So cold!

It was a bit colder this morning than I thought it would be, it had dropped down to -9,4C (15,08F) as coldest. No wind and sunshine all day made our walks really nice though. I wore my studded boats because it is no fun sliding on ice and breaking something while being out at the bog where it would be very hard to find me πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ That however made it impossible to walk silent, those studs against the gravel road sounds like I’m crushing the stones πŸ™‚ So instead of seeing them we could hear them run away in panic in all directions πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It is much the same when I have them while shopping, people don’t run away but everyone looks around to see what it is breaking down πŸ™‚ but it’s only in the beginning of winter that happens because after that most people use studs in either ones that can be removed from the shoes (no one will because they are horrible to try and get back when going outside again) or shoes with studs already in them. Even teenagers use them now days, might be nice to not have to go to school but no fun not being able to go anywhere anyway πŸ™‚

Lots of hunting dogs moving around us while we were at the bog, not from this area but dogs doesn’t know any borders, especially not if they follow what ever it is they’re hunting. So we didn’t walk as far as I wanted to. Not that those dogs actually would care about us but because Alma would go nuts and start to screaming like crazy and I really didn’t want the hunters believe that their dogs was mauled by wolves πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I hope there are less out hunting tomorrow πŸ™‚

Despite it being so cold now I haven’t heard a single mouse in the cottage walls, it looks like the monster is doing a good job πŸ™‚ It is time for that last cup of tea for the day.

Have a great day!

I took lots more photos today so perhaps I’ll save them for another day πŸ™‚

  1. I’ve always had at least 3 cats in the house (currently 4), and have never had a mouse dare to enter the house, though I have had them occasionally in the storage room accessible from only outside and the crawlspace, both places the cats never go. I think word gets around the mouse community which houses are No-Go Zones.

    1. Hi catsworking!

The mice here are always running inside the walls (and in between the ceiling and roof) and only place besides that is in my closet so I’ve never seen any running around on the floors thankfully πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So she’s taking them while they are outside looking for food πŸ™‚ I did think of having a ferret as pet for a while because nothing scares any rodent as much as the smell of ferrets. So far I’ve been lucky to not have to get one, from what I’ve heard they smell bad πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

      1. Ferrets do have a distinct odor, but I had never heard of them scaring rodents. They don’t eat rodents, do they? Maybe if you kept a ferret and its cage very clean, it wouldn’t smell. I’m sure Sarah would love a ferret. I used to have Guinea pigs and my cats liked them and were protective of them.

      2. Yes ferrets eat anything be honest πŸ™‚ If it moves they’ll eat it but I guess pet ferrets eat some kind of special food one can buy.

I watched my friends guinea pigs and my cats looked at them as really big dinners πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ but then again so did my dogs πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ so they lived in my bathroom while they were here.

      3. Ew! I didn’t know ferrets ate meat. I always thought they were too squirmy, which is why I preferred fat little guinea pigs. They also didn’t try to escape all the time. I once let them graze in the backyard and my cat chased off a neighbor cat who was stalking them for a meal. My cats seemed to know they were supposed to protect the pigs.

      4. To be honest they can kill all chickens in a chicken coop within minutes and just eat one. The rest , if they are able, they’ll try and store until they need more food. They are relatives to the wolverine and have just the same huge appetite.
Guinea pigs do like to stay at home so they are perfect pets to be honest.

      5. You are really giving me an education on ferrets. I’ve only ever seen them in pet stores and had no idea they are so vicious. It makes me wonder why anybody is allowed to have them as pets.

      6. We have ferrets in the forest and I know (because I found its poop in the doghouse) we have one living just outside my garden. So it isn’t unusual to see them here, nasty quick though so I never get the chance to take a photo.
They started having ferrets as a kind of pet long ago, mostly used to hunt bunnies and other smaller animals and after a while those became easier to handle and when it became illegal to use them in hunting they became pets instead. So a pet ferret would most likely dies fairly quick if they ended up in nature. I do think they’re cute but perhaps nothing I would like to have πŸ™‚

      7. I never gave ferrets much thought before, but now they seem like snakes with fur and legs. I’ve never known of any that weren’t domesticated around here. But if a ferret could catch and eat a woodpecker, I wouldn’t mind having one in my yard because a woodpecker just put a new hole on the front of my house where I just had siding patched from his previous attack.

They are sort of semi popular here, mostly because of the smell from what I’ve heard. Plus some tends to love biting and it is said to be very painful. Thankfully the monster does a great job hunting mice so I won’t need to get a ferret any time soon πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
I think a woodpecker would be a bit tough but then again Martens would be able to get them πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I’ve never heard of Martens as pets though πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Woodpeckers are bad that way, for some reason it thinks it can find food there and nothing’s going to stop trying to get it. I guess it’s the same in the US as here, woodpeckers aren’t allowed to hunt no matter how much damage they do.

      9. That’s true. We can’t kill woodpeckers no matter what. It’s putting a nice hole on the front of my house, a little bit every day. I don’t know if he wants to live in it. I put up a birdhouse in the nearest tree for it a year or so ago when I was working with a guy who deals with these things to get rid of it, but I don’t think the woodpecker ever gave the house a glance.

      10. I remember that they tried to re locate one over here and that didn’t work at all, it just flew back home again πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Last year I had problems with a wood pecker couple raiding the feeders for the small birds, haven’t seen them this year so the magpies do it instead πŸ™‚
