Yay! The mosquito season has started :-)

I really didn’t need to paint anything today but the weather was so nice and we had summer temperatures so I did it anyway 🙂 🙂 It was so warm in the factory but so nice where I paint so that half of the day I was there was so nice and time just ran away. It didn’t when I had to go back to the heat again 🙂 🙂

The clouds arrived before I drove homewards though and now it rains but just a nice spring rain. It can change pretty fast though if the showers that can give us up to an inch of rain comes this way. We do need the rain though so I won’t complain if those showers comes here. That would also fill up my water barrels so that’s another reason not to complain.

I need to buy more fence. I put up fences around the places where I’ll have the potato patch and the vegetable patch and even though I do feel those spaces were smaller than I expected I still spent an entire roll of fence 🙂 🙂 🙂 I haven’t started to remove the grass yet, I’ll do that tomorrow unless it rains then too. I’ll place the removed lawn on top of stinging nettles, it won’t kill them but it will at least slow them down a little.

The frost we had the other night killed almost all the small peaches on my new tree, they have turned brownish. I hope that at least the two that still just were withered flowers might grow in to peaches though. It also killed all my corn plants, that annoyes me a bit more actually. I do however have more seeds to sow so I’ll do that this weekend and I’ll cover the ground so that any small seedlings that show won’t freeze if we’ll get frost again.

Yay, the mosquito season has started 🙂 We were walking in the forest when they suddenly attacked us. I have a few bites on my back but the most annoying one is on the side of one of my fingers. I don’t even know how it managed to go there since I held two leashes with that hand. Just a few minutes ago a woman with a stroller and a small dog passed my cottage and went up to my neighbors. The poor woman must have been scared to death when Albin and Alma suddenly started huffing and puffing and barking just as she walked beside my fence 🙂 🙂 🙂

  1. Hi Christer,
I hate when mosquitoes bite on the finger. It’s always much itchier there. I haven’t noticed mosquitoes here yet. Right now it’s those little bugs that hang around in front of your face distracting you while their friends bite you everywhere else.
We’re having teaser rain. It’s cold and cloudy and every so often a passing cloud will tinkle a bit of rain that’s not enough to be helpful.
    Have a great day.

    1. Hi Caryn!

Yes it is and a bit too easy to reach 🙂

Midges? or black flies? any biting bug is annoying though and I think I wouldn’t hate flies that much if they at least didn’t bite 🙂 🙂

A bit rainy in the early morning but nothing at the moment. More will start to fall already later today and why not it is after all the weekend 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day!

  2. Hi Christer,
It is amazing you had a frost. The Former’s Almanac says no planting in this zone until after May 31 in case of a frost, but I don’t remember ever having one this late in the spring.

I hate mosquitos. The worst spots for bites for me are on the feet. They itch something horrible. When I was in Ghana, I scratched one of the top of my foot, and it got infected. The Peace Corps doctor had to lance it. I usually scratch until I draw blood. I prefer pain to an itch.

I put anti- mosquito plants in the boxes on the deck so I can sit out there and not get bitten to death. We do have a black fly or maybe a green fly season. It should be coming with the warmer weather, but they don’t bother me here at the house.

    Enjoy your day!

    1. We usually have our last frost around June sixth but two summers ago we had frost on June twelve. I didn’t expect that at all so lots of potted plants froze.

I can take mosquitoes since the itching never starts after the first bites. The annoying flies however I really can’t stand at all and they don’t even bite 🙂 🙂 but You’re right about the feet and rather have the pain than the itching!

      Have a great day!

      Christer.
