Life goes on.

Sometimes life just feels like that spruce in the top photo, one is beaten hard by life but one still stand even though it looks like one might be dead ๐Ÿ™‚ย  A week ago Albin did the one thing he absolutely wasn’t allowed to do, he attacked my neighbors little twelve year old dog who wouldn’t hurt a fly. My neighbors dog is ok but I had to say good bye to Albin. The neighbors dog is ok but for a while we thought he was going to die because he coughed up blood. It was a vein in his throat that burst when Albin bit him.

So there was really no other way to handle this and the last week has been shit to be honest. Alma is three years old and Nova soon eighteen so I had to find Alma a new buddy to play with during days. Nova only has that much energy a to spare for playing. So one day I looked at dog ads on Blocket, I guess it’s the equivalent to Craiglist over here. I found two that I thought were interesting, one with a labradoodle- mini american shepherd mix but I was thinking about how much problem people have with labradoodle fur so I skipped that one.

ย

The other one had border collie-english cockerspaniel/ border-collie-golden retriever mixes.. The right size, energetic enough for Alma to play with and finally a dog that I’m pretty sure wants to use his brain ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ So today I went and picked him up. I named him Malkolm and he is apparently a guzzler so I said that he will fit in well with the rest of us ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ He was the biggest of all the siblings and the one with the longest fur so perhaps he’ll look like a black (and the other colors he has) golden retriever?

ย

He only whined a couple of times and after that he crawled in to my lap and slept there the entire way home. I didn’t expect Almas reaction when they first met, she growled! She seemed afraid of him at first and it took quite some time before she became friends with him and now she follows him everywhere he goes. Nova Liked him as soon as she met him ๐Ÿ™‚ He has explored some of the garden but mostly he’s been napping on my slippers ๐Ÿ™‚

ย

I do miss my old Albin but the world doesn’t stop just because one think it should when things like this happens and now we have this new family member that I hope will have a really good life here. Perhaps with lots of luck this guy will calm Alma down because she will take care of him as if he was her own, of that I’m sure. So welcome Malkolm!

  1. Christer,

I wrote a comment which didnโ€™t seem to be published so Iโ€™ll try again.

I am so sorry you had to make the difficult decision, but I totally understand. I was afraid I too would have to make that decision. The dogs had two horrible fights. I nearly lost my finger on the first and the second cost $2000.00 in vet bills. Nala started one and Henry the other. Henry doesnโ€™t give up. He grabs her by the ears. I started feeding Henry second to eliminate his food issues. Now, if food drops, he doesnโ€™t go after her if she eats it. He knows heโ€™ll get some. I do watch the two of them. Henryโ€™s fear sometimes gets the better of him.

I love your new puppy. He is adorable. I suspect he play with his siblings and theyโ€™ll feel a bit younger.

    1. Hi Kat!
They both ended up in the spam I’m afraid.
Yes I remember those fights but thankfully it didn’t have to go as bad as here. I paid more or less the same amount for my neighbors vet visit, he had to stay over night for observation but thankfully he’s now back to normal again ๐Ÿ™‚ There’s really no other thing I could have done, my neighbors would never be able to feel safe in their own garden if Albin had stayed. It was hard but had to be done.
Yes fear is a tough one to cope with.

Alma is looking after him all the time but still is a bit unsure how tough she can be while playing ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Omg, I saw something on Facebook and had to come here and see what had happened. Iโ€™m so so sorry. I wonder what made Albin do that! You obviously had no choice other than putting him down but even though you had to, Iโ€™m sure your heart is broken.
That new puppy?! With Border Collie on both sides heโ€™s sure to be a smart dog! As you know, I adore Border Collie and he is SO CUTE! Heโ€™ll definitely keep you busy if a good way.
I really need to visit more often. I just seem to scan Facebook and repost posts or give health updates. Sorry that Iโ€™ve not been around. Take care my friend!

    1. Hi Cindi!

Well for five years he hasn’t cared if my neighbors were in their garden, first he followed Sune in to mine and then he ran along the fence huffing and puffing all the time ๐Ÿ™‚ After that he followed Alma straight in to the garden, she jumped over the fence and he kept on running along the fence huffing and puffing ๐Ÿ™‚ This time however she skipped to run in to my garden but instead go straight to the neighbors and Albin followed. Yes I know I did the right thing but I miss him so.
Well Malkolm will most likely start doing stupid things soon enough so that will take my mind away from Albin ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ We just had our first walk and what a difference to Alma (and Albin when he was a puppy) Malkolm loves to sniff on everything he can and do so for a long time, Alma can’t concentrate for more than fifteen seconds and then she’s off to something else ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚
