Well I didn’t expect that would happen.

So I left the cottage to release another mouse from the box trap before having the morning walk with the dogs.  I was a bit later than usual, around nine am even though I had been up since before six am just because it still was so cold after the night and a cold wind was blowing. The air had a slight hint of smoke from somewhere but that’s not unusual when mornings are cold so I didn’t think much of it. I went out to the forest, let the mouse run out and started to walk back home again.

Every time I’ve let the mice out of the box trap I’ve tried to get a photo of them.

This is as close as I’ve managed to get that photo 🙂

A bit too much smoke to just come from a chimney.

When I reached the edge of the village again I thought that there was too much smoke coming from the neighbour with the five big horses, so instead of getting the dogs I continued up the road and turned towards that place. The first thing I saw was three of the horses standing just beside the fence towards the road and the second thing I saw was a fireman with a hose walking in to one of the smaller buildings on the property that clearly was on fire. I did of course not go to them to ask what had happened but apparently there was a workshop in that building. Turns out that they had discovered the fire already at seven am, called our 911 (which is 112) and had to wait in a telephone question before they answered!!!

The reason it still was on fire when I saw it was because they had apparently gas cylinders in there, for welding I guess and they didn’t want to blow up with them in case they would explode 🙂 🙂 The little building is gone but no humans or horses were injured and that’s the important thing. This happened several years ago in another place here in the village but that time they also had oxygen cylinders in the workshop/garage. I remember it very well because I had passed that place just fifteen minutes before the explosion and the shock wave pushed me while I was in the shower 500 meters (much the same in yards) away, also down in the slope here. People who saw the explosion says that there was a flame rising almost 100 meters up 🙂 🙂 🙂 Thankfully no injuries on either humans or animals that time either but we still talk about it every now and again 🙂

Still frost on the ground in the forest.

So anyway, the walk afterwards was just as un eventful as one only can hope they’ll be 🙂 later on I drove to the grocery store in Gudhem to pick up a parcel, well to be honest it was a thick letter and I have no idea what so ever why they didn’t put it in the mailbox. The only thing I really wanted was some ice cream because I’d already eaten the last I bought from the ice cream lorry 🙂 They didn’t have my favourite kind but close enough 🙂 The rest of the day I’ve mostly spent indoors despite sunny weather and almost as warm as yesterday but there was this nasty cold wind that destroyed it all and I’ve cursed the weather all day because if it has to be windy why on earth couldn’t it been warm winds?

The Magpies didn’t like that I pruned the old crabapple tree last year,

So they abandoned it and made a new one in the lilac hedge, the storm however was so strong that the entire lilac broke but the nest was still intact! Says a lot of how good builders they are.

Now, in just a few days, they’ve made a new one in the summer apple tree 🙂

Have a great day!
