Snow.

I noticed tiny, tiny snowflakes yesterday evening just before going to bed and this morning they had grown a bit bigger and multiplied a lot. They don’t fall down though, they fall sidewise in the strong eastern wind that never seem to leave us. Normally we have winds from west here and since I can’t feel them here where I live I don’t care much about them. Eastern winds however reach my home and since they usually comes during winter and they tend to be nasty cold I really don’t like them. Eastern winds during summer however, very rare though, are nice and warm even if they have blown over the Baltic Sea so I do like them then 🙂 🙂

I had a chat with my neighbour today, everyone in the family is at home and have a cold, he’s the only one not getting it yet. He wanted to put one of their cars in their garage but couldn’t because they have a greenhouse standing there right now 🙂 It is more or less the same size as mine and fully assembled. It will stand there for quite some time I’m afraid because he really can’t secure it to the ground while it is frozen and we have these everlasting strong eastern winds 🙂

I made plum jam the other day and I still have those berries I picked last summer. So I started writing a list on what I need to buy next time I go to a grocery store. I need to buy something we call jam-sugar. It’s regular sugar but also has pectin in it already. It comes in 1 kg packets so I also need to buy some more fruits or berries so I have enough for 1 kg of sugar. I’m not sure the peaches they sell now taste anything, blueberries  are never wrong but hardy kiwi is rather nice as well but expensive. I can of course by frozen berries, it wouldn’t matter if they thawed on the way hone since it only takes a few minutes to make the jam anyway.

I wonder what animal lives here? This hole is only a few days old.

It is time for that last cup of tea and later on I might watch the opening of the Olympic Games, or go to bed 🙂 I had a cup of Trea earlier today and wished I had something to eat, like a bun. Then suddenly I said to myself that it sounds as if the ice cream lorry is going down the road and it was 🙂 🙂 🙂 So now I have lots of ice cream in the freezer 🙂

Have a great day!

I fell asleep on the couch for 2 hours yesterday with Roc, and when I woke up, my skylights were covered with snow and it looked like a blizzard. It ended up only about 2-3 inches, but we still have a thick layer of ice from the storm 2 weeks ago that refuses to melt lying underneath it.

Today it’s constant wind with gusts up to 50 mph, making it feel like 8F outside, so I don’t think I’ll even go out to clear off the cars. They say the wind could cause the power to go out if trees start falling.

I’ve had no mail delivered for 2 full weeks. January 31 is the deadline for companies to mail all kinds of statements to people for filing 2025 federal taxes, but it’s all stuck at the post office. I had hoped to bring my tax papers to my accountant by now, but I can’t because I don’t have them.

I’ve read that people are going to the post office trying to get their mail (because the streets are fine, the PO is just refusing to drive on them), but are told there’s so much mail piled up everywhere, nobody can find anything. Or they’re told the mail is “out on the truck.” The truck that ISN’T driving to their house to deliver.

In my lifetime, I’ve never seen the Post Office fail on such an epic scale. Their old slogan, “Neither snow nor rain nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds,” would be funny if what they’re doing weren’t so serious. Many people get their medications mailed, and those are also buried in the backlog.

I’ve got to see if some documents can be emailed as PDFs. Every day I get a notification from the PO showing with photos of the envelopes what “should” be delivered that day, so I know they’ve got my tax stuff, as well as a payment check from a client.

      Hi catsworking!

One day without any stronger winds today and we even saw the sun for an hour or so before it set for the day 🙂

That’s annoying! As You say many get their medicines via mail now days and tax papers are really needed! Almost everyone here with just their income in their papers can just go out on the net, log in at the tax authority and click to approve it. So much easier these days and even if one have a few things to deduct one can do it like that too.

Our postal service had huge problems for a while and when some employees didn’t feel like they managed to do their job they just tossed away the mail 🙂 🙂 🙂 People kept finding lost mail everywhere in the cities. Better now days though 🙂

I do hope things get solved quickly!

Unfortunately, i agree with catsworking that the US postal system has really gone downhill. The days of prompt mail delivery are long gone. The mil delivery here at the apartment building is often so late in the afternoon compared to a year ago when it was much earlier. I dont know if the very cold and snowy winter weather we’ve been having this year is the reason.

      Hi Beatrice!

I am surprised over how well ours actually is working at the moment! It hasn’t been the case for several years though but I hope it stays this way from now on. OK they don’t know how to pack parcels in the car and usually place all fragile parcels at the bottom of the stack 🙂 🙂 🙂 and we only get mail delivered every second day and they want to change that to every third day, no wonder people don’t send letters or cards any more!
