A second harvest and autumn colors.

DSC_1721
It’s a good year for acorns.

We haven’t had as much sunshine today as they guessed yesterday but instead it started to rain much earlier πŸ™‚ To be honest it was mostly drizzle but the grass went wet so I decided that I wouldn’t detsroy my day with mowing the lawn πŸ™‚ Also the few flies that still flies around are nasty now and I don’t know what kind is biting but it sure itch a lot afterwards.

We went out to the bog on our morning walk. Nova wanted to walk there yesterday but I managed to make her walk to the part I wanted to walk in πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Today we went out to where she wanted. Lots of mushrooms everywhere now but I still haven’t picked a single one. I guess I still have plenty of time because the rainy weather will continue for quite a while they’re guessing now. The trees in the bog have started to change colors and it feels like it is a bit too early even for here but it has been quite cold and rainy for quite some time so I guess the trees just thought it was time to give up for the year πŸ™‚

I also found several flower buds on my rhododendron today, I guess for the same reason but it believing we’ve had an unusually mild winter πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I guess that it’ll flower in early September, especially if we would get some more warm weather again. It will from now on reach 20C (68F) if they’re guessing right but they seldom do that πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I took a look at my cacti that I placed in my apple trees this summer. They all look pretty fine and the Christmas cactus now have small buds πŸ™‚ I also have an orchid hanging out there but that one only flower once every year and just before spring arrives so I won’t know if it liked this or not until then. I did forget to check the ones that grows in my old woodland but I’m pretty sure they like it too. The only problem with hanging all these potted plants in my trees is to remember to bring them indoors again before the frost arrives πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I have a second harvest of potatoes as well πŸ™‚ I poured out the soil from the second bucket where I planted only the broken off potato sprouts. More in this bucket than in the previous one but not as many as I had last summer. Still I’m quite content as it is because I didn’t have to sacrifice any potatoes to get these, just the broken off sprouts πŸ™‚

My Black walnut is rather big now, higher than my cottage actually.

The English walnut does grow too but I would be surprised and happy if it survives the winter here.

No buds on my Easter cactus.

But tiny white ones on my Christmas cactus.

It is time to have a last cup of tea before dozing off in front of the tv. I will not miss anything on tv if I would sleep alla night, I think the quality of the programs they show now days are crap to be honest.

This is the planet Mars. I couldn’t find my old tripod and the other one is in the car so I had to hold my camera while trying to get a photo. In the original photo it’s quite orange but as soon as I cropped it that color sort of vanished. I really need to find that old tripod if the sky ever gets clear again πŸ™‚

Days have passed and things are still rather slow here. I did feel nausea at work on Thursday though and my stomach rumbled a lot so I went home quite early in the day. Felt really bad and started freezing so I went to bed, slept a couple of hours. After that I kept on feeling better so on Fri9day morning I went to work again. Have no idea what this was but it did at least pass quickly πŸ™‚

The big lottery winning went to Germany and hurray for the winner. We still have our smaller one (well it’s still around 150 000 000 Swedish kronor so it does feel a bit odd to write smaller πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ ) so I’m planning on winning that one tonight. I do hope that my planning for once works out well πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It’s still much warmer here than normal, ok nothing close to how it’s been on the American continent but much warmer than usual. Today I think it reached 14C (57,2F) while the sun was shining. The sun didn’t start to shine through the clouds until we were almost back home after our morning walk but I was able to keep the kitchen door open for quite some time. Then Alma suddenly decided that she would visit other homes so I had to bring the dogs indoors again.

She wasn’t that bad when we were out walking though, I only had to scold her three times! I really don’t get that dog πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ At home she’s amazing (even though she sometimes jumps over the fence πŸ™‚ ) she does what I ask her to do and she even comes up with things herself, like sitting down and lifting up her front paws to get attention and possible treats. She really doesn’t give a s..t about treats or anything when we’re out walking πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Well she gets attention when she’s pulling the leash or screams like insane every time something moves or perhaps will move if there’s even the slightest wind πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

The other evening when I let the dogs out before going to bed I heard a sound like something big was walking in the pasture on the other side of the gravel road. Didn’t think much about it at the moment, just thought that there must be a big cow walking around in the mud. Came out next morning and realized that they don’t have any animals at all in that pasture πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So my guess is that a moose must have been walking just a few meters (much the same in yards) away from my front door πŸ™‚ Perhaps I should start using my wildlife camera again πŸ™‚

DSC_0002

The weather has been rather pleasant today, we went out as soon as I noticed that the sun rose but since it felt a bit chilly I decided to put on the winter jacket. Too bad that Alma decided that today was the day she would stop behaving at all πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ It felt like I was walking in a sauna in that jacket. It felt like I had run a marathon after just have passed the beekeepers cottage and that’s just 150 meter (much the same in yards) away from home πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I needed a long nap after that walk and the sun shone when I woke up again. I went downstairs and opened the kitchen door and noticed that while the sun was shining the rain was also pouring down. Nothing much else has happened here. We never see much wild life any more because of Almas shouting and me scolding her for pulling the leash πŸ™‚ but we do here a lot of ravens and jays. I guess those are the only birds that manages to be louder than us πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I did put down my carnivorous plants in my cool cellar today though, the venus fly traps and the pitcher plants. All north american but not hardy enough to stay outdoors all winter. Well so far it has been much warmer than normal so they could have stayed outdoors much longer but I tend to forget to bring them in before it is to late normally.

I’ve been really lazy lately so I’ve just made pasta and meat sauce and will do so for the coming week as well. I might change my routine if I would win lots of money in the smaller lottery today (the one where I only πŸ™‚ can win 150 millions πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The big one didn’t have any winner yesterday so anyone winning it in the end will be filthy rich πŸ™‚ Well to be honest 150 millions isn’t that bad either πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I think most of us call this one Christmas cactus now days. Back in the days however there were several different species we had, some flowered in November so they were called November cactus here and the other ones were called Christmas cactus just because they were in bloom around Christmas. Now days they are so mixed with each other that they flower any time of year really. This one used to be clear white but like always they tend to turn pink after a few years.

A nice surprise.

I was really surprised yesterday. The ice cream lorry comes here twice a month and only when I still am at work. Yesterday it suddenly came to the village after I had come home, can’t remember if that ever has happened before. Normally it stops up at the farm and those times I have been at home they’ve left before I’ve been able to get up to the farm. This time it drove down our little gravel road, I guess he was hoping that my neighbors would buy some. Unfortunately for him they weren’t at home but fortunately for him (and me) I was πŸ™‚Β  So I stopped him and bought some ice cream with pistachio flavor πŸ™‚ He said he’ll come down this road two more times before the season is over so I told him not to come to early and stop by my cottage πŸ™‚

I didn’t win the one billion one hundred and ninety five million kronor jackpot on the lottery last Friday so I’m aiming on the one billion two hundred and ninety five million kronor jackpot tomorrow πŸ™‚ Since I’ve promised that if I win that much I would give everyone at work (those working at the factory floor, not the ones with their own offices) a lot of money I’ve realized that I most likely would have to move from here. It would be impossible to not be known as the rich one. The risk of waking up one day looking straight in to the face of someone wanting my money would be rather big since no one would know what would be going on in a little cottage at the outskirts of the world πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So I thin it would be better to just win the one hundred and fifty million kronor jackpot in the other big lottery we’re having because I’ve never promised them anything if I would win that πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ (divide with twelve and You’ll have the $ US)

Nothing much has happened here besides we’re now back to standard time again. So naturally I woke up when it was supposed to be 4:40 am but in the real it was 3:30 am. We are supposed to get rid of this time changing but the pandemic delayed it all, most governments were more occupied by other things that to write down their approval on that change. I When they finally do they will have to decide if we’ll keep the standard time or change to summer time all year round and sine we all know how politicians are this can take a decade or two before they can decide that πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

We’ve had a rather nice day here today. My thermometer says it reached 15C (59F) when it was as warmest. We had sunshine for quite some time as well and that was not predicted in the weather forecasts just a day ago. This one actually stops long before it would choke her but is uncomfortable enough so that she stops pulling the leash as much as she usually do. A couple of months ago I bought one of those small and handy hand chain saws. All I had to do was to attach the tiny sword and the tiny chain and then pot on the small cover. My brain has for some reason made it up to be something hard and complex, even though I really know it isn’t πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Today however I finally did it and it took almost a minute to do it, well one and a half because I put on the chain so that it didn’t saw, just jumped on the branches πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ My work friend told me his father had bought one from a different brand and that it immediately was filled up with saw dust.

Mine didn’t. The saw dust is sucked in to the machine but there’s an exit hole below the chain where it comes out again so all saw dust blew out. I tried it on several smaller trees and branches and it’s really good! I sawed off dead branches from my apple trees so now I’ll be able to mowe the grass there without risking getting stabbed by hard and dead branches and twigs πŸ™‚ I also cut off those big branches on the Hungarian lilacs that sort of had laid down on the ground, old age and heavy snow that fell last winter weighed them down and they never rose up again. Now I’ll cover those holes in the hedge where Alma tends to jump over when she wants to see what the neighbors are doing πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

We might get almost as nice weather tomorrow as we’ve had today, clouds have arrived but will perhaps open up every now and again tomorrow. If it is nice I have a couple of small trees to plant. Two cherry plum trees and one hawthorn and a small sweetberry honeysuckle. I have several sweetberry honeysuckle bushes but since I never remember what variety I have I have most likely been buying the same one and one need two different to get berries πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So this time I bought an entirely new one for us so perhaps in a year or two I’ll finally get berries πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚Β  Also the plum cherry trees have a tendency to spread via roots so I’ll need to put down a barrier around them so that the roots just can grow downwards. I’ll most likely just dig down the pots tomorrow and then I’ll have the winter to think about where they should grow permanently.

Then I saw this tree with number 14 on it so I guess they’ve marked individual trees for cutting down. We have a huge debate on how the big forest owners and companies should take care of their forests here right now and like always our “experts” suffer from the delusion that they know better than experts all around the world so they refuse to do the best for both the ones owning the forests , the forest itself and us who visits it. The people of Sweden were stupid enough to vote for a right wing government supported by a fascist party. Mostly because they promised that we would get instant compensation for the high electrical bills we’ll get this winter. So today they showed us what they’ll give us. For one thing it will be a compensation for what we payed too much last winter, when the prices were rather low compared to what they’ll be this winter and as best we’ll get those pennies some time next year. Some electricity companies have told their customers to talk to their banks so that they have those extra $ 5000 they might need to pay for the electricity this winter. The compensation we’ll get will stay closer to maximum $ 400 US for a normal house hold. I never can understand how anyone ever can believe a right wing government supported by a fascist party!!

The rain has been pouring down for two days now. So no walks after work since none of the dogs would follow me outside πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The grass on the entrance side is now so wet and soggy that not even the dogs will walk there, well walk is the wrong word since sliding in the mud is more accurate.

It would be nice to take a nap but I’m pretty sure that if I do I won’t be able to fall asleep tonight. Then again I know I’ll most likely fall asleep in front of the tv tonight so perhaps I just as well should take a nap πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

Slow days stuns the brain.

All photos comes from the folder “For a rainy day”, today was too grey and dull to take any photos. This photo comes from my old Flexaret III camera.

So yesterday while I was working I suddenly got a phone cal from my neighbor and I thought that can’t be a good thing. Either my cottage is burning down or Alma has escaped from the dog yard again. Thankfully it was the latter one πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So I had to drive home to fix the place where she had escaped from. The weather was really nice, sunshine, no wind and therefore rather warm.

I’m so glad that Albin actually is a really obedient dog that knows he isn’t allowed to leave the dog yard when I’m not at home because it would have been much harder to find him if he had seen anything moving because he had run after it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I’m never worried about Nova πŸ™‚ Alma spent most of the time with my neighbors and I’m so glad they really love her. Alma is now really good friends with their three year old daughter. They even filmed Almas visit to them πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I did go back to work for almost an hour before it was time to go back home again and everyone at work found it hilarious πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It was a bit slow at work today (no phone calls from my neighbors thankfully). I had plenty to do but time passed so slowly. Days like that sort of stuns the brain so when I went to the grocery store after work I wanted to renew my lottery tickets. Nothing strange but today I really couldn’t get it right. Here when we’re playing the lottery or any other thing like that we must get our identity card or drivers license registred in the machine. I really wanted to give her my license but instead tried with my bank card πŸ™‚ When I finally got it right I thought I just as well renew it for two more times but forgot to say that, so when I was about to pay I thought that it was way too cheap. So we had to re do it again and behind me the queue grew large.

I had a written note with me so I knew exactly what I wanted to buy today and it wasn’t until I had paid that I realized that I had forgotten to buy anything for dinner at work next week, so back in to the store and find something. I was lucky though because some kids were stopping most people to get to the till so I could sort of go around them all and get first in line again πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It was really nice to come home and to see that all the dogs were where they were supposed to be πŸ™‚ I let the dogs run around in the garden but thought I saw how Alma jumped over the fence to the neighbors again. So I shouted out her name and it turns out that she was at the opposite side of the garden. I thought it must have been a cat or a big bird going that way instead so I said to her that she was a good bird πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ It took a couple of time before I managed to say good girl πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

We have an Englishman working at the factory now days, he works the evening shift but we do meet for a couple of hours every day. He has lived in Sweden for around 18 years but he has a little problem, when ever someone understands he’s from England they automatically starts to talk English to him πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ He thinks he’s bad in swedish though so we (are of course no better) all talk english with him πŸ™‚ He sked me where I got my accent from because it does sound as if I’ve lived in England. He knows that I’ve just passed by as best, so I told him that when I lived in Gothenburg we had cable tv and the only channel I watched back then was a channel called BBC Prime. I must have worked all evenings or nights then because I watched Good Morning Britain every day.

Β Three from the Hasselblad. I managed to get the film damp but some photos turned out rather good anyway. I had forgotten about these photos from older cameras.

I realized that I didn’t speak english as they did on tv so I started to repeat more or less every word they said until I came close enough to how they sounded. I call it BBC english πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So I can only than the two who hosted good morning britain, Ms Anne Diamond and Nick Owen for how I speak english πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ He laughed out loud and says it sounds posh and I think that is the only thing posh about me πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

Yesterday night I didn’t get much sleep. Nova got some kind of stomach flu and had to go outside every now and again, usually just as I started to fall asleep again. Also at 1:30 am I needed to go to the bathroom myself and after that it was even harder to fall asleep.

So I was so tired at work that I went home a couple of hours early. I wanted to leave earlier than I could but suddenly some job came in (that we’ve been waiting for a long time) so I had to finish that before I could leave. So I thought it would be too late to take a nap because I didn’t want to have trouble falling asleep in the evening again. I made fish and rice for Nova (well the other two got some too of course) and after that I sat down in my recliner.

I did wake up every now and again to let the dogs go outside in to the garden but mostly they wouldn’t since the rain was pouring down the entire day and well into the night. So when it was time to actually go to bed I just went upstairs and fell to sleep as soon as my head hit the pillow πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Novas stomach had calmed down so I didn’t have to get up because of her either. I still was nasty tired when I woke up but that feeling just vanished when I had my big cup of tea πŸ™‚

The world outside was pretty cold when I let the dogs out. Didn’t feel that bad because there was no wind but I realized how cold it was when I was about to scrape off the ice from the car. Concrete ice I call it. I managed to scrape off enough so I could drive till the end of the village road, there I stopped and scraped off the rest πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Tomorrow morning will be much the same they say and I’m not looking forward to it.

Have a great day!

I hope it helps the ground water levels.

DSC_0004 (4)
There was some early morning mist yesterday morning.

The rain is pouring down and even here where the ground mostly contains sand it’s now impossible to walk around on the lawn without sliding around πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Still we need it so that the ground water levels finally rise again. We’ve had a warning about our ground water levels for well over half a year now so I do hope this rain will help some.

The heaviest showers have passed but it will continue to rain well into the night. We had rain yesterday as well and also lots of thunder. I didn’t hear much of it because I fell asleep in the sofa when it passed this area πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ We did have lots of sunshine yesterday as well and it was fairly warm so we did manage to take a walk after the hunters had leftΒ  and before the rains arrived.

I hadn’t used my water boiler for quite some time until yesterday. One day when it was rather nice outside I sat on the kitchen stairs and wanted a cup of te, for once I used tea bags. So I went indoors fetched the water boiler and poured the hot water in my cup. That was when I noticed that some potted plants needed water and though: well I can’t use boiling water, so I went to the rain water barrel and dipped the boiler into it.

Not a smart thing to do since the electric wired to the heat source is at the bottom of it and not water proof πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So I’ve let it dry for several weeks and yesterday I tried it for the first time. I was prepared to have to change the fuse but nothing happened πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I’ve missed it and now I don’t have to buy a new one. I looked ad ads via google and it is amazing how much some of those boilers can cost!

The most expensive one I found would cost something around $ 300 US! The cheapest one would cost something like $ 9 US. I do wonder what that expensive water boiler either did to the water or could do more than just boiling it to excuse that nasty high price. I must admit though that it did look rather nice πŸ™‚
