Plum pie, is that a thing?

My neighbor is working with what I think is a trimmer in their garden, could be a chain saw but the sound is to persistent for that. I guess the grass have grown very un-evenly so it’s easier to use a trimmer instead. Personally I would still have used a lawn mower, trimmers aren’t good for the back.

     

I have no idea if there have been any hunters out in the forest today, We have walked in the village instead. It was cloudy but the sun broke through just as we went out on our morning walk. Both Alma and Malkolm behaved much better today. I’m not expecting my dogs to walk right beside me all the time but I really don’t want them to run around like crazy or pull the leash like insane 🙂 🙂 I just want them to smell everything they can on the walk and not stress around. I do understand that all smells and scents are exciting but they are more or less the same we have all over this area, just other animals leaving them 🙂

   

Can You see those rocks just where the tree line is? Those are old tombs and I think they are from the Iron age.

The sun stayed for a couple of hours and then the clouds came back and for a while it looked like we would have rain falling but that never happened. I still went out to water all the new trees and bushes, no risk of over watering in sandy soil 🙂 My neighbors texted me to ask if I wanted some plums, so now I have a big bucket with plums in my kitchen 🙂 I really have no wish of get all those kernels out of the plums but since I can’t eat that many I’ll have to and then I’ll make some jam from them. Plum pie is that a thing? Because I’m not sure I have enough with sugar to make that much jam 🙂

   

I’ve done the laundry but I still have to do dinner for work next week. I’m not sure what to do but I have some sausages in the fridge, bacon in the freezer, eggs in the cool cellar and then perhaps go outside to see how many potatoes I can find or just have rise nudels, that works well too. Time for a cup of tea and then start with the food.

      I’m glad that I saw it, those wheel shaped webs are finally becoming more and more now so with a bit of luck I can photograph more now.

      Well it didn’t start especially well but more on that in the blog today.

    Lovely web photo. I’ve been looking for orb weaver spiders but haven’t seen any. Lots of grass spiders weaving funnels, though.

    It’s nice to see the horses again. Is the really shaggy tan one with the black still around?

    Plum pie can be a thing. You might have to use a bit more thickener for the filling because plums are juicy. You could do plum crisp. Just slice the plums toss them with sugar and some flour or cornstarch and maybe some cinnamon or cloves and press them into a pan. Top it with a sugar, flour, butter crumble and bake it. I’ve done it with peaches and it worked well.

    I use the trimmer on the lawn whenever I can. When the lawn is wet the battery lawn mower has a difficult time and it runs the battery down faster. It probably needs a new one after all these years. The trimmer has no trouble with wet grass. My lawn also has small areas that grow faster than other areas so I use the trimmer there, too. It can be hard on the back but I find wrestling with the lawn mower just as hard.

      It is the time of year when those webs finally are getting more common. The same here with those funnels, see lots of them around the cottage.

      Yes but he isn’t that shaggy now days 🙂 🙂 He’s the one that walks with the Fjording and they also live closer to here. I can’t say hi to them at the moment since they can’t reach the road yet but it’s just a matter of time 🙂

      I did make a crumble pie, sort of a swedish cobbler I think and it did taste really nice. I did however not remove the skin so they tasted a bit sour but that was perfect together with the rather over sweet custard I had 🙂 🙂 I also added some coconut, cardamom and almond flour 🙂

      I do have a trimmer but I almost never use it, my electric mower is so light and easy to use that I rather use that. It is easy to see where the ground is as driest here, just look at how high the grass is 🙂 🙂

    Great photos today. What breed of cattle are those?

    I think they are a breed I don’t see in Western Canada. Seeing the red farm building (house? barn?) reminded me of something I heard in economics class. A professor was wondering why farm buildings were so often painted red. So he asked a farmer why the all used red paint. The farmer told him it was because it was the cheapest.

    That satisfied the professor until he wondered why red paint was so much cheaper. He asked a paint company. ‘It is so cheap because we sell so much of it to farmers’

      I think it’s a mixed breed, not so big that they eat too much but also not so small that there isn’t enough meat on them.

      It is so true about the red paint, much cheaper but also better for the wood. The red paint contains iron oxide that keeps rot away for a long time. Some of our oldest houses have that paint and still look good. As You can see almost all houses and barns are colored in that red paint here and it’s the same in the entire southern half of this country. Countryside here means red cottages and barns and we love it 🙂 The only thing is that one needs to re-paint the building more often.
      This paint we have has already from the start been much cheaper so it can be the difference between us and You over here.
