The wild hogs comes closer and closer.

The wild hogs are now just 50 meters (much the same in yards) away from my cottage, in the cow pasture beside the dog house/ yard. I did wonder why the dogs kept running around like crazy during the night πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

-6C (21,2F) as coldest last night but it can’t have lasted that long because it was close to 0C (32F) when we went outside after we had woken up. They said the sun would start to show around 8 am, so of course it didn’t arrive until after noon but when it did the world warmed up properly again πŸ™‚

I haven’t done much today, I sowed some leek seeds and was about to sow some bell pepper seeds but for some reason I still haven’t πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I’ll do it after writing this πŸ™‚ I can’t start sowing especially much yet because I don’t have the space indoors and we’ll most likely have frost several nights the coming week, days will be warmer again though.

Chionodoxa.
Vinca minor.
This is how it looks after I removed the grapevine. I think I’ll plant an apricot tree there.
Can never remember the name on these, spreads really happily everywhere though.

I started to clean up my garden yesterday and continued for a while today. I also gathered all the pots I’ve spread around the garden πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ For some reason I never empty them in the autumn so I really need to do it now before weeds grow and cover them so I can’t find any when I need to πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I’ve also continued to rip up stinging nettle roots and this time I managed to stay away from those nasty leafs. I have way too many nettles in the garden but then again they are edible so it is perhaps not such a bad thing to have just in case the orange idiot does something really stupid (worse than what he has so far and he’s done some really stupid things) πŸ™‚

I also tried to nap in the sofa while the sun shone through that window. Stupid idea when one has two dogs and a cat πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I can however tell You that when I gave up they finally decided it was time for them to have a nap πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

The orchid that flowered earlier this winter decided to give me more flowers, didn’t see that until I thought it was time topwater it πŸ™‚

It is time for that last cup of tea for the day. I must remember to buy more tea tomorrow when I’ll drive to my health care place to give blood before the kidney x-rays. Some time this week I’ll know if I got a job at the coffin factory, if not it sounds like I have another one on the way, they promised to call back this week and give me a job if I didn’t got the coffin job.

Have a great day!

  1. Yes the ticks are back. I picked one off Rocky’s face yesterday. It looked like eye gunk from the eye drops he has to get every day but it wasn’t. It was also dead. Don’t now why because they don’t get tick medicine and I hadn’t sprayed them. No mosquitoes, yet, though.

We had a gorgeous spring day on Friday but Saturday and most of today were cold and rainy. The sun peeked through the clouds for a minute earlier but it was raining at the time so it doesn’t count. Cold weather is back for this coming week.

The lawn on the west side of my house is turning into a chionodoxa field. There are clumps of them growing all over. I don’t mind. They are a lovely blue and nothing eats them. I’m wondering if I should put the anti-bunny shroud over the little quince at night. It’s got leaf buds all over it and the rabbits really like them.

Thumb are being held and fingers are being crossed for success in the job offer department.

    1. Hi Caryn!

Odd that it was dead! I’m not sure on a can injure them so they finally die but perhaps he scratched it to death? πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

We were supposed to have more sunshine yesterday than we did get and so far today no sunshine at all, still 50F though so not too bad. This week we’ll have every second day weather πŸ™‚ it mixes between sunshine and warmish one day to no sunshine and chilly the other but after that it will turn more towards warm and sunny but I’ll believe that if it happens πŸ™‚

I only have a few Chionodoxca I. the garden but lots outside πŸ™‚ I have the Scilla instead and they do no harm and are beautifully blue so no feeling of having to get rid of them πŸ™‚

I think I have a deer eating in my garden at nights but it’s picky so it only eats a few things πŸ™‚ So far it has stayed away from the quince πŸ™‚

      I got the job πŸ™‚

      1. Yay for getting the job!

There was some kind of heartworm pill I used to give the dogs years ago. There wasn’t anything in it that was supposed to kill other parasites but if I found ticks, they would be attached but not anywhere near full and they’d be dried up and dead. It was weird. They probably took that medication off the market because there was something in it that was bad for the dogs, too.

  2. Aren’t we grateful for the warmer weather? I’ve been doing yard cleanup and amending soil in the garden boxes.
Do folks hunt the wild hogs there? I have a few local farmers that have been offering ground wild boar in our CSA boxes (community supported agriculture).
I laughed when you told about taking a nap with restless pets wondering what you were up to β€” then immediately taking their own naps when you finally gave up on it! That sounds so familiar.
I’m thinking of you and sending best wishes for the job that best suits you.
Any business would be fortunate to have you.

    1. Hi Goodport!

Yes we are πŸ™‚ I still have to do the soil still. I wish I could empty my big compost from the bottom because there’s so much compost in it now that I think I won’t need to buy any soil this year. I did however fill it up so I need to leave it for a few weeks before I can empty it all. I do have two older composts but I can’t open one of them, it’s actually an old garbage bin in metal πŸ™‚ The other one is a home for a forest mouse family and I don’t know if they have younglings in it now.

Yes they do but not many enough I’m afraid. The farmer will put up a hunting tower there soon and I know a few that will start hunting there later on. I do like wild hog meat but it is nasty expensive I’m afraid. It must go through tests before it can be sold so we don’t die when eating it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I got the job so thanks πŸ™‚

  3. Christer, while I am not an expert on flower identification, those small blue flowers reminded me of ones we had in VA. They may be wild hyacinth, so please let me know if you learn the ID. When we were in Tuscany last year, boar meat was very popular and Patrick even tried boar ravioli which he liked very much. I wonder if the wild hogs are the same as boar.

    1. Hi Beatrice!

Unfortunately wild hyacinths aren’t hardy enough to live here, those blue flowers are instead Scilla sibirica, tough ones that spreads like wildfire and are seen as invasive but they are so wildly spread here now that it would be impossible to get rid of them πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I think boar and wild hog is the same thing, American English and British English. It is a very tasty meat but also very expensive. It must be tested before being allowed to be sold, they eat soil so they get many different parasites we humans can cope with.
