We Swedes are sort of obcessed by Disney today and it has been so for generations. Swedish Television (SWT), our Pbs, has since 1960 sent an old Disney program called The Wonderful World of Disney. 2020 it became the most viewed tv program ever in this country when almost half the population looked at it on Christmas eve. Back at the beginning anything coming from west of the Soviet Union was view as imperialistic and should be banned from the world π π π So this was the only time we ever had the chance to see anything Disney on tv, we only had Swedish Television in those days and no commercials (that I still love π )

Despite what all experts have said it is still just as popular and that’s of course because we brainwash the kids to watch it as well, even though they later refuse to see it they always come back when they have children so they too becomes brainwashed to see it. Disney now has its own streaming service and doesn’t sell their programs to other companies any more, except for this one and the SWT π but from what I’ve read the negotiations are hard every year. The risk for Disney being punished by the Swedes if they don’t sell this particular program to SWT is very big though, You don’t kill very popular traditions like that unpunished πΒ

The program is almost totally exactly the same, First we see when the elves make the presents up at the north pole, a film from the 1930’s I think and now days they’ve removed almost all racist parts π After that we see short parts from Cinderella (when the mice and birds sing and make her the dress. Snow white when she and the dwarfs are having a party singing and dancing. Chip and Dale when Mickey Mouse by accident brings them in when he has cut his christmas tree and Pluto fights with them.Β

Lady and the tramp when they are at the restaurant and Robin Hood stealing money from prince John and my favorite the Jungle Book when Baloo meets Mowgli for the first time plus one or two snippets from the latest films. However the most loved one is about Ferdinand the Bull. I think it was in the 80’s they announced that he would be replaced by the Ugly Duckling and all hell broke lose π π π It went as far as Swedish Television getting threats and they took is so seriously that the showed that film after the Disney program was over.Β We’ve never seen the Ugly Duckling after that π π π Also this program also decides when to eat and give out the present. We had the present before and ate after some could do the opposite but no one ever ate at 3 pm when Donald Duck was shown on tv π π π
This is what christmas is all about for a me π
I wish You all a Good Yule!

A Merry Yule to you, Christer!
The history of your Disney tradition made me laugh. People like what they like and get set in their ways. You canβt mess with tradition! Looks like Malkolm, Alma and Sarah are snuggled in for a long winterβs nap. Wishing you peace, joy, good health and prosperity. And that your plants are strong and growing well!

Hi Goodport!
We were really starved for Disney quality films over here, we did see a lot of eastern European cartoons for children but even if some actually were of good quality they never reached Disney hights π
Yes they are π I think that at the moment they all now snuggles in my bed π
I wish You the same π

This post made me laugh so hard all the way through. You really know your Disney characters! I remember watching The Wonderful World of Disney when I was a kid. I think it came on TV Sunday nights. As you said, Disney has now decided to sell us back all our wonderful memories by hoarding them on a streaming service.
What I miss is Disney’s fluid, lifelike animation. Cartoons today are so lazy. Characters barely move and the backgrounds are simple, as if it’s all done by children just learning to draw.
I hope you are having a nice Christmas Day. Here it’s quiet. Just me and my cats. I gave them a special breakfast (meaning, super-expensive cat food I don’t usually buy). It was tuna mousse pate, and I was very pleased that they all licked their plates clean rather than wasting any. They also have some treats in their stockings, but I’m pacing them on that because I don’t want everyone to end up with diarrhea from eating too much weird stuff.
Your posts and photos have been lovely in 2024, so thank you for sharing them, and God Yul (I’ve learned a little Norsk, but no Swedish!) to you and your furry companions.

Hi catsworking!
It’s so sad they do like that and I think that in the long run they’ll lose a lot by doing so. Too many streaming services that all cost lots of money and in the end most people will try and keep the bills low.
I fully agree with You about that! I guess it looks more like the real world where everyone is out on the net and do nothing else, they just sit around looking at their phones or tablets π π π and yes the drawing is crappy!
Yes we do have a really nice christmas day π and today Alma once again behaved really well on our walk, that is until a neighbor happened to walk in front of is in a field π π π
I wish You the same π (and Norwegian and Swedish is very close so, more or less like dialects of the same language π ).
