There’s almost always water here but now there’s a ditch on the right side that is supposed to lead away that water that instead lets more water in because of the high water level. So I thought why not jump over the smaller ditch to the right and then go through the forest until we can go out on the road again and then follow the ditch. Alma had been unusually annoying and really didn’t walk well. Anyway we reach the ditch and I tell the dogs to jump and both Nova and Albin did, Alma however stood absolutely still for the first time in her entire life. I made a total stop in the air because I held her leash and then went down in to the frozen mud.

It was much deeper than I thought it would be πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Yesterday was the day that Alma learned how strong voice I actually have and after that she walked really well and didn’t whine even once πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚Β  The odd thing was that I never got cold feet but above the boot I froze quite a lot πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚Β  Alma and I are now the best of friends again and we made a deal yesterday evening that if she stopped whining all the time while we’re walking I would be less angry when she pulled the leash. The morning walk today started a bit shaky but after that we both kept to the deal πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Today Nova wanted to walk to the bog again and it is more and more looking like the shallow lake it once was, there’s water everywhere. Just a little more water and I’m pretty sure ducks soon will swim around there πŸ™‚

I didn’t see any ducks but lots of geese flew above our heads, it looked like Greylags mostly but I’ve already seen lots of Canada geese as well. They always come a couple of weeks before the first Cranes but we do normally have one or two cranes here around this time and when they arrive we’ll get a snowstorm passing by πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

They’re guessing it might stay warmish during days and most nights but a few nights will be freezing cold. Also we’ll most get rain for most of the week and perhaps some snow mixed in it as well. I don’t mind if it rains, then perhaps the bog will become a lake again and who doesn’t want a lake property πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ but why does it have to be freezing after that rain? I’m really tired of driving on icy roads now.

I’ve heard that the air high up, I think it was the stratosphere, might become really warm next week and that the polar vortex therefore most likely will collapse and that can give us nasty cold weather again. If so I hope it does so over Siberia since they are used to it anyway πŸ™‚ Could perhaps help to keep the permafrost stay a bit longer πŸ™‚ Well with my luck it will happen here so I won’t put away my winter clothes just yet πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

If it is this much water in the creek up here I can only guess how bad it is down at the lake.

I need to fill the peanut feeder every day now and now when I work day time again I’ll have to do it the evening before. That will keep both the night shift and day shift happy. I must say though that the night shift (house mice) are eating way less than the day shift πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

It started to snow when we were out this morning, if it had been rain I’d call it misty rain but it was snow and the flakes so small that it mostly looked like mist from a distance πŸ™‚

I wouldn’t call what we’re having a storm but the wind is quite strong and the temperatures below 0C (32F) so it hasn’t been especially enjoyable to be outside today and since the wind comes from eat it also reach the cottage and garden. It will stay much the same until tomorrow evening and after that the snow will arrive instead. Damned if You do and damned if You don’t is the feeling about it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

It’ll snow until Tuesday morning and they’re guessing we’ll get up to 15 cm (6 inches of the garbage. The fun thing is that already on Wednesday it’ll get warmer and we’ll get lots of rain instead, yay. Nights will mostly stay cold though so it’ll be anything but boring to drive to work the coming days πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Β

The rest of the photos were taken yesterday.

The wind didn’t reach us when we walked in the forest though so it was quite nice to be out there. Unlike yesterday when we walked down to the creek and the wind hit us when we walked by the fields. The wind managed to go through my wind proof jacket so that says a lot about how strong that wind was πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So we have mostly stayed indoors this weekend.

Β  Β  Β

The cold made a comeback and I’ve been freezing a lot every now and again but it seems it has left me for this time at the moment. I did however miss a step when I walked down to the cool cellar so now my back feels quite sour. It’s always something isn’t it?

Β  Β  Β

I have managed to change my sleeping hours though, took one day πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So it feels like I’ll have no problems with going to work in the morning again. I can’t even pretend it feels fine to go to work but it feels fun to meet all my old working friends again. Some of them had already stopped working for the day when I arrived at work.

Β  Β  Β  Β

Have a great day!

A slow say.

It has been a slow day today, I haven’t done much than having a walk with the dogs, Alma couldn’t behave at all today so it was a constant war between her and I. She’s in heat so I guess that’s why she’s utterly impossible at the moment.

Β  Β  Β

I have made jam though. I had three big quince fruits that I needed to do something with so I thought jam would be the thing to do. One of the fruits wasn’t nice though so I tossed in the berries I picked before the first frost arrived, mostly strawberries (that didn’t taste a thing) and gooseberries that tasted a lot.

Β  Β  Β

Turns out that the strawberries taste a lot in the jam and I can’t taste anything from the gooseberries πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I can however taste a bit of quince πŸ™‚ The jam will work perfectly with pancakes though, so instead of pancake Saturday we’ll have a pancake Sunday πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

There were some kernels in the quinces so I’ll sow them later today, the wet paper towel method. Put the seeds in a damp paper towel (and cover the kernels with it) and put it in a plastic bag and then in to the fridge. If they are viable they’ll start to germinate in a couple of months. I’m not sure what to have for dinner today though.

Β  Β  Β

I have some sausages and meatballs in the freezer and I think I have an egg or two (must have three for the pancakes tomorrow though) plus some baked beans. That sounds rather nice to be honest but I can skip dinner as well and only have a few hard breads with cheese and ham, that’s not bad either πŸ™‚

Β  Β  Β

Have a great day!

New visitors to the feeder :-)

Hunters out in the forest today, had I known that they would come so late I would have had our morning walk long before they arrived. Since I didn’t know we instead went out when it started to go dark, so I didn’t bring any camera with me. If I would have seen anything extra special I still brought the phone with me.

Instead today’s photos have been taken during the week showing some of the visitors to the feeder outside my kitchen window, not only birds as I thought πŸ™‚ I’ll go to work tomorrow again, I’m well enough I guess but soo tired. All energy I should have doing very little throughout the week is not here at all πŸ™‚ I have only been freezing once today and no boiling at all and both the sneezing and coughing has been minimal.

I have however done the chores I had decided I would do. I did most of the laundry yesterday and the rest today. I’ve made a spaghetti sauce for dinner at work next week and also baked a bread. The bread is really tasty, especially since I had melted butter and cheese on them πŸ™‚

The Magpies don’t eat from the feeder but anything that falls down from it. They have behaved really well now when it has been cold, not even the smaller birds have flown away when they arrive.

The birds arrive to the feeder as soon as the first tiny glimpse of daylight shows. The Blue tits are always first tightly followed by

the Great tits. This morning, long before the daylight was even close to show I noticed, from the light in my kitchen, that the feeder was swaying a lot and I wondered how the small birds even could find the feeder when it was as dark as it was. Turns out that it wasn’t birds at all.

Turns out that I’m feeding two small house mice at nights πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I know I shouldn’t like it but I must admit that they are terrible cute πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

They didn’t hesitate to go inside the feeders either πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

So I guess that I need to find a new place for that feeder, perhaps in the big apple tree? Then again by feeding them like this I think I don’t have to worry that they’ll chew their way in to my home to find food, especially now when the temperatures might drop down to as low as they were earlier.

They did go away as soon as the day shift started πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

Thursday morning. On our way out to the island in the bog.

The weather this week has been really nice, lots of sunshine and no wind. I couldn’t enjoy it especially much though because the cold I had during the christmas vacation didn’t want to leave me. It has been an odd one. Sometimes I’ve felt rather fine just to minutes later freeze like a dog or boil like a kettle. Runny nose and lots of sneezings but thankfully less coughing. Also the throat couldn’t decide whether it should hurt or not so that has come and gone as well πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I have been on walks with the dogs though. Alma is in heat and she’s more annoying than usual, none of us can stand her for more than a few minutes at a time πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ She has been really annoying on our walks as well So at the moment she’s not the most popular girl here πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Our fox is very much alive thankfully, I managed to take photos of it in the cow pasture on the other side of the gravel road. The fun thing is that I didn’t see it while I took some photos on the frost covered trees in the pasture πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚Β  I had the wrong telephoto lens on to be honest but then again if I had had the bigger one I might not have caught the fox at all.

Today the weather sites first guessed that we would have fog in the morning, then they changed that to snow. So I wasn’t surprised that we had misty rain when I woke up, that changed to drizzle when we went out for our walk. Naturally it then turned to heavy rain for a short while to finally become snow. We did actually get fog too but well after noon. So I guess it would be hard to complain about those weather sites since we actually had both snow and fog plus the bonus rain πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

From now on it’ll get nasty cold again and I’m not happy about it. Alma removes all covers I hang in the opening at the dog house, so all warmth in there goes away. Really annoying! So now I’ve ordered three Dog-Igloos. One really big for her and two smaller for Alma and Albin. So when Alma has removed and obliterated the cover once again they still can be warm and cozy when they go inside their Igloos. Alma will of course try to get in to the smaller ones as well since why wouldn’t she so I can only hope that Albin wants to stay in the bigger one so she can stay there at the same time as well. They are so big that she can’t drag them outside but I guess she will try to do that anyway πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

We went out to the bog when we finally came out on our morning walk, I wanted it to get less cold but the snow was still enough cold to give Albin problems with his paws. Snow cramp isn’t funny. None of them seemed to hesitate going out there so I guess no wolves have been close for a while. I did however see lots of tracks after moose and the dogs really don’t like them either, not enough to stop them from going out on a walk there though πŸ™‚

They weren’t even close to how cold it actually was tonight.

So first they said it would be bitterly cold last night, then they changed that to just nasty cold. Turns out it was even worse than bitterly cold, it dropped down to -23.5 C (-10.3 F). It was so cold that the birds didn’t fly to the feeders after I had filled them, normally they’re there at the same time I fill them up. The temperature rose later on though so now it’s just nasty cold again.

It did take its time to do so though so our walk started much later than usual. We walked down to the creek and followed it down-stream. It snowed some almost all day so I couldn’t see any new tracks in the snow but something must have been walking along the creek because the dogs wanted to stop and sniff the ground every second meter πŸ™‚ ( one meter is one point zero nine yards).Β  The only bird I could hear was a lonely raven who carried something while it flew across the sky, by the look of it I think it was half a loaf of white bread πŸ™‚

I haven’t done much today besides that walk because the fever is back again and I’m sneezing a lot. I can only guess how bad it would have been without the vaccine shot. I started another radiator yesterday evening and guess if I’m glad i did now when the night was as cold as it was. The dogs are my radiators in bed though so I think I could have turned of the radiator in my bed room because it felt hot enough as it was πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I’ve also went down to the cool cellar, which was the cold cellar this morning. Just slightly above 0C (32F). My water pipes goes along the wall down there so I do need to check how cold it is when the temperature drop that much outside. Well it rose a couple degrees when it went less cold outside but if it gets as cold as that again I do have a radiator I can put down there, freezing water pipes are no fun at all! Perhaps I should a couple more radiators online to have just in case, I still have one of the original ones in the kitchen and who knows for how much longer that will last. Then again I am a bit tired of paying bills after buying the car πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I do however like my new car and is trying to figure out what name it should have πŸ™‚

There was a hunting dog barking in the forest but none of our hunters were out today, so I guess the dog had followed what ever it was it followed for quite some distance. So for once I decided that we should try the fields again. It is well over a year since we were out there, mostly because both Alma and Albin behaves like obcessed every time a car passes by.

The Boar is a coward so he came running first of all the pigs.

Then it hit me, it did sound like when cattle is running around in panic. The thing is that there aren’t any cattle in the fields now when it is winter. Then suddenly they came around a small mound but it wasn’t cattle, it was wild hogs! Alma and Albin started to scream like insane but the hogs didn’t care about us at all, all they wanted to do were to get away from something chasing them. They came from the direction to the village but since I mostly tried to keep Alma and Albin by my side (nova is never a problem, she rarely cares about wildlife but I have to say that she looked a bit curious about these pigs πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ ).

Snowstorm and new car.

20231222_110837
Bjurums Castle.

The snowstorm Pia passed by yesterday evening and all night long. I had borrowed my neighbors car and if there’s one thing one doesn’t want to do is to wreck their car because one was driving careless πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So even though I went home half an hour earlier I still came home a few minutes later than I normally would have done πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

A15659_001A
As You can see this photo wasn’t taken today but was taken last spring (with my Agfa Flexilette) but it shows the only big building, besides the castle, that still stands in what once was a thriving village.
20231222_111056
This is just beside the previous building.

The car dealer and I had agreed to meet around 1pm and I was going to get there by bus. The bus would leave my bus station at 12:05 and on a sunny and nice day in spring or summer it takes around 45 minutes to walk there,so since the world now once again is filled with that white crap (and the fact that it rained a lot before the snow fell and it went cold) I decided to start early, I’m so glad I have studded boots because the snow didn’t stick well to the ice covered road. Today it took almost exactly one hour.

20231222_113302
This is the creek where it flows out in to the lake.

I think I would have thought the world was beautiful if I hadn’t had to walk in this mess πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I only brought my phone so only a few photos today. The wind was still blowing pretty hard and it was bitterly cold. Well walking and wearing really good winter clothes did help but standing and waiting for the bus still made me pretty cold inside.

20231222_113436
The road leading to the castle. Big oaks grown on each side of it.

I managed to get there in time and went to the grocery store on my way home. They usually like when I tell them about my car problems πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So we had a good laugh before I finally drove home again. I haven’t had much sleep to be honest but I think the short nap I had in my recliner will help me to stay awake until at least 9 pm πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

There once was a big yellow house standing behind those Birches. I guess it was the rectory but now days priests usually don’t live beside the churches they work in.

Only one previous owner and it has a new cam belt, that was the thing that made me want to have it without even seeing it in a photo πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ It has six gears, something I need to get used to. The only things I really made sure to know about before I drove home was to know how to open the fuel filler flap, something I didn’t understand with the borrowed car, I had to phone them to know how πŸ™‚ how to handle the different lights and how to control the heat in the car, it took me over a day before I understood it in the borrowed car πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Cruise control and how to manage to radio can be learned later πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

This is at the bus stop in a village called Ljung. I like how they decorated the tree like that. Back in the days before they brought in spruces at christmas they often brought in a young crab apple tree, dressed it and if they were lucky it had green leafs and perhaps even small flowers when christmas arrived.

Winter vacation started today so no more work until January 8 πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

My new car and a very happy Alma πŸ™‚

Quickly melting away :-)

No ice and now snow if I would have taken this photo today.

I was just about to put the harnesses on the dogs when I got a text message that a hunter was going out to the bog using one of his dogs, so no walk this morning. Then again it has started to rain so the dogs wouldn’t be happy about a walk anyway. I can hear the hunting dog bark a lot so there’s something he follows though and perhaps we’ll be able to go out before it gets dark.

We were out yesterday though so that’s when I took the photos You see today. We’re having a strong wind blowing, it’s almost 10C (50F) outside and the rain falling so there’s a lot more snow in these photos than it is outside today. Even the ice seems to have melt away during the night and that makes life so much more easy πŸ™‚

We walked down to the creek and there I could see some paw prints in the snow that were slightly bigger than Almas and like Alma the animal spread their toes while walking in the snow and that’s what wolves do. It didn’t stress the dogs though so either there’s another big dog walking around here that spreads it toes like that or a younger wolf had passed by most likely during the night.

Only four more working days before christmas vacation and I really long for that now. I didn’t win the lottery so christmas vacation is what I can look forward to πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I have been thinking long and hard of what to buy myself as christmas present. I have now ordered a tin box with Quality Street Chocolate, 2500 grams (5,51 pound) πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ That’ll last a day or two I guess πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I’ve also put a bid on a telephoto lens for my Agfa Ambiflex, they are rarely up for sale so I do have my hopes up. So far I’m the only one that have placed a bid and I do hope no one else will see this on our Ebay called Tradera. So hold Your thumbs and cross Your fingers for good luck!
