They’re guessing it’ll be warmer again.

We had sunshine when I woke up this morning and it was fairly warm as well. The clouds were on their way though and it looked like lots of rain were falling out from them as well but like yesterday the wind blew them away from us and it didn’t take long before they started to break up. So in the end we have had lots of sunshine with the occasional drizzle shower passing above us. Nasty wind though and I guess I just should expect that from now on.

So the morning walk was a bit late and the Monster decided that she would follow us. She was mostly rather close to us but every now and again she stopped and told us to wait while she was examining something beside the path 🙂 Some deer and other unknown animals ran away from us and she looked really interested while following them with her ears. One time however she looked worried and after that stayed really close to us for quite some time. Could have been anything from a fox to wild hogs I guess.

The weather sites are guessing it will become much warmer again both during days and nights so I’ve been planting some things in the vegetable garden and the raised box. I planted tomato plants, squash, spaghetti pumpkin and melons in the box. I’ve fastened bubble wrap around but over the raised box so it’ll work rather much like a green house but without a roof on it. I haven’t had them outside for more than a few days so I’ve also covered all plants with garden fleece (I’ve always called it ground cloth but that was something else and won’t let water through 🙂 ).

I still have Broccoli and another kind of cabbage called Hon Tsai Tai that needs to be placed in the vegetable garden but for the rest in there I’ll most likely just report them and keep them in there. Like litchie tomato, water melons, beef tomatoes and bell peppers plus anything else I might sow or still haven’t started to grow 🙂 🙂

It is time for a pot of tea and perhaps an ice cream. I really should bake some French rolls but I just don’t have the energy for it today.

Have a great day!

Do you ever just sit down in your garden, look around, and enjoy the sight of everything growing and blooming? Or is it always a work in progress and there’s never a moment where it feels finished before you have to start planting, pulling, pruning, clearing, cutting, etc?

I’ve always wanted a garden where I could go outside and just enjoy it (I guess I should realize I already have that, since I have a deck surrounded by trees), but I know gardens require constant maintenance to stay beautiful. And when you’re growing food in them, even more work.

It’s supposed to be in record-breaking 90sF in Virginia this week, with no rain for days. I really, really need to scrub the oak tree fallout gunking up all the cars’ nooks and crannies, but last week when it was beautiful, I was too weak from COVID, and now it’s too hot. I’ll have to do it very early one morning.

      Hi catsworking!

Oh yes all day long to be honest, the garden isn’t that big so nothing takes any longer time to do here 🙂 But it will never be finished before I die 🙂 My garden is a low maintenance garden since it is half wild, the only thing I am very active in doing is to remove as many roots I can from the stinging nettles 🙂 I even accept the occasional thistle here.
To be honest, it doesn’t require that much work to grow vegetables either. Just keep the worst weeds away, the rest can stay, don’t forget to water when needed and grow things that becomes big and suffocates anything growing around them, like potatoes, squash/pumpkin and tomato plants that don’t grow like vines but instead like a bush 🙂

Isn’t it always like that? When one can’t do something the weather is perfect but just the opposite when one can do it 🙂

I enjoyed the photos of Sara in this post and she really is a beautiful cat now, all grown up. We will be getting a couple of very hot days this week in the 90s (F) and then the temps will drop down again to the 70s by the end of the week. It’s crazy weather because it has only been in the 60s most other weeks. Last week we had 2 full days of rain and finally the trees are starting to have a lot of leaves.

      Hi Beatrice!

She is and she has an almost identical sibling up on the farm 🙂

It will be warmer here from now on and we might even reach 25C (77F) during the weekend 🙂 I do hope we won’t get a summer with Your kind of temperatures!!! 90s F is just too much 🙂

Still a few trees that are leaf less here.

I love those bumblebees in the clematis flowers!

it’s interesting that the Monsterkitten goes for walks withbyou. I had cats that would walk with us about a half mile and then yell at us that they wanted to go home. I always left them at the gatepost yelling, because the dogs needed more exercise.

I hope your weather keeps pleasant enough to grow things. I have a nice crop of leaf lettuce to harvest as needed, and thevpeas will be coming on in a couple of weeks. Our weather keeps cycling through cold and hot, which isn’t the best for growing peppers and tomatoes! But it has rained enough so we can conserve water. My daughter got a couple of rain barrels, but they would be used up in two weeks of hot weather. Hopefully we don’t have too much heat!

    See yyou next week!

      Hi Carol!

I used to have a cat named Theodore and he screamed like obsessed (already from the start) when he followed us and he always followed us all the way no matter how long we walked. He had a brother, evil Bertil, that followed us most walks but he was quiet all the way. He hated me but loved the dogs 🙂

They say we might even get up to 25C (77F) this weekend. I’m not sure if I dare sowing any beans or peas yet though because we can still have nasty cold nights here. June sixth is usually the last day we have frost during the night in this area. However temperatures down to 3C (37,4F) isn’t unusual here during summer so I must be prepared to cover the tomatoes outside of the greenhouse, inside they’ll enough warmth.

Yes rainwater is perfect to have and I have five big barrels but as You say in warm weather they’ll be used quickly!

      See You!
