Fog and rain.

There was a big shallow pond just outside my home when I moved here 26 years ago and every spring I could hear hundreds of frogs, sounded almost like bells. The farmers did what they could to remove all that water and unfortunately they were quite successful. Now days I barely hear a frog at all.

I woke up to a very foggy morning and I liked it 🙂 As You all know by now fog is one of my favourite weathers 🙂  I think it had rained during the night because there’s almost no snow or ice left, just a few spots in the forest but that’s it. It has been grey and dull after that but now it’s raining again. I really don’t mind rain now but it does give some problems, the ground is deep frozen so the water has very few places to move to. If we’re lucky the ground didn’t freeze to far down and as soon it has thawed the mud will sink down rapidly since there’s only sand beneath the grass roots.

Then again the deeper the ground has frozen the more ticks and fly larvae will have died so I feel sort of torn about it 🙂 I do prefer muddy floors before lots of nasty insects and ticks during summer 🙂 🙂 The news in the village today is that we might get a new neighbour at the end of our road, renters not buyers (I warned them about how previous renters had been treated when they wanted to buy the place just in case they would get that idea) . I talked to two people about what it is like here and that I love this place still after 26 years of living here. They did look ok until I mentioned that we on and off gets visits from wolves and that the wild hogs now also walks in the middle of our road during nights. They had already seen tracks at the end of the property so they, if they move here, most likely will put up a fence around the garden.

Besides this nothing special has happened here. I’m continuing of checking my citrus trees for pests, I’ve sowed four different rhododendrons and I’ll sow hardy kiwi seeds later today. I watched the world championships for juniors in Biathlon and to everyones surprise a Swede won a gold medal today 🙂 Today everything worked for that guy so we hope it’ll continue like that for the rest of the championships 🙂 The mouse I heard walking in the walls was captured yesterday so I’ve also been away to release it far away from the cottage 🙂 Even those I know had returned walked in to the trap this winter, they just can’t resist the coconut flakes 🙂

Well it is time for that last cup of tea for the day. Today is the last semi final in the Swedish Eurovision song contest. So far I’ve liked one song and the rest has been sort of meh. Next week is the final and after that we’ll know what song we’ll send to what ever country it was that won last year. I have no idea what country it was that won but I do remember not liking it at all 🙂 🙂 🙂

Have a great day!

Now that the snow has melted, the birch trees look pretty clean again.

But the trees that always look cleanest to me are the pines, evergreens, whatever they’re called. The trees with needles instead of leaves. They always look pristine. Maybe that’s because I’m here looking at oaks with still a few dingy old brown leaves hanging on them that for some reason never fell.

      Hi catsworking!

The birches are now getting rid of their outer layer of bark so they’ll soon look very white and clean again 🙂

Here most evergreens have lots of moss and lichens all over the bark so I’m not sure I could say they look clean but they do look very healthy 🙂

I meant the needles on the evergreens. Compared to oak leaves, they look very clean to me.

Did yyou get chocolate? I see you went to the store, and you said chocolate was urgent. Did you make macaroons?

Starting eeverything from seed is really a task. My sister and I had a native plant nursery for a while, and i remember stratifying the seeds, and mixing the soil for the seedlings. It was very scientific, because some seeds needed to be scarified, some needed to be washed in acid (like they might in a bird stomach ), some cold treated, and so on.

I hope your new neighbors are good neighbors!

    Haveca good week

      Hi Carol!

I did get chocolate but used the butter for something else, so now I need to but butter 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’ve always felt that the sowing was the interesting part and could almost lose interest when they started to grow 🙂 🙂
So far I’ve never had to use acid though 🙂

I haven’t seen them since but I think that the combination with wild hogs walking down the road and wolves can possibly be a bit too much 🙂 🙂

I wish You the same 🙂

Fog photography is wonderfully enchanting and perhaps there will be the chance for some here by the end of the week. But, for now, we are still in winter with a snow event forecast for later today. Then, a warmup is predicted so perhaps the cold river and warm temps will yield some good fog effects. Hope all works out OK for the possible new neighbors.

      Hi Beatrice!

Looking at the weather sites and even the tv forecasts shows jus just a continuing of warmer weather and even sunshine. I know there will be setbacks but I still hope there aren’t any 🙂 🙂 🙂
Yes warm air and cold ground is perfect for fog 🙂

I haven’t seen them again and I think that the combination of wild hogs walking down the gravel road and the occasional wolves might have been a bit much for the wife 🙂
