Misty morning and spider webs.

We had a wonderful morning here, just below 10C (50F), morning mist and a sun slowly rising. If I hadn’t just woken up I would have taken our morning walk there and then. however newly awake, quite tired and both I and the animals needed some food before we went out. So by the time we were ready the mist was gone but it was still sunny and cool.

We walked the same way we’ve done lately since the grass is way too high in the forest since it’s only us walking there and we haven’t been there for a while now. Plus the grass was really wet after the rain we had during the night so it would also most likely be full of ticks. Only two flies were out to pester us but as soon as we walked in to shadow it was a bit too cool for them to follow 🙂 🙂 We did however see two Roe deer on our walk and we haven’t seen any when we’ve been out walking in all summer I think.

We actually had several showers today, not heavy and not long lived but if we’ll get more as they are guessing we will the ground is now a bit softer so that the water has a chance on sinking down into the ground instead of just running down through the garden and down to the bog that starts more or less behind the old garage and dog yard.

No need to mow the lawn yet so instead I dug out some space to plant the rhubarb seedlings I sowed in spring. The sand beneath the grass was so dry that one c an find more water in a desert 🙂 🙂 I also mixed in some compost from my smallest compost, a black one that stands n legs and can be rotated and should be rotated once a day I think. The fun thing is that since one is rotating it the compost becomes sort of round and to be honest all those round pieces looked like dog poo 🙂 🙂 🙂 I need to empty at least two of the three other composts I have, the third one I think still has a family of mice living in it 🙂 🙂

It is time for that last cup of tea for the day, I’ve already eaten so I won’t have anything with it. The summer apples are now falling of the tree so tomorrow I’ll buy things I need to make an apple pie 🙂

I have two small Ginkgo trees growing in my garden, this one has huge leafs and the other one quite small.

Have a great day!

  1. Twice this week I’ve walked out my front door into a big spider web spun overnight across the door frame. It’s a horrible feeling. Sometimes when I walk to the mailbox, I walk through a web I don’t see that goes from a holly tree to an azalea bush on either side of the walk.

The other day I was showering and saw a dot on the side of the tub. Without my glasses, I couldn’t tell what it was. It didn’t move even while I washed my hair.

When I was finished, I saw that it was a spider. But it seemed so clever, I shouldn’t kill it. It didn’t realize I was trying to save it and ran out of the tissue a few times, but I finally caught it and put it out the front door (where maybe its relatives are spinning webs across the door). It ran away, so I didn’t accidentally kill it. I just hope it doesn’t come back inside.

    1. Hi catsworking!

Yes they are everywhere now and like You I’m not too happy about getting caught in them 🙂 🙂 🙂

Thankfully my spiders in the bathroom tends to stay close to the ceiling but there is this one, black, big and hairy I really can’t stand. It walks towards me and if I throw something towards it it just starts running towards me 🙂 🙂 🙂 I really can’t stand that one 🙂 Normally I like spiders but that one is pure evil I think 🙂 🙂 🙂

      1. I tolerate spiders more than any other bug because they seem really smart. Like, they seem to know when you’re looking at them and start running the other way. I get a lot of webs around the outside of the house. And in just the right light, I see a lot of webs inside that seem to come from nowhere.

Right now I have a new mystery. I have a bed of fairly large rocks down the side of the house in lieu of gutters. The other day I went out to the storage room attached to the house and noticed a bunch of rocks flung outside their normal border, and then I saw it was because a large hole had been dug where they were, facing toward the foundation.

In a panic, I threw all the rocks back in place and they just covered the opening to the burrow. I’ve got the pest guy (who was just here and should have seen the hole and told me) coming back next week to see if he knows what animal it might be (he won’t, he can’t even identify bugs).

I’ve heard tapping that I thought was under the house, but stops when I go out on the deck. I checked the crawlspace and didn’t see anything. Now I think the tapping was that thing digging the hole, or doing something inside the hole.

It’s been several days now and the rocks are still covering the opening. To be able to push a lot of heavy rocks 3-5 inches large as far as it did, it’s got to have some strength.

  2. Those spider webs are really something! It’s spider web season here, and oddly I am happy to run into them, because there were almost none the last two years, a bad sin!

    1. Hi Carol!

They are beautiful but there must be either lots of morning dew or that we’ve had drizzle to be able to see them.

Our spiders were late last year but when they finally started we could find the webs everywhere. This year they are slightly early instead. Spriders are my friends since they eat flies, anything that eat flies is a friend of mine 🙂 🙂 🙂

  3. I don’t think we have woodchucks around here. I looked it up and maybe it’s a groundhog? If so, it could be digging a tunnel all the way under my house!

We have squirrels, chipmunks, opossums, raccoons, rats, mice, snakes, skunks, maybe foxes, rabbits.

I texted a wildlife guy who once tried to help me with a woodpecker problem (this woodpecker was so impossible, he stopped doing woodpeckers), but he hasn’t texted back so maybe he’s out of business.

I haven’t heard any other noises, and the rocks I threw over the opening are still in place.

When the pest guy comes, I’ll ask him to put a stick in the hole to see how deep it is. I don’t want to do it myself in case something is in there and jumps out.

    1. Hi cvatsworking!

I was thinking of groundhogs but I just couldn’t remember the Swedish name for it nor the English 🙂 🙂 🙂

Your animals sounds so exotic for me 🙂 The only thing we actually have here are the squirrels, fox and rats but now days they’ve caught more and more raccoons on camera. They are cute but I really don’t want them here. Our badgers behave like the groundhog and quite often tries to dig their burrows under buildings. One tried here but it dug where I have my cellar so it didn’t get far before it gave up 🙂 🙂 🙂

I guess it will be harder to reach him since it is summer, everyone seems to be busy in summer time.

Best to let the pest guy do it, hopefully he knows what he’s doing 🙂 🙂
